Acute Bronchiolitis about 535 Cases at Zinder National Hospital, Niger

Introduction: Lower respiratory infections in general, and acute bronchiolitis in particular, represent a major cause of morbidity in children in Niger. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic features of acute bronchiolitis in infants in the Pediatrics A department of the National Hospital in Zinder. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study with prospective data collection conducted from April 1 to May 31, 2024. All infants aged 0 to 24 months hospitalized with acute bronchiolitis in the pediatric ward A of Zinder National Hospital were included in the study. Epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects were the characteristics studied. Data analysis was performed using Epi info 7 software. Results: During the study period, acute bronchiolitis accounted for 51% of hospitalizations, and infants aged 3 - 11 months were the most affected (52.90%). The sex ratio was 1.6. The average age of patients was 10.40 ± 6.91 months, with extremes of 1 and 24 months. 98.50% of patients came from urban areas, and the socioeconomic level of families was average in 47.49% of cases. Mixed breastfeeding was practiced in 59.63% of cases. Average hospital admission time was 4.22 days. The main clinical signs were cough (43.18%), rhinorrhea (70.85%), ronchi (35.33%), crepitating rales (26.54%), sibilant rales (24.11%), signs of struggle (14.02%) and polypnea (70.85%). Paraclinical findings included chest distension, hyperleukocytosis and anemia, with 47.48%, 55.14% and 78.31% respectively. Therapeutically, nebulization was used in 93.08% of cases, respiratory physiotherapy (41.34%), corticosteroid therapy (34.08%), antibiotic therapy (21.50%), oxygen therapy (20.11%) and antipyretics (4.68%) were prescribed. Progression was favorable in 93.08% of patients, with a case-fatality rate of 1.12%. Conclusion: With its high frequency, acute bronchiolitis is a public health problem. Developing Relational Empathy in Virtual Ethnographic Intercultural Teaching

Conceptualizations of empathy have been most fully developed in a variety of fields in recent years. Many approaches to empathy dwell on the cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects, the intra-psychic processes that cause one to feel emotions more like those of another, rather than the interpersonal functions of empathy, which may be influenced by the variables during the communication process. Therefore, this study designed and implemented a virtual ethnographic intercultural project between Chinese and American university students with WeChat as the main social medium. The whole process included three phases: exploring the unique cultural experiences of Chinese and American students, seeking an empathy based on commonality and seeking a relational empathy, a form of harmonization and integration through interactive and continuous intercultural dialogues. During the process, the method of discourse-centered online ethnography (DCOE) was employed, which involved systematic observation and interaction with WeChat users. We used the collective data to analyze how relational empathy was developed through understanding cultural differences, seeking similarities, and creating a third culture by engaging students in a substantial and dynamic natural and interactive setting. The study shows that the most challenging process to nurture relational empathy is to move from Phases One and Two to Phase Three, during which, some strategies to build relational empathy need to be taught and practiced in a specific cultural setting. In conclusion, virtual ethnographic intercultural teaching is an effective approach to offer students a long-term intercultural dialogue and insight into developing shared meaning, or dynamic relational empathy with culturally different others.

Magnetohydrostatic modeling of the solar atmosphere

Understanding structures and evolutions of the magnetic fields and plasma in multiple layers on the Sun is very important. A force-free magnetic field which is an accurate approximation of the solar corona due to the low plasma β has been widely studied and used to model the coronal magnetic structure. While the force-freeness assumption is well satisfied in the solar corona, the lower atmosphere is not force-free given the high plasma β. Therefore, a magnetohydrostatic(MHS) equilibrium which takes into account plasma forces, such as pressure gradient and gravitational force, is considered to be more appropriate to describe the lower atmosphere. This paper reviews both analytical and numerical extrapolation methods based on the MHS assumption for calculating the magnetic fields and plasma in the solar atmosphere from measured magnetograms.

Thermal Diffusivity Measurement of Glass at High Temperature by Using Flash Method

A measurement of the thermal diffusivity of a semi-transparent material (glass) by means of the 'Flash Method' is investigated in the present work. By taking into account the heat losses on the two faces of the sample, and using a new experimental technique design, an improvement of the determination of the thermal diffusivity of the semi-transparent material (glass) at high temperature is realized. The experimental design presented here is an original technical concept that enables a significant reduction in heat loss during the experiments. A very simple model based on the quadrupole method is used to theoretically determine the thermal diffusivity of the semi-transparent material by taking into account both conduction and radiation. Theoretical results clarify the effect of the absorption coefficient and the thickness of the sample on the heat transfer in the semi-transparent medium.
