Acousto-optically driven lensless single-shot ultrafast optical imaging

driven by many applications in a wide span of scientifc fields,a myriad of advanced ultrafast imaging techniques have emerged in the last decade,featuring record-high imaging speeds above a trllion-frame-per-second with long sequence *** bringing remarkable insights into various ultrafast phenomena,their application out of a laboratory environment is however limited in most cases,either by the cost,complexity of the operation or by heavy data *** then report a versatile single-shot imaging technique combining sequentially timed lloptical mapping photography(STAMP)with acousto-optics programmable dispersive fhItering(AOPdF)and digital in-line holography(dIH).On the one hand,a high degree of simplicity is reached through the AOPdF,which enables full control over the acquisition parameters via an electrically driven phase and amplitude spectro-temporal tailoring of the imaging ***,contrary to most single-shot techniques,the frame rate,exposure time,and frame intensities can be independently adjusted in a wide range of pulse durations and chirp values without resorting to complex shaping stages,making the system remarkably agile and *** the other hand,the use of dIH,which does not require any reference beam,allows to achieve an even higher technical simplicity by allowing its lensless operation but also for reconstructing the object on a wide depth of field,contrary to classical techniques that only provide images in a single *** imaging speed of the system as well as its flexibility are demonstrated by visualizing ultrashort events on both the picosecond and nanosecond *** virtues and limitations as welll as the potential improvements of this on-demand ultrafast imaging method are critically discussed.

Abstract We consider the polytope arising from a marked surface by flips of triangulations. d. d. Sleator, R. E. Tarjan, and W. P. Thurston [J. Amer. Math. Soc., 1988, 1(3): 647 681] studied the diameter of the associahedron, which is the polytope arising from a marked disc by flips of triangulations. They showed that every shortest path between two vertices in a face does not leave that face. We give a new method, which is different from the one used by V. disarlo and H. Parlier [arXiv: 1411.4285] to establish the same non-leaving-face property for all unpunctured marked surfaces.

Periodic energy decomposition analysis for electronic transport studies as a tool for atomic scale device manufacturing

Atomic scale manufacturing is a necessity of the future to develop atomic scale devices with high precision.A different perspective of the quantum realm,which includes the tunnelling effect,leakage current at the atomic-scale,Coulomb blockade and Kondo effect,is inevitable for the fabrication and hence,the mass production of these *** these atomic-scale device development,molecular level devices must be *** theoretical studies could be an aid towards the experimental *** transport studies are the basis to realise and interpret the problems happening at this minute *** these in mind,we present a periodic energy decomposition analysis(pEdA)of two potential candidates for moletronics:phthalocyanines and porphyrins,by placing them over gold substrate cleaved at the(111)plane to study the adsorption and interaction at the interface and then,to study their application as a channel between two electrodes,thereby,providing a link between pEdA and electronic transport *** provides information regarding the bond strength and the contribution of electrostatic energy,Pauli’s energy,orbital energy and the orbital *** this analysis with electronic transport studies can provide novel directions for atomic/close-toatomic-scale manufacturing(ACSM).Literature survey shows that this is the first work which establishes a link between pEdA and electronic transport studies and a detailed pEdA study on the above stated *** results show that among the molecules studied,porphyrins are more adsorbable over gold substrate and conducting across a molecular junction than phthalocyanines,even though both molecules show a similarity in adsorption and conduction when a terminal thiol linker is attached.A further observation establishes the importance of attractive terms,which includes interaction,orbital and electrostatic energies,in correlating the pEdA study with the transport *** progressing this re

Effects of a regenerating matrix on the survival of birds in tropical forest fragments

Background: Vast areas of lowland neotropical forest have regenerated after initially being cleared for agricultural purposes. The ecological value of regenerating second growth to forest-dwelling birds may largely depend on the age of the forest, associated vegetative structure, and when it is capable of sustaining avian demographics similar to those found in pristine ***: To determine the influence of second growth age on bird demography, we estimated the annual survival of six central Amazonian bird species residing in pristine forest, a single 100 and a single 10 ha forest fragment, taking into consideration age of the surrounding matrix(i.e. regenerating forest adjacent to each fragment) as an explanatory ***: Study species exhibited three responses: arboreal, flocking and ant-following insectivores(Willisornis poecilinotus, Thamnomanes ardesiacus and Pithys albifrons) showed declines in survival associated with fragmentation followed by an increase in survival after 5 years of matrix regeneration. Conversely, Percnostola rufifrons, a gap-specialist, showed elevated survival in response to fragmentation followed by a decline after 5 years of regeneration. Lastly, facultative flocking and frugivore species(Glyphorynchus spirurus and dixiphia pipra, respectively) showed no response to adjacent clearing and subsequent ***: Our results in association with previous studies confirm that the value of regenerating forest surrounding habitat patches is dependent on two factors: ecological guild of the species in question and second growth age. Given the rapid increase in survival following succession, we suggest that the ecological value of young tropical forest should not be based solely on a contemporary snapshot, but rather, on the future value of mature second growth as well.

Background:There is mounting evidence that regular physical activity is an important prerequisite for healthy cognitive ***,the finding that almost one-third of the adult population does not reach the recommended level of regular physical activity calls for further public health *** this context,digital and home-based physical training interventions might be a promising alternative to center-based intervention ***,this systematic review aimed to summarize the current state of the literature on the effects of digital and home-based physical training interventions on adult cognitive ***:In this pre-registered systematic review(PROSPERO;Id:CRd42022320031),5 electronic databases(PubMed,Web of Science,Psyclnfo,SPORTdiscus,and Cochrane Library)were searched by 2 independent researchers(FH and PT)to identify eligible studies investigating the effects of digital and home-based physical training interventions on cognitive performance in *** systematic literature search yielded 8258 records(extra17 records from other sources),of which 27 controlled trials were considered *** reviewers(FH and PT)independently extracted data and assessed the risk of bias using a modified version of the Tool for the assEssment of Study qualiTy and reporting in EXercise(TESTEX scale).Results:Of the 27 reviewed studies,15 reported positive effects on cognitive and motor-cognitive outcomes(i.e.,performance improvements in measures of executive functions,working memory,and choice stepping reaction test),and a considerable heterogeneity concerning study-related,population-related,and intervention-related characteristics was noticed.A more detailed analysis suggests that,in particular,interventions using online classes and technology-based exercise devices(i.e.,step-based exergames)can improve cognitive performance in healthy older *** one-half of the reviewed studies were rated as having a high risk of bias with respect

Ensemble and single particle studies of the excitation power density (P)-dependent upconversion luminescence (UCL) of core and core-shell β-NaYF_(4):Yb,Er upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) doped with 20% Yb^(3+) and 1% or 3% Er^(^(3+)) performed over a P regime of 6 orders of magnitude reveal an increasing contribution of the emission from high energy Er^(3+) levels at P > 1 kW/cm^(2). This changes the overall emission color from initially green over yellow to white. While initially the green and with increasing P the red emission dominate in ensemble measurements at P dies results in a multitude of emission bands in the ultraviolet/visible/near infrared (UV/vis/NIR) accompanied by a decreased contribution of the red luminescence. Based upon a thorough analysis of the P-dependence of UCL, the emission bands activated at high P were grouped and assigned to 2–3, 3–4, and 4 photonic processes involving energy transfer (ET), excited-state absorption (ESA), cross-relaxation (CR), back energy transfer (BET), and non-radiative relaxation processes (nRP). This underlines the P-tunability of UCNP brightness and color and highlights the potential of P-dependent measurements for mechanistic studies required to manifest the population pathways of the different Er^(3+) levels.

We present some ideas based on structural and functional properties of plants and animals that led to the development of two types ofbiomimetic cable entry systems. Those systems have been realized on the level of functional demonstrators.

Political Implications of Emergency Management

This paper will review three broad types of political implications of emergency management, since historically emergency management was considered only a function of law enforcement and fire departments, with the support in the event of a major catastrophe from public health and civil defense organizations. The issue is not whether governments will be required to respond to emergencies but rather when and how frequently. The time to think about emergencies is before they happen. despite some significant weakness in the overall approach, political implications offer many benefits and provide various options for CdCs （community development corporations） to get involved in disaster recovery and emergency management. Based upon a generally positive evaluation, the paper concludes that emergency management must become a central activity, whether at the federal, state, or local or as an intergovernmental activity. Hopefully for the future the government does not have to wait for a disaster to strike for one to put a policy into place, since they have had several to occur over decades. The government should be ready to take on any disaster if it occurs with the following policies and procedures that are in place.

Institutionalizing Political Monitoring as Part of Policy design

Building upon previous work （Lancaster, 2014） which defined and theoretically situated political monitoring as an analytical concept, this essay first reiterates the importance of political monitoring to the study of institutions of governance and related policy design. The conceptualization of political monitoring builds upon the psychological notion that people change their behavior if they believe someone is watching them. Second, it discusses theoretically how and why policy design might incorporate political monitoring in order to produce specific outcomes. Third, it presents empirical evidence from several illustrative examples to demonstrate how the institutionalization of political monitoring affects policy outcomes.
