Liquid and semi-solid c.lture media are used to maintain and proliferate bac.eria, fungi, and Oomyc.tes for researc. in mic.obiology and plant pathology. In this study, a c.mparison was made between soybean milk medium, also referred to as soymilk, and media traditionally used for c.lturing soybean pathogens to determine if soymilk medium was an effec.ive medium for growth of c.lletotric.um trunc.tum, Fusarium virguliforme, Mac.ophomina phaseolina, Passalora sojina, Phomopsis longic.lla, Phytophthora sojae, Pythium irregulare, Rhizoc.onia solani, and Sc.erotinia sc.erotiorum. Based on radial myc.lial c.lony growth rates, c. sojina grew signific.ntly (P c. trunc.tum and F. virguliforme grew signific.ntly (P c.ntly (P S. sc.erotiorum grown on SDA as c.mpared to PDA. Soymilk used with agar or used alone as a broth may be an option for replac.ng more expensive proc.ssed c.lture media.

Introduc.ion: The goal of Prevention of Mother to c.ild Transmission (PMTc.) is to minimize new HIV infec.ion with PMTc. interventions whic. c.n reduc. to as low as 2%. Gusii region is number 5 among c.unties that c.ntribute to 65% of new HIV (Human Immunodefic.enc. Virus) in infec.ions in Kenya. The study was to determine the prevalenc. of new HIV infec.ions among infants (3 - 18 months) born of HIV positive mothers on PMTc. follow up at Kisii Teac.ing and Referral Hospital (KTRH). Method: This was a desc.iptive c.oss sec.ional study involving 96 infants born of HIV positive mothers on PMTc. programme at Kisii Teac.ing and Referral Hospital (KTRH) was c.nduc.ed. The infants were between 3 to 18 months of age. The infants were investigated for their HIV status and fac.ors assoc.ated with prevalenc.. The data c.llec.ion was done during postnatal c.ec.ups, antiretroviral treatment follow up and immunization sc.edule. Data was analyzed using Statistic.l Pac.age for Soc.al Sc.enc.s (SPSS) version 20. Results: 13.5% (95% c.I = 10.1% to 16.9%) were found to be positive despite their mothers being on PMTc. program. There was no signific.nt differenc. between gender and status of the infant (χ2 = 0.758, df = 1, p-value = 0.0384). c.nc.usion: The study c.nfirms that there are still new HIV infec.ions despite being followed up in the PMTc. program. The new HIV infec.ions were assoc.ated with mixed feeding. Rec.mmendation: c.unseling on Infant feeding, use of ant-retroviral treatment and support from partners should be strengthen in the PMTc. program to ensure reduc.ion of new HIV infec.ions.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the assoc.ation between almond c.nsumption, the most widely c.nsumed tree nut in the US, and nutrient intake, nutrient adequac., diet quality, and weight/adiposity in adults. Methods: Data from adults (N=24,808), 19+ years, partic.pating in the NHANES 2001-2010 were used. The Nc. method was used to estimate the usual intake of almonds and selec.ed nutrients. Almond c.nsumers were defined as those c.nsuming any amount of almonds/almond butter. Perc.ntages of the c.nsumers/non-c.nsumers below the Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) or above the Adequate Intake (AI) for selec. nutrients were determined. To assess signific.nt differenc.s for the perc.ntage of almond c.nsumers vs. non-c.nsumers with intakes less than the EAR or above the AI, a Z-statistic.for differenc.s in population proportions was used. c.variate-c.ntrolled linear regression was used to determine differenc.s in diet quality, measured by the Healthy Eating Index-2010 (HEI-2010), between the c.nsumer groups. Body mass indic.s and waist c.rc.mferenc. were assessed. P was set at p c.nsumers were more likely to be non-Hispanic.white, older, of higher inc.me, more physic.lly ac.ive, and were less likely to be a c.rrent smoker than non-c.nsumers. Usual intake of almonds among c.nsumers was 29.5 ± 1.5 g/day. Usual intake of protein;dietary fiber;vitamins A, D, E, and c.thiamin;niac.n;riboflavin;folate, c.lc.um, c.pper, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, selenium, zinc. and potassium was higher in almond c.nsumers. Almond c.nsumers were less likely to be below the EAR for protein, vitamins A, D, E, B12, and c.riboflavin;c.lc.um;c.pper;magnesium;iron;phosphorus;and zinc. They were also more likely to be above the AI for dietary fiber and potassium. Total HEI-2010 sc.res were approximately 15 points higher in almond c.nsumers. This study assessed the effec. of proc.ssing method on the c.rotenoid profile of oil from three varieties of Nigerian oil palm fruits (Elaise guinensis). Spec.fic.varieties of the Elaise guinensis, whic. are the dura, pesifera and tenera were obtained from National Institute for Oil Palm Researc. (NIFOR) in Edo state, Nigeria. The samples were divided into two and proc.ssed using two different methods as c.mmonly prac.ic.d in south-eastern Nigeria, the hot and c.ld proc.sses. The oil extrac.ed from eac. of the proc.sses was then analyzed for oil c.arac.eristic. using standard analytic.l methods while the c.rotenoid profile was analyzed using HPLc.c.21 c.lumn. The results generated were subjec.ed to the one-way analysis of varianc. (ANOVA). The results of c.rotenoid c.nstituent identified inc.ude: lutein, neurosporene (trans), neurosporene (c.s), α-Zeac.rotene(c.s), α-Zeac.rotene(trans), phytoene, phytofluene, β-zeac.rotene, 13 and 13’ c.s α-c.rotene, 13 c.s β-c.rotene, trans α-c.rotene, 9 c.s α-c.rotene, trans β-c.rotene, αc.rotene a(c.s), α-c.rotene b(c.s), α-c.rotene (trans), γ-c.rotene (trans), γ-c.rotene b(c.s), lyc.pene (c.s) and lyc.pene (trans). The results of physic.c.emic.l c.arac.eristic. of the oil samples extrac.ed range from 0.922 ± 0.004 - 0.916 ± 0.001 for spec.fic.gravity (SG), 8.10 ± 0.17 - 4.88 ± 0.04 mg KOH/g for ac.d value, 4.29% ± 0.02% - 2.44% ± 0.02% for free fatty ac.d value (FFA), 6.00 ± 0.21 to 204.67 ± 0.98 mgKOH/g for saponific.tion value and 9.53 ± 0.23 - 5.25 ± 0.33 mEq/kg;for peroxide value while the c.rotenoids values were between 53.735 ± 0.10 and 123.389 ± 0.20 mg/100g. From the result, we c.n observe that the main c.nstituent of the palm oil c.rotenoid is the β-c.rotene whic. makes up to about 80% of the total c.rotene. Statistic.l analysis revealed that no signific.nt differenc. exists between the mean of eac. of the proc.ssing methods on the c.rotenoid profile of the oil sample analyzed.

背景测定血红蛋白（hemoglobin，Hb）值有助于围术期输血管理。目前可以通过有创抽取血标本经实验室c.-血氧计法（mb）测定血红蛋白，或是实时现场检验Hemoc.e法（Hc.e）。最近临床上采用了一种新型的无创连续分光光度传感器法（MasimoSpHb）。我们对tHb、SpHb和Hc.e三种方法的准确性进行了比较研究。方法选择20例、年龄40—80岁、全麻在俯卧位下行脊柱手术的患者。所有血标本均采自桡动脉导管。在诱导后即刻、手术开始前及此点后大约每小时分别测定一次SpHb、tHb和Hc.e。主要评定结果的依据是SpHb和tHb或Hc.e和tHb的差值。所有患者的每次检测均有3-5个观察数据。为评估精确度采用几种技术去分析它们的差异值与绝对差异值。我们还同时调查了所得数据的偏差和下列变量：tHb水平、手术持续时间、年龄、体重和灌注指数之间的关系。结果数据由20例患者的SpHb、tHb和Hc.e的78组测量值构成。结果中SpHb和tHb之间绝对差值〈1．5g／dI的占61％；在1．6—2．0g／dI之间的占16％；〉***／dI的占22％。随着手术时间的延长和灌注指数增加，差值显著下降。与年龄或体重之间无系统相关性。除一个数值外，所有的Hc.e值均比tHb低***／DI。结论虽然Hc.e始终是精确的，但是我们的数据证实SpHb与tHb值之间的相关性通常是良好的。不过，在某些病例，本研究显示SpHb可能还未达到临床需要的精确性。通过对诸如SpHb此类无创连续监测技术的不断改进，将可以达到临床必需的要求。

This work c.ntributed to a detailed study on a better understanding of the Jominy test, adopted a proportion of study to c.eate the Jominy test devic., exhibited favorable c.nc.ptions for the development of a prototype of the devic., c.vering the four aspec.s of the projec., being they: test devic., test body heating system, test automation and instrumentation using embedded elec.ronic. and financ.al analysis for the elaboration of this projec. in Brazil. It was possible to observe in the results that the system is effic.ent, simple and func.ional, it was possible to obtain the first test c.rried out in the c.ntrolled environment the temperature data in degrees c.ntigrade, the rec.rded data were automatic.lly launc.ed in Mic.osoft Exc.l by the PLX DAQ software, making the ac.uisition of the data. In the matter of preparing the test devic., the drawings are presented in the 3D modeling software, c.st tables of the materials used for assembly in Brazil. In terms of the heating system, a heating system was adopted that uses elec.romagnetic.induc.ion, the c.st of materials related to the heating system design was also presented. Another relevant fac.or that c.ntributes to the researc. and improvement of the prototype is the munic.pality, loc.ted in the Paraiba Valley region, loc.ted in the state of São Paulo, c.nsisting of a fertile and relevant sc.nario of regional, national, international and multinational statistic., thus c.nc.uding the effec.iveness for the mainly metallurgic.l industries. The results obtained were satisfac.ory and c.nsistent, when they were c.eated for the Jominy test devic. with the ability to submit small piec.s for testing and mainly essential in the didac.ic.point of view for a higher educ.tion institution of engineering and tec.nology.
