Surgical apgar score predicts early complication in transfemoral amputees:Retrospective study of 170 major amputations

AIM To assess whether the surgical apgar score(SAS) is a prognostic tool capable of identifying patients at risk of major complications following lower extremity amputations *** This was a single-center,retrospective observational cohort study conducted between January 2013 and April 2015. All patients who had either a primary transtibial amputation(TTA) or transfemoral amputation(TFA) conducted at our institution during the study period were assessed for inclusion. All TTA patients underwent a standardized one-stage operative procedure(ad modum Persson amputation) performed approximately 10 cm below the knee joint. All TTA procedures were performedwith sagittal flaps. TFA procedures were performed in one stage with amputation approximately 10 cm above the knee joint,performed with anterior/posterior flaps. Trained residents or senior consultants performed the surgical procedures. The SAS is based on intraoperative heart rate,blood pressure and blood loss. Intraoperative parameters of interest were collected by revising electronic health records. The first author of this study calculated the SAS. Data regarding major complications were not revealed to the author until after the calculation of SAS. The SAS results were arranged into four groups(SAS 0-4,SAS 5-6,SAS 7-8 and SAS 9-10). The cohort was then divided into two groups representing low-risk(SAS ≥ 7) and highrisk patients(SAS blished threshold. The outcome of interest was the occurrence of major complications and death within 30-d of *** A logistic regression model with SAS 9-10 as a reference showed a significant linear association between lower SAS and more postoperative complications [all patients: OR = 2.00(1.33-3.03),P = 0.001]. Post-processing of biochars to enhance plant growth responses:a review and meta-analysis

A number of processes for post-production treatment of“raw”biochars,including leaching,aeration,grinding or sieving to reduce particle size,and chemical or steam activation,have been suggested as means to enhance biochar effectiveness in agriculture,forestry,and environmental ***,I review studies on post-production processing methods and their effects on biochar physio-chemical properties and present a meta-analysis of plant growth and yield responses to post-processed vs.“raw”*** from 23 studies provide a total of 112 comparisons of responses to processed *** biochars,and 103 comparisons allowing assessment of effects relative to biochar particle size;additional 8 published studies involving 32 comparisons provide data on effects of biochar ***,post-processed biochars resulted in significantly increased average plant growth responses 14%above those observed with unprocessed *** overall effect was driven by plant growth responses to reduced biochar particle size,and heating/aeration *** assessment of biochar effects by particle size indicates a peak at a particle size of 0.5-1.0 *** leachate treatments showed very high heterogeneity among studies and no average growth benefit.I conclude that physiochemical post-processing of biochar offers substantial additional agronomic benefits compared to the use of unprocessed *** research on post-production treatments effects will be important for biochar utilization to maximize benefits to carbon sequestration and system productivity in agriculture,forestry,and environmental restoration.

Nature-inspired hybrid deep learning for race detection by face shape features

Purpose-The humans are gifted with the potential of recognizing others by their uniqueness,in addition with more other demographic characteristics such as ethnicity(or race),gender and age,*** the decades,a vast count of researchers had undergone in the field of psychological,biological and cognitive sciences to explore how the human brain characterizes,perceives and memorizes ***,certain computational advancements have been developed to accomplish several insights into this ***/methodology/approach-This paper intends to propose a new race detection model using face shape *** proposed model includes two key phases,namely.(a)feature extraction(b)*** feature extraction is the initial stage,where the face color and shape based features get ***,maximally stable extremal regions(MSER)and speeded-up robust transform(SURF)are extracted under shape features and dense color feature are extracted as color ***,the extracted features are huge in dimensions;they are alleviated under principle component analysis(PCA)approach,which is the strongest model for solving“curse of dimensionality”.Then,the dimensional reduced features are subjected to deep belief neural network(DbN),where the race gets ***,to make the proposed framework more effective with respect to prediction,the weight of DbNis fine tuned with a new hybrid algorithm referred as lion mutated and updated dragon algorithm(LMUDA),which is the conceptual hybridization of lion algorithm(LA)and dragonfly algorithm(DA).Findings-The performance of proposed work is compared over other state-of-the-art models in terms of accuracy and error ***,LMUDA attains high accuracy at 100th iteration with 90%of training,which is 11.1,8.8,5.5 and 3.3%better than the performance when learning percentage(LP)550%,60%,70%,and 80%,*** particularly,the performance of proposed DbNþLMUDAis 22.2,12.5 and 33.3%better than the trad

Influence of groundwater depth on species composition and community structure in the transition zone of Cele oasis

The paper analyzes the hypothesis that the distribution of dominant plant species and characteristics of plant communities are related to groundwater depth. The results showed that variations of groundwater depth impacted distributions and characteristics of dominant plant communities. However, besides groundwater depth, the community composition and species diversity were also influenced by physiognomy of the habitat. based on the similarity coefficient, the differences between dominant plant communities were significant at different groundwater depths. Compared with other results relating to desert vegetation and groundwater depth, variations of community distribution were similar at the large spatial scale. However, in this extremely arid region, there were significant differences in community type and community succession when compared with other arid regions, especially in relationship to deep groundwater depth. With groundwater depth from deep to shallow, communities transformed with the sequence of Alhagi communities, Tamarix spp. communities, Populus communities, Phragmites communities, and Sophora communities. At groundwater depth of less than 6.0 m, the community type and composition changed, and the species diversity increased. Among these dominant species, Tamarix exhibited the biggest efficiency in resource utilization according to niche breadth, which means it possessed the best adaptability to environmental conditions at the oasis margins.

In this report,a charge preserving numerical resolution of the 1D VlasovAmp`ere equation is achieved,with a forward Semi-Lagrangian method introduced in[10].The Vlasov equation belongs to the kinetic way of simulating plasmas evolution,and is coupled with the Poisson’s equation,or equivalently under charge conservation,the Amp`ere’s one,which self-consistently rules the electric field *** order to ensure having proper physical solutions,it is necessary that the scheme preserves charge numerically.b-spline deposition will be used for the interpolation *** solving of the characteristics will be made with a Runge-Kutta 2 method and with a Cauchy-Kovalevsky procedure.

Concealed Integrity Monitoring for Wireless Sensor Networks

Nowadays, sensor networks are widely installed around the world. Typical sensors provide data for healthcare, energy management, environmental monitoring, etc. In the future sensors will become a part of critical infrastructures. In such a scenario the network operator has to monitor the integrity of the network devices, otherwise the trustworthiness of the whole system is questionable. The problem is that every integrity protocol needs a secure channel between the devices. Therefore, we will introduce a covert channel for hidden transportation of integrity monitoring messages. The covert channel enables us to hide integrity check messages embedded into regular traffic without giving potential attackers a hint on the used integrity protocol.

Optical parameters induced by phase transformation in RF magnetron sputtered TiO2 nanostructured thin films

Pure TiO2 thin films were deposited onto quartz substrates using a ceramic TiO2 target at an elevated substrate temperature of 573 K by RF magnetron sputtering, and an analysis of structural, optical and photoluminescence characteristics of the films upon phase transformation is reported in this paper. Structural investigations using X-ray diffraction revealed that the as-deposited film was amorphous in nature. Thermal annealing for 2 h at 873 K in air resulted in the formation of anatase phase, and a phase transformation to rutile was observed at 1073 *** increase in grain size and an improvement in crystallinity were also observed on annealing. Rod- like rutile crystallites were observed in the SEM images of the film annealed at 1273 K. As-deposited films and films annealed up to 1073 K were highly transparent in the visible region with a transparency 480%. Optical band gap of the films decreased upon thermal annealing which is attributed to phase transformation from amorphous to anatase and then to rutile. Optical parameters such as refractive index, optical conductivity and optical dielectric constant increased with increase in annealing temperature. Since rutile is the optically active phase, the superior refractive index of the film annealed at 1073 K along with its high transparency in visible region suggests the application of this film in antireflective coatings. Photoluminescence emission of maximum intensity was observed for the film annealed at 873 K, which exhibits anatase phase. Intense blue emission observed in this film makes it suitable for use in optoelectronic display devices.

From landrace to modern hybrid broccoli:the genomic and morphological domestication syndrome within a diverse *** collection

Worldwide,broccoli(brassica oleracea ***)is among the most economically important,nutritionally rich,and widely-grown vegetable *** explore the genomic basis of the dramatic changes in broccoli morphology in the last century,we evaluated 109 broccoli or broccoli/cauliflower intermediates for 24 horticultural ***-bysequencing markers were used to determine four subpopulations within italica:Calabrese broccoli landraces and hybrids,sprouting broccoli,and violet cauliflower,and to evaluate between and within group relatedness and *** overall horticultural quality and harvest index of improved hybrid broccoli germplasm has increased by year of cultivar release,this improvement has been accompanied by a considerable reduction in allelic diversity when compared to the larger pool of *** landraces are the most likely founding source of modern broccoli hybrids,and within these modern hybrids,we identified 13 reduction-in-diversity genomic regions,53 selective sweeps,and 30(>1 Mbp)runs of *** accessions collected in southern Italy contained 4.8-fold greater unique alleles per accessions compared to modern hybrids and provide a valuable resource in subsequent improvement *** work broadens the understanding of broccoli germplasm,informs conservation efforts,and enables breeding for complex quality traits and regionally adapted cultivars.
