Carboxymethyl starch cross-linked by electron beam radiation in presence of acrylic acid sensitizer

Carboxymethyl starch (CMS) can be cross-linked by electron beam radiation to form a biocompatible and environment-friendly hydrogel at a high absorbed dose and a condensed CMS concentration. Acrylic acid (AAc) can be used as a sensitizer in order to reduce the absorbed doses to an acceptable certain level. At an absorbed dose of 3-4 kGy, the gel content of crosslinked CMS can be obtained about 50% with 5% (w/w) AAc concentration used. The compressive strength of CMS samples increased with increasing their cross-linked densities due to raising absorbed doses. The swelling ratio of cross-linked CMS was also attainable at a maximum of 50 times in the distilled water. The enzymatic degradation of cross-linked CMS was carried out in acetate buffer pH 4.6 with 0.1% α-amylase enzymatic solution incubated at 40°C for 6 h. The crosslinked CMS samples were degraded slower than uncrosslinked CMS ones. The results indicated that the highly cross-linked CMS was almost fully degradable when the enzymatic hydrolysis was performed during 6 h. The FT IR spectra of cross-linked CMS in the presence of AAc were examined to observe the carboxyl group of AAc in the structure of cross-linked CMS. The hydrophilic of cross-linked CMS surface was determined by a contact-angle analysis. © 2013, Science Press. All rights reserved.

Investigation of Polymorphisms in Coding Region of OsHKT1in Relation to Salinity in Rice

Rice （Oryza sativa） is sensitive to salinity, but the salt tolerance level differs among cultivars,which might result from natural variations in the genes that are responsible for salt tolerance. High-affinitypotassium transporter （HKTs） has been proven to be involved in salt tolerance in plants. Therefore, wescreened for natural nucleotide polymorphism in the coding sequence of OsHKT1, which encodes the HKTprotein in eight Vietnamese rice cultivars differing in salt tolerance level. In total, seven nucleotidesubstitutions in coding sequence of OsHKT1 were found, including two non-synonymous and five synonymoussubstitutions. Further analysis revealed that these two non-synonymous nucleotide substitutions （G50Tand T1209A） caused changes in amino acids （Gly17Val and Asp403Glu） at signal peptide and the loop ofthe sixth transmembrane domain, respectively. To assess the potential effect of these substitutions on theprotein function, the 3D structure of HKT protein variants was modelled by using PHYRE2 webserver. Theresults showed that no difference was observed when compared those predicted 3D structure of HKTprotein variants with each other. In addition, the codon bias of synonymous substitutions cannot clearlyshow correlation with salt tolerance level. It might be interesting to further investigate the functional roles ofdetected non-synonymous substitutions as it might correlate to salt tolerance in rice.

Bacterial leaf blight of rice (BLB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is one of the most destructive diseases in Asian rice fields. A high-quality rice variety, LT2, was used as the recipient ***21, which carries the Xa21 gene, was used as the donor parent. The resistance gene Xa21 was introduced into LT2 by marker-assisted backcrossing. Three Xoo races were used to inoculate the improved lines following the clipping method. Eleven BC_3F_3 lines carrying Xa21 were obtained based on molecular markers and agronomic performance. The 11 lines were then inoculated with the three Xoo races. All the 11 improved lines showed better resistance to BLB than the recipient parent LT2. Based on the level of resistance to BLB and their agronomic performance, five lines (BC_3F_3 5.***.5.1, BC_3F_3 5.***.5.12, BC_3F_3 8.***.6.44, BC_3F_3 9.***.4.1 and BC_3F_3 9.***.4.23) were selected as the most promising for commercial release. These improved lines could contribute to rice production in terms of food security.

在个体对材料的识记中,朗读的记忆效果优于默读的这一现象被称作“生产效应”。根据前人研究,当采用单词、词对、句子等实验材料时,生产效应的结果很稳定。虽然该生产效应在母语背景下稳定存在,但在二语材料的记忆中是否也存在稳定的生产效应,效应量的大小是否也完全相同,之前的理论假设是否同样可以解释二语的结果,这些问题尚不完全清楚。另外,不少研究表明,生产效应所对比的两种阅读模式,即朗读与默读,通常要设计为被试内因素才能得到相对稳定的效应。信号特异性理论、注意资源理论等从不同视角对该效应产生的行为机制进行了不同的解释。故本研究试图在母语和二语不同背景下,设计被试内和被试间实验,直接比较生产效应的稳定性、效应量及行为的机制差异。实验1采用2(阅读模式:朗读,默读)×2(材料语言:越南语,中文)被试内实验设计。招募汉语水平考试(HSK)达到4级水平的30名越南人为被试,以越南语词汇和中文词汇作为阅读材料进行记忆实验,每个材料只出现一次,阅读顺序在组间进行平衡。根据信号检测论,以辨别力指标d’为因变量的统计结果发现:个体阅读模式的主效应显著,即朗读的记忆效果显著优于默读,验证了生产效应的存在;材料语言的主效应显著,即个体对越南语词汇的记忆表现显著优于中文词汇,这与以往个体对自己母语的记忆优于二语的结果一致;而阅读模式和材料语言的交互作用不显著。说明在二语背景下,从再认的感受性来看,也存在稳定的生产效应。以判断标准C为因变量的统计结果发现:阅读模式的主效应显著,个体对默读的判断标准C比朗读更严格;材料语言的主效应显著,个体对越南语的判断标准C比中文更严格;阅读模式和材料语言的交互作用显著,具体表现为越南语条件下,朗读时的判断标准C比默读时更宽松,但中文条件下,朗读和默读条件下的判断标准C并无显著差异。说明在二语背景下,从再认的判断标准C来看,生产效应也一定程度地增强了。实验2采用2(阅读模式:朗读,默读)×2(材料语言:越南语,中文)混合实验设计,其中阅读模式为被试内设计,材料语言为被试间设计。招募汉语水平考试(HSK)达到4级水平的40名越南被试参加实验,分成两组,每组各20个被试,实验材料和程序与实验1相同。以辨别力指标d’为因变量的结果发现:个体的阅读模式主效应显著,即朗读条件的记忆表现显著优于默读条件;阅读模式与材料语言的交互作用显著,表现为在朗读条件下,个体对中文词汇的记忆表现相较于越南语词汇有更大的提升。说明在二语背景下,从再认的感受性来看,存在稳定的、增强的生产效应。以判断标准C为因变量的结果发现:阅读模式的主效应显著,个体相比于朗读条件,对默读条件的判断标准C更严格;材料语言的主效应显著,个体对越南语词汇的判断标准C比中文词汇更严格;阅读模式和材料语言的交互作用显著,具体表现为越南语条件下,朗读时的判断标准C比默读时更宽松,但中文条件下,朗读和默读条件下的判断标准C并无显著差异。再次表明在二语背景下生产效应被增强了。综上所述,本研究表明:(1)与以往母语材料的研究结果一致,朗读的记忆效果显著优于默读,验证了在二语背景下生产效应的存在,且该效应不受被试间因素的影响。(2)二语背景下的生产效应相对母语而言得到一定程度的增强,具体表现为再认感受性提高,判断标准C更严。

In the current work,to predict and improve the formability of deep drawing process for steel plate cold rolled commercial grade(SPCC) sheets,three parameters including the blanking force,the die and punch corner radius were *** experimental plan according to Taguchi's orthogonal array was coupled with the finite element method(FEM) ***,the data from the test of stress-strain and forming limit curves were used as input into ABAQUS/Explicit finite element code to predict the failure occurrence of deep drawing *** three parameters were then validated to establish their effects on the press *** optimum case found via simulation was finally confirmed through an *** order to obtain the complex curve profile of cup shape after deep drawing,the anisotropic behavior of earring phenomenon was modeled and implemented into *** such phenomenon was correctly predicted,an error metric compared with design curve was then measured.

Anti-inflammatory effects of fatty acids isolated from Chromolaena odorata

Objective:To identify inhibitors of nitric oxide production and NF-κB activity from Chromolaena odorata（***）.Methods:The compounds isolated from the aerial parts of *** by bioassay-guided fractionation were investigated for their inhibitory effects on the NO production and NF-κB activity in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 ***:Six fatty acids （S）-coriolic acid（1）,（S）-coriolic acid methyl ester（2）,（5）-15,16-didehydrocoriolic acid（3）,（S）- 15,16-didehydrocoriolic acid methyl ester（4）,linoleamide（5） and linolenamide（6） were isolated. All compounds inhibited the NO production at concentrations consistent with those required for NF-κB *** 2 was the most active with the IC50 values of 5.22 and 5.73μM. The addition of a double bond in the fatty chain decreased the inhibitory effects while the methyl esterification increased the ***:The fatty acid components in *** with NF-κB inhibitory activity could explain the anti-inflammation property of this plant in traditional *** study could also contribute to the better use of *** for human health care.

Nexus between CO₂ Emissions and Economic Growth, Industrial Production, and Foreign Direct Investment in Vietnam: Symmetric ARDL Approach

Vietnam’s economy has been developing strongly in recent years;however, it is necessary to examine the impact of its economic activities on environmental quality. this study aims to evaluate the relationship between CO2 emissions and economic growth, industrial production, and foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam. The ARDL estimation was used to process the dataset from World Bank. Results showed that economic growth, industrial production, and FDI have an impact on CO2 emissions in the long run in Vietnam. Granger Causality test also indicated that there is a causal relationship between economic growth, industrial production, and CO2 emissions in Vietnam from 1990 to 2018, at 5% statistical significance level. Proposed solutions to reduce CO2 emissions but still promote economic growth toward the green growth orientation and zero carbon target attainment are as follows: 1) reduce the use of fossil energy in industrial manufacturing and replace it by renewable energy sources;2) use modern technology for all production sectors in economy;and 3) develop a legal framework for FDI projects selection and choose foreign investors with modern and low carbon emission technology.

Morphological Change in the Northern Red River Delta,Vietnam

Coastal erosion has become a worldwide concern, typically in the densely populated Asian mega-river deltas. Severe coastal erosion in the southern Red River Delta(RRD) has been intensively studied. Coastal morphological change in the northern RRD was examined in detail through DEM(Digital Elevation Model) analysis based on time series of bathymetrical maps(1965–2004) and Landsat images(1975–2015) in this study. The results show that the northern RRD is featured by rapid coastal accretion in the past few decades, although suspended sediment flux has dropped by roughly 60% after the completeness of Hoa Binh Dam(HBD) in 1988 and relative sea level rose at 1.9 mm yr^(-1). However, accretion at the outer part of subtidal shoals and platforms was observed to slow down quickly or even turned into erosion in the last two decades. The resuspended sediments from the erosion zone can be transported landward to replenish the inner coastal zone, keeping the latter accretion in the near future to compensate for the sediment discharge decrease from the river. However, this lag effect should be terminated soon if other adverse effects go worse, e.g., damming rivers, sea-level rising, strengthening storms, land reclamation and other poor-designed coastal engineering. Coastal planners and managers should pay full attention to these changes.
