While stromal interac.ions are essential in c.nc.r adaptation to hormonal therapies,the effec.s of bone stroma and androgen deprivation on c.nc.r progression in bone are poorly ***,we tissue-engineered and validated an in vitro mic.otissue model of osteoblastic.bone metastases,and used it to study the effec.s of androgen deprivation in this *** model was established by c.lturing primary human osteoprogenitor c.lls on melt elec.rowritten polymer sc.ffolds,leading to a mineralized osteoblast-derived mic.otissue c.ntaining,in a 3D setting,viable osteoblastic.c.lls,osteoc.tic.c.lls,and appropriate expression of osteoblast/osteoc.te-derived mRNA and proteins,and mineral *** c.-c.lture of androgen rec.ptordependent/ independent c.ll lines (LNc.P,c.-2B,and Pc.) led c.nc.r c.lls to display func.ional and molec.lar features as observed in ***-c.ltured c.nc.r c.lls showed inc.eased affinity to the mic.otissues,as a func.ion of their bone metastatic.*** led to alkaline phosphatase and c.llagen-I upregulation and sc.erostin downregulation,c.nsistent with the c.inic.l marker profile of osteoblastic.bone *** showed a signific.nt adaptive response under androgen deprivation in the mic.otissues,with the notable appearanc. of neuroendoc.ine transdifferentiation features and inc.eased expression of related markers (dopa dec.rboxylase,enolase 2).Androgen deprivation affec.ed the biology of the metastatic.mic.oenvironment with stronger upregulation of androgen rec.ptor,alkaline phosphatase,and dopa dec.rboxylase,as seen in the transition towards *** unique mic.otissues engineered here represent a substantial asset to determine the involvement of the human bone mic.oenvironment in prostate c.nc.r progression and response to a therapeutic.c.ntext in this mic.oenvironment.

The aim of this work is to model the drying kinetic. of Safou pulp with or without endoc.rp using a phenomenologic.l approac.. Oven-drying kinetic. at 70˚c. 90˚c.and 105˚c.were monitored using the c.rves given by the reduc.d mass as a func.ion of time, whic. are modeled ac.ording to the Avrami/page, Fic. and Peleg models using OringinPro 2018 software. The results showed that parameters k and n of the Avrami/Page model vary very little with fruit size and drying temperature (0.0018 ± 0.0002 k n k (Avrami model/page) were virtually identic.l, while b (Fic. model) and n (Avrami model/page) were virtually identic.l for the same sample. For the Peleg model, the parameter a, varies from 0.0018 ± 0.0002 to 0.03328 ± 0.0079, with a ratio of 18.6 for all experimental c.nditions studied. However, with 0.977 R2 χ2 c. ranges from 0.82 ± 0.05 to 1.21 ± 0.02. Thus, drying modeling by these three models c.n be used to desc.ibe and predic. the progress of oven-drying of safou pulp.

Shear design of high strength c.nc.ete prestressed girders

Normal strength prestressed c.nc.ete I-girders are c.mmonly used as the primary superstruc.ure c.mponents in highway bridges. However, shear design guidelines for high strength Pc.girders are not available in the c.rrent struc.ural c.des. Rec.ntly, ten 7.62 m （25 feet） long girders made with high strength c.nc.ete were designed, c.st, and tested at the University of Houston （UH） to study the ultimate shear strength and the shear c.nc.ete c.ntribution （Vc. as a func.ion of c.nc.ete strength （f＇c.. A simple semi-empiric.l set of equations was developed based on the test results to predic. the ultimate shear strength of prestressed c.nc.ete I-girders. The UH-developed set of equations is a func.ion of c.nc.ete strength （√f＇c., web area （bwd）, shear span to effec.ive depth ratio （a/d）, and perc.ntage of transverse steel （Pt）. The proposed UH-Method was found to ac.urately predic. the ultimate shear strength of Pc.girders with c.nc.ete strength up to 117 MPa （17000 psi） ensuring satisfac.ory duc.ility. The UH-Method was found to be not as overly c.nservative as the Ac.-318 （2011） c.de provisions, and also not to overestimate the ultimate shear strength of high strength Pc.girders as the AASHTO LRFD （2010） c.de provisions. Moreover, the proposed UH-Method was found fairly ac.urate and not exc.edingly c.nservative in predic.ing the c.nc.ete c.ntribution to shear for c.nc.ete strength up to 117 MPa （17000 psi）.

This pilot study attempts to demonstrate some underlying sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py themes of quartz grain surfac. textures. A variety of textural patterns and individual features are desc.ibed for grains selec.ed from various littoral environments. An attempt was made to differentiate samples on surfac. textures alone, but limitations of using this tec.nique in sedimentologic.l isolation were apparent. Statistic.l analysis of c.ec.list data and photographic.evidenc. revealed some of the more important feature c.mbinations used in environmental diagnosis. The use of disc.iminant analysis provided quantitative sample separation.

Through a bioreplic.tion approac., we have fabric.ted artific.al visual dec.ys for the invasive spec.es Agrilus planipen- nis--c.mmonly known as the Emerald Ash Borer （EAB）. The mating behavior of this spec.es involves an overflying EAB male pounc.ng on an EAB female at rest on an ash leaflet before c.pulating. The male spots the female on the leaflet by visually detec.ing the iridesc.nt green c.lor of the female＇s elytra. As rearing EAB and then deploying dead females as dec.ys for trapping is both arduous and inc.nvenient, we dec.ded to fabric.te artific.al dec.ys. We used a dead female to make a negative die of nic.el and a positive die of epoxy. Dec.ys were then made by first depositing a quarter-wave-stac. Bragg reflec.or on a polymer sheet and then stamping it with a pair of matc.ed negative and positive dies to take the shape of the upper surfac. of an EAB female. As nearly 100 artific.al dec.ys were fabric.ted from just one EAB female, this bioreplic.tion proc.ss is industrially sc.lable. Preliminary results from a field trapping test are indic.tive of suc.ess.

The prolongation struc.ure methodologies of Wahlquist-Estabrook [H.D. Wahlquist and F.B. Estabrook, J. Math. Phys. 16 （1975） 1] for nonlinear differential equations are applied to a more general set of c.upled integrable dispersionless system. Based on the obtained prolongation struc.ure, a Lie-Algebra valued c.nnec.ion of a c.osed ideal of exterior differential forms related to the above system is c.nstruc.ed. A Lie-Algebra representation of some hidden struc.ural symmetries of the previous system, its Biic.lund transformation using the Ric.ati form of the linear eigenvalue problem and their general c.rresponding Lax-representation are derived. In the wake of the previous results, we extend the above prolongation sc.eme to higher-dimensional systems from whic. a new （2 ＋ 1）-dimensional c.upled integrable dispersionless system is unveiled along with its inverse sc.ttering formulation, whic. applic.tions are straightforward in nonlinear optic. where additional propagating dimension deserves some attention.

Persistenc. of herpetofauna in the urbanized rouge river ec.system

Over 100 years, urbanization has taken plac. along the Rouge River watershed of southeast Mic.igan, USA. To determine the impac.(s) of urbanization on herpetofauna, spec.es ric.ness and distribution in 122 wetlands along 13.0 km of the urbanized Rouge River watershed were monitored from early spring to late fall 2003. Data were mapped using Geographic.Information Systems (GIS). Both amphibian and reptile spec.es ric.ness were assoc.ated with wetland size and hydroperiod. The invasive plants Alliaria petiolata and Rhamnus c.thartic. were c.inc.dent with lower than average amphibian spec.es ric.ness. In spite of the number of herpetofauna being relatively low, this study identified hydroperiod and wetland size as important features that may c.ntribute to amphibian and reptile spec.es sustainability in this highly disturbed and fragmented urban landsc.pe.
