Instability following total hip arthroplasty(THA) is an unfortunately frequent and serious problem that requires thorough evaluation and preoperative planning before surgical intervention. Prevention through optimal index surgery is of great importance, as the management of an unstable THA is challenging even for an experienced joints surgeon. However, even after well-planned surgery, a significant incidence of recurrent instability still exists. Non-operative management is often successful if the components are well-fixed and correctly positioned in the absence of neurocognitive disorders. If conservative management fails, surgical options include revision of malpositioned components; exchange of modular components such as the femoral head and acetabular liner; bipolar arthroplasty; tripolar arthroplasty; use of a larger femoral head; use of a constrained liner; soft tissue reinforcement and advancement of the greater trochanter.

A series of tungsten promoted alumina supported nickel catalysts has been prepared for the carbon dioxide reforming of methane to synthesis gas. The catalysts have been characterized by means of XRD, TeM, and Laser Raman spectroscopy. It is shown that the addition of tungsten to the nickel catalyst can stabilize the catalyst and increase the resistance to carbon deposition. Adding a suitable amount of tungsten can also increase the catalyst activity to be close to that of supported noble metal catalysts. The carburisation of the tungsten modified nickel catalyst decreases the catalyst activity at lower reaction temperatures(effect on the catalyst performance at higher reaction temperatures. The alumina supported nickel catalyst modified by 0.67%(mass fraction) WO_3 has the equivalent equilibrium constant of the dry reforming reaction to that of alumina supported 5%(mass fraction) Ru at 873 K, and also has a lower activation energy for dry reforming than the latter.

Since the hallmark discovery of Aequorea victoria＇s Green Fluorescent Protein （GFP） and its adaptation for efficient use in plants, fluorescent protein tags marking expression profiles or genuine proteins of interest have been used to recognize plant tissues and cell types, to monitor dynamic cell fate selection processes, and to obtain cell type-specific transcriptomes. Fluorescent tagging enabled visualization in living tissues and the precise recordings of dy- namic expression pattern changes. The resulting accurate recording of cell fate acquisition kinetics in space and time has strongly stimulated mathematical modeling of self-organizing feedback mechanisms. In developmental studies, the use of fluorescent proteins has become critical, where morphological markers of tissues, cell types, or differentiation stages are either not known or not easily recognizable. In this review, we focus on the use of fluorescent markers to identify and illuminate otherwise invisible cell states in plant development.

A combinatorial library of twenty-three,phase pure,near-NMC111(LiNi_(0.33) Mn_(0.33)Co_(0,33)O_(2))composi-tions were synthesised and their electrochemical performance,was mapped(in lithium ion half-cells).each of the 23 compositions was made in series,using a two-step process of 1)a rapid initial contin-uous hydrothermal precipitation,followed by 2)solid state *** 23 lithiated NMC samples were then subjected to analytical methods including electron microscopy(selected samples),Powder X-ray Diffraction and electrochemical tests in half cell Li-ion configurations versus Li metal.A sample with a Ni:Mn:Co(NMC)ratio of 39:28:33,revealed a specific capacity of 150 mA h g^(-1) at a C/20 rate,which was 63 and 43% greater capacity than NMC111 and NMC433 samples produced in this work,*** sample with NMC ratio 47:25:28,showed the best capacity retention characteristics,retaining 70%of its C/20 capacity at 1C,after 40 *** analysis of all the samples by cyclic voltammetry and elec-trochemical impedance spectroscopy,allowed compositional mapping of diffusion ***,the mapping data revealed a gradual change of properties across compositional space,which has vali-dated our combinatorial approach and allowed identification of the optimum performing near-NMC111 cathode materials.

Single-nucleus RNA-sequencing technology has revolutionized understanding of nuanced changes in gene expression between cell types within ***,our understanding of regulatory RNAs,such as microRNAs(miRNAs),is limited through both single-cell and single-nucleus techniques due to the short length of miRNAs in the cytoplasm and the incomplete reference of longer primary miRNA(pri-miRNA)transcripts in the *** build a custom reference to align and count pri-miRNA sequences in singlenucleus *** young and aged subventricular zone(SVZ)nuclei,we show differential expression of pri-miRNAs targeting genes involved in neural stem cells(NSC)differentiation in the aged ***,using wild-type and 5XFAD mouse model cortex nuclei,to validate the use of primiReference,we find cell-type-specific expression of pri-miRNAs known to be involved in Alzheimer’s disease(AD).pri-miRNAs likely contribute to NSC dysregulation with age and AD *** is paramount in capturing a global profile of gene expression and regulation in single-nucleus data and can provide key insights into cell-type-specific expression of pri-miRNAs,paving the way for future studies of regulation and pathway *** looking at pri-miRNA abundance and transcriptional differences,regulation of gene expression by miRNAs in disease and aging can be further explored.

In a unified regenerative fuel cell(URFC)or reversible fuel cell,the oxygen bifunctional catalyst must switch reversibly between the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR),fuel cell mode,and the oxygen evolution reaction(OeR),electrolyzer ***,it is often unclear what effect alternating between ORR and OeR has on the electrochemical behavior and physiochemical properties of the ***,operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS)is utilized to monitor the continuous and dynamic evolution of the Co,Mn,and Fe oxidation states of perovskite catalysts Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Co_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)O_(3-δ)(BSCF)and La_(0.4)Sr_(0.6)MnO_(3-δ)(LSM),while the potential is oscillated between reducing and oxidizing potentials with cyclic *** results reveal the importance of investigating bifunctional catalysts by alternating between fuel cell and electrolyzer operation and highlight the limitations and challenges of bifunctional *** is shown that the requirements for ORR and OeR performance are divergent and that the oxidative potentials of OeR are detrimental to ORR *** findings are used to give guidelines for future bifunctional catalyst ***,it is demonstrated how sunlight can be used to reactivate the ORR activity of LSM after rigorous cycling.

Critical analysis of feeding jejunostomy following resection of upper gastrointestinal malignancies

AIM To assess nutritional recovery,particularly regarding feeding jejunostomy tube(FJT)utilization,following upper gastrointestinal resection for malignancy. MeTHODS A retrospective review was performed of a prospectively-maintained database of adult patients who underwent esophagectomy or gastrectomy(subtotal or total)for cancer with curative intent,from January 2001 to June 2014. Patient demographics,the approach to esophagectomy,the extent of gastrectomy,FJT placement and utilization at discharge,administration of parenteral nutrition(PN),and complications were evaluated. All patients were followed for at least ninety days or until *** The 287 patients underwent upper GI resection,comprised of 182 esophagectomy(n=107 transhiatal,58.7%; n=56 Ivor-Lewis,30.7%)and 105 gastrectomy [n=63 subtotal(SG),60.0%; n=42 total(TG),40.0%]. 181 of 182 esophagectomy patients underwent FJT,compared with 47 of 105 gastrectomy patients(99.5% vs 44.8%,P ergone TG(n=39,92.9% vs n=8 SG,12.9%,P edian length of stay was similar between esophagectomy and gastrectomy groups(14.7 d vs 17.1 d,P=0.076). Upon discharge,87 esophagectomy patients(48.1%)were taking enteral feeds,with 53(29.3%)fully and 34(18.8%)partially dependent. Meanwhile,20 of 39 TG patients(51.3%)were either fully(n=3,7.7%)or partially(n=17,43.6%)dependent on tube feeds,compared with 5 of 8 SG patients(10.6%),all of whom were partially dependent. Gastrectomy patients were significantly less likely to be fully dependent on tube feeds at discharge compared to esophagectomy patients(6.4% vs 29.3%,P=0.0006). PN was administered despite FJT placement more often following gastrectomy than esophagectomy(n=11,23.4% vs n=7,3.9%,P=0.0001). FJT-specific complications requiring reoperation within 30 d of resection occurred more commonly in the gastrectomy group(n=6),all after TG,compared to 1 esophagectomy patient(12.8% vs 0.6%,P=0.0003). Observations of wild chelonians in Indochina are uncommon with most records and specimens coming from the commercial wildlife trade. During the surveys of the Xe Sap National Protected Area in southern Laos between February and May 2012, four impressed tortoises, Manouria impressa(IUCN Red List: Vulnerable) were found in three separate field locations. There are few published observations of this species in the wild. We also present data on threats and local value of chelonians in the wildlife trade.
