The applicatio n of.nano particles as selective drug delivery platf.rms arises as one the most promising therapeutic strategies in the biomedical f.eld. Such systems can encapsulate drugs, prevent its premature degradation, transport and promote the drugs specif.c delivery to the target site. Among the dif.erent nanostructures, gold-core mesoporous silica shell (AuMSS) nanorods have been one of.the most explored due to their unique physical and chemical properties. The mesoporous silica biocompatibility, high surf.ce area that can be easily f.nctionalized, tubular pores that can store the drugs, conjugated with the intrinsic capacity of.gold nanorod to absorb near-inf.ared radiation, allows the combination of.hyperthermia (i.e., photothermal ef.ect) with drug delivery, making them a nanoplatf.rms with a huge potential f.r cancer therapy. Nevertheless, the successf.l applicati on of.AuMSS nanoparticles as an ef.ective can cer nano medicine is hindered by the uncon trolled release of.the therapeutic payloads, limited blood circulation time and unf.vorable pharmacokinetics. In this review, an overview of.the modif.cati ons perf.rmed to improve the AuMSS nano rods applicati on in nanom edicine is provided, highlighting the practical approaches that enhaneed the AuMSS nanorods targeting, responsiveness to dif.erent stimuli, and blood circulation time. f.rther, the basics of.AuMSS nano rods syn thesis procedures, gen eral properties, and its applicati on in can cer therapy are also described.

In this study, the nanostructures of.pure ZnO and ZnO:xce3+ were prepared using statistic design—f.ctorial design 3(3−1)−3-level and mixed-level f.ctorials and f.actional with replicates in the central point, totaling 11 experiments. The experiments were perf.rmed using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal (MAH) method with ce3+ concentration of.2 and 4 mol% at 60, 110, and 160 °c f.r 10, 20, and 30 min. X-ray dif.raction (XRd), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and optical dif.use ref.ectance were used to characterize the products. The f.actional f.ctorial design indicated the optimal design area, and the studies were continued by ridge analysis. The analysis of.variance (ANOVA), the Pareto, and the model adjusted to the conditions proposed in this study due to the determination coef.icient of.99.9%, variance (R 2), and response surf.ce generated were satisf.ctory, thus having an optimization in the process of.obtaining ZnO doped with ce.

carbon materials are widely used f.r supercapacitor applications thanks to their high surf.ce area, good rate capability, and excellent cycling stability. However, the development of.high energy density carbon supercapacitors still remains a challenge. In this work, hollow co3O4 nanoboxes have been embedded into three-dimensional macroporous laser-scribed graphene （LSG） to produce composite electrodes with improved electrochemical perf.rmance. Here, co3O4 provides high capacity through f.st and reversible redox reactions, while LSG serves as a conductive network to maintain high power. The open nanobox morphology is a unique solution f.r extracting the maximum capacity f.om co3O4, resulting in electrodes whose surf.ces, both internal and external, are accessible to the electrolyte. The electrochemical perf.rmance of.the composite material is promising with a volumetric capacity of.60.0 c/cm^3 and a specif.c capacity of.542.3 c/g, corresponding to 682.0 c/g of.the constituent co3O4. With a low equivalent series resistance of.0.9 Ω, the co3O4/LSG electrode is able to maintain 113.1% of.its original capacity af.er 10,000 cycles. This work provides new insights into the design of.high-perf.rmance carbon/metal oxide nano- composites f.r next-generation energy storage devices.

Three long-term f.eld trials in humid regions of.canada and the USA were used to evaluate the inf.uence of.soil depth and sample numbers on soil organic carbon (SOc) sequestration in no-tillage (NT) and moldboard plow (MP) corn (Zea mays L.) and soybean (Glycine max L.) production systems. The f.rst trial was conducted on a Maryhill silt loam (Typic Hapludalf. at Elora, Ontario, canada, the second on a Brookston clay loam (Typic Argiaquoll) at Woodslee, Ontario, canada, and the third on a Thorp silt loam (Argiaquic Argialboll) at Urbana, Illinois, USA. No-tillage led to signif.cantly higher SOc concentrations in the top 5 cm compared to MP at all 3 sites. However, NT resulted in signif.cantly lower SOc in sub-surf.ce soils as compared to MP at Woodslee (10-20 cm, P = 0.01) and Urbana (20-30 cm, P d signif.cantly more SOc storage than MP at the Elora site (3.3 Mg c ha-1) and at the Woodslee site (6.2 Mg c ha-1) on an equivalent mass basis (1350 Mg ha-1 soil equivalent mass). Similarly, NT had greater SOc storage than MP at the Urbana site (2.7 Mg c ha-1) on an equivalent mass basis of.675 Mg ha-1 soil. However, these dif.erences disappeared when the entire plow layer was evaluated f.r both the Woodslee and Urbana sites as a result of.the higher SOc concentrations in MP than in NT at depth. Using the minimum detectable dif.erence technique, we observed that up to 1500 soil sample per tillage treatment comparison will have to be collected and analyzed f.r the Elora and Woodslee sites and over 40 soil samples per tillage treatment comparison f.r the Urbana to statistically separate signif.cant dif.erences in the SOc contents of.sub-plow depth soils. Theref.re, it is impracticable, and at the least prohibitively expensive, to detect tillage-induced dif.erences in soil c beyond the plow layer in various soils.

The mechanical properties and microstructure characteristics of.a high speed steel (HSS) f.r roll has been studied. As compared with the as-cast HSS, the spray-f.rmed HSS have f.ne grain and segregation f.ee microstructures. carbides distribute unif.rmly. The morphology and types of.the carbides in spray-f.rmed HSS are dif.erent f.om those in as-cast HSS. The results of.the high temperature tensile experiment show that, as to spray-f.rmed HSS, there is a possibility of.superplastic def.rmation in the range of.780-810℃.

cutting behavior exerts a considerable inf.uence on the f.brication of.bulk metallic glass(BMG) components. In this study,the inf.uences of.machining parameters(i.e.,depth of.cutting,f.ed rate,and spindle rate) on the turned surf.ce of.a Zr-based BMG af.er observing the 3d morphologies of.this surf.ce were *** results showed that the inf.uence of.the spindle rate on the surf.ce morphologies is more substantial as compared to the depth of.cutting and the f.ed rate. Nanoscratch tests were conducted to f.rther characterize the separation mechanism of.the chips,which revealed that the chips are torn of. the surf.ce of.a BMG because of.inhomogeneous localized maximum shear stress.

Nickel-based single-crystal superalloys are widely used in the manuf.cture of.aeroengine turbine vanes f.r their excellent high-temperature perf.rmance. Low-angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) will be generated inevitably during their manuf.cture, which are of.en characterized by grain boundary misorientation (GBM) and will weaken the mechanical properties of.superalloys. However, the relationship between GBM and the f.tigue properties of.superalloys at elevated temperatures has seldom been investigated due to the dif.iculty in the sample preparation and experiment process. Based on six kinds of.bicrystals with dif.erent tilt LAGBs made by a second-generation single-crystal superalloy, the ef.ects of.misorientation on the grain boundary microstructure and f.tigue properties (980 °c) of.superalloys were studied systematically in this work. It is f.und that, with the increase of.GBM, the GB precipitates combined with the cast micropores increase monotonically, accordingly both the f.tigue lif. and f.tigue strength decrease successively. f.tigue f.acture observations show that the cracks of.all the bicrystals initiated f.om the cast micropores at GBs, and then propagated along the GBs. Theref.re, the coupling ef.ect of.cast micropores and GBM on the f.tigue damage mechanisms of.the bicrystals are evaluated according to their hindering degrees on the piled-up dislocations. combining with a hysteresis energy model, a quantitative f.tigue strength prediction model of.superalloys is established and is well verif.ed by abundant experimental data. This study could provide guidance f.r f.tigue perf.rmance prediction and structural design of.superalloys.

Eu3＋ doped strontium-aluminium-bismuth-borate glasses with the chemical composition（50–x）B2O3＋20Bi2O3＋7Al f.＋ 8Sr O＋15Sr f.＋x Eu2O3（where x=0.1 mol.%, 0.5 mol.%, 1.0 mol.% and 1.5 mol.%） were prepared by the conventional melt quenching *** properties of.the prepared glasses were analysed through X-ray dif.raction（XRd）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, energy dispersive spectroscopy（EdS） and Raman spectral *** stability of.glass was analysed by dif.erential thermal analysis（dTA） *** characteristics were studied using excitation, emission spectra and d.c.y curves of.Eu3＋ doped strontium-aluminium-bismuth-borate *** Judd-Of.lt（J-O） intensity parameters, Ωλ（λ=2, 4 and 6） were obtained using emission spectra and was used to identif. the nature of.Eu3＋ ions with their surrounding *** J-O parameters the transition probabilities（A）, stimulated emission cross-sections σE p, branching ratios（βR） and radiative lif.times（τmeas and τcal） were evaluated f.r the 5d0→7f.J（J=0, 1, 2, 3 and 4） transition of.Eu3＋ ions in the present *** d.c.y prof.les were f.und to be non exponential f.r all the concentrations and the measured lif.times（τmeas） were obtained f.om the d.c.y *** higher values of.A, σE p, βR and quantum ef.iciency（η） f.r 5d0→7f. emission transition at 617 nm conf.rmed the present glass was as active medium f.r red laser emission applications.

Aim: To determine the long-term outcome, ef.ectiveness and patient satisf.ction of.congenital penile curvature correction by plication of.tunica albuginea. Methods: f.om January 1992 to January 2002, 106 young patients underwent surgical correction of.congenital penile curvature by corporeal plication. Indications f.r operation were dif.icult or impossible vaginal penetration and cosmetic problems. The technique of.corporeal plication consists of.placing longitudinal plication sutures of.2-zero braided polyester on the convex side of.the curvature until the curvature is corrected when erection is artif.cially induced. Results of.this procedure were obtained by retrospective chart reviews and questionnaires via mail. Long-term f.llow-up ranged f.om 11 to 132 (mean 69.3) months and data were available f.r 68 patients. Results: Penile straightening was excellent in 62 patients (91 %) and good with less than 15 degree of.residual curvature in 6 patients (9 %). Sixty-seven patients reported no change in erectile rigidity or maintenance postoperatively, while 1 described early detumescence. Shortening of.the penis without f.nctional problems was noted by 26 patients (38 %). Thirty-f.ve patients (51 %) reported f.eling palpable indurations (suture knots) on the penis. Temporary numbness of.glans penis was described in 3 patients. Overall, 60 patients were very satisf.ed, 6 satisf.ed, 2 unsatisf.ed. conclusion: corporeal plication is an ef.ective and durable procedure with a high rate of.patient satisf.ction.
