Effect of microencapsulated watermelon(Citrullus lanatus)intake on plasma amino acids and glycemic response in healthy adults

Watermelon is an L-citrulline-rich fruit that has been used as a supplement to increase L-arginine in plasma,which in turn plays a critical role in the synthesis of nitric oxide,a molecule that regulates vascular *** rind,similar to its pulp,presents a high L-citrulline content,yet a lower concentration of sugar,which would be more convenient for individuals who need to refrain from excessive sugar ingestion(i.e.,diabetics and obese individuals).Further,ingestion of watermelon rind can be a sustainable alternative to increase plasma L-arginine,given that rind of fruits is commonly ***,we evaluated the effect of ingestion of a product derived from watermelon rind and pulp(microencapsulation in spray drier)on plasma amino acids(L-citrulline,L-arginine and L-ornithine),glucose,and *** participants(28.36±5.70 years)were enrolled in a single blind,cross-over and randomized *** ingested microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp(containing 4 g of L-citrulline)plasma amino acids,glucose,and insulin were evaluated before and 30,60,90 and 120 min after *** was observed that both microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp increased L-citrulline through 120 min and microencapsulated watermelon rind significantly increased L-arginine at 30 *** addition,microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp similarly increased plasma glucose and insulin *** conclusion,these findings suggest that both microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp are effective to increase plasma L-citrulline and microencapsulated watermelon rind effectively increases plasma *** addition,rind and pulp promote similar changes on plasma glucose and insulin.

Actinic prurigo is a photodermatosis that can affect the skin, conjunctiva and lips. It is caused by an abnormal reaction to sunlight and is more common in high-altitude living people, mainly in indigenous descendants. The diagnosis of actinic prurigo can be challenging, mainly when lip lesions are the only manifestation, which is not a common clinical presentation. The aim of this article is to report two cases of actinic prurigo showing only lip lesions. The patients were Afro-American and were unaware of possible Indian ancestry. Clinical exam, photographs, videoroscopy examination and biopsy were performed, and the diagnosis of actinic prurigo was established. Topical corticosteroid and lip balm with ultraviolet protection were prescribed with excellent results. The relevance of this report is to show that although some patients may not demonstrate the classical clinical presentation of actinic prurigo, the associated clinical and histological exams are determinants for the correct diagnosis and successful treatment of this disease.

Objective: To identify the main chemical classes of compounds from aqueous extract of Enterolobium contortisiliquum(E. contortisiliquum) seed bark and to evaluate its antibacterial activity, as well as its potential to increase the activity of antibiotics against strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia ***: Different classes of compounds in the aqueous extract of E. contortisiliquum were evaluated based on the visual changes in the coloration and the formation of precipitate after the addition of specific reagents. The antibacterial activity of the extract and its potential to increase of antibiotic activity of antibiotics drugs, gentamicin and norfloxacin was determined by using the microdilution ***: Our results demonstrated that the following secondary metabolites were presented in E. contortisiliquum seed bark: flavones, flavonols, xanthones, flavononols,chalcones, aurones, flavones and catechins. The extract itself had very low antibacterial activity against all bacterial strains tested(MIC ≥ 1024 μg/m L), but there was an increase in the antibiotic activity of gentamicin and norfloxacin when combined in the subinhibitory concentration(i.e., MIC/8).Conclusions: Our data suggests that E. contortisiliquum seed bark may be an alternative source for new drugs with the potential to increase antibiotic activity against different strains of bacteria.

In a globalized world, it is increasingly necessary to study the regional and local identities in order to promote their recovery and educating citizens active in all spatial scales. This study conducts a discussion where approaches to memory with spatial representations made by elementary school students in the city of Jaguariaiva, Paranfi, Brazil. Cultural identities are treated as meaning production instance about the living spaces. The relations between formal education, especially the curriculum selected by school geography, and the knowledge of lived experience, can contribute to the study of the references and spatial horizons of residents of urban and rural regions. This perspective is proposed as discussion that aims to contribute to the advancement of reflections on the relationship between school mapping and the production of sense of belonging to different locations.

Operational modal analysis is a non-destructive structural investigation that considers only the loads resulting from service *** approach allows the measurement of vibrations on a given structure with no need to interrupt its *** present work aims to develop a numerical model to represent the global structural behavior of a vessel breasting dolphin using a technique that is simple and cheap in order to obtain a fast answer about the stiffness of a pier after the collision of ships with capacity up to 400,000 *** determine the modes of vibration,one accelerometer was installed on the breasting dolphin located on the pier and a frequency domain technic was conducted over recorded data to obtain modal parameters of the *** situ measurements were compared to data from a finite element model based on the original structural design in order to adapt the model to accurately represent the actual behavior of the *** allowed a reliable structural analysis that accounted for existing structural damage and *** results of the experiment presented herein are the numerical characterization of the structure,along with the structural analysis to assess the degree of damage currently observed on the *** is noted that the dolphin subjected to ship impacts presents a reduction in stiffness of approximately10%and its global damage level can be monitored from now after new accidents.

This work presents an investigation of solvent extraction parameters in order to obtain high purity cerium from a mixture containing other rare earths elements, as an alternative to oxidation and selective precipitation or dissolution. The study was carried out using a sample of sulfuric liquor obtained from the leaching of monazite rich in light rare earth elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd) provided by INB (Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil S.A.). Experiments were carried out in chloridric, nitric and sulfuric media. The nitric and hydrochloric solutions were prepared by precipitation of the REE from the sulfuric liquor as rare earths oxalate, calcining the precipitate and dissolving it with nitric or hydrochloric acid. The separation of cerium was investigated in its trivalent and tetravalent forms. The parameters investigated were: type and concentration of extractant, type and amount of the oxidizing agent, liquor acidity, and volumetric ratio between organic and aqueous phases. The preference of the organic phase to extract cerium in its oxidized form (IV) over the other rare earths elements was confirmed, allowing the obtainment of a high purity cerium solution. The best results were achieved in nitric medium, with cerium in its tetravalent form, using cationic extractants (P507 or D2EHPA) and a mixture of potassium persulfate and silver chloride as oxidizing agents, yielding over 99% of cerium extraction with over 99% of purity.

The frost growth on cold surfaces in evaporators is an undesirable phenomenon which becomes a problem for the thermal efficiency of the refrigeration systems because the ice layer acts as a thermal insulation,drastically reducing the rate of heat transfer in the *** accumulation implies an increase in energy demand and a decrease in the performance of various components involved in the refrigeration process,reducing its efficiency and making it necessary to periodically remove the frost,resulting in expenses for the defrost *** the present work,a numerical-experimental analysis was performed in order to understand the formation process of porous ice in flat plates with different surface treatments and *** understanding is of utmost importance to minimize the formation of porous ice on cold surfaces and improve equipment efficiency and *** this context,a low-cost experimental apparatus was developed,enabling an experimental analysis of the phenomenon under *** environmental conditions evaluated are the temperature of the cold surface,roomtemperature,humidity,and air *** material of the surfaces under study are aluminum,copper,and brass with different surface finishes,designated as smooth,grooved(hydrophilic),and varnished(hydrophobic).The numerical-experimental analysis demonstrates measurements and simulations of the thickness,surface temperature,and growth rate of the porous ice layer as a function of the elapsed *** numerical results were in good agreement with the experimental results,indicating that the varnished surface,with hydrophobic characteristics,presents greater difficulty in providing the ***,the results showed that application of a coating allowed a significant reduction on the frost formation process contributing to the improvement of thermal efficiency and performance of refrigeration systems.
