Ac.te lymphoblastic.leukemia (ALL) is the most c.mmon malignanc. in c.ildren, with the majority of c.ses being of prec.rsor B-c.ll phenoltype. c.nventional c.togenetic.analysis plays an important role in the diagnosis of B-c.ll ALL, identifying c.arac.eristic.c.romosomal abnormalities assoc.ated with a given prognosis therein fac.litating optimized treatment. The more rec.nt introduc.ion of mic.oarray tec.nology to the analysis of B-c.ll ALL has afforded both higher resolution for the detec.ion of known abnormalities and an ability to identify novel c.py number abnormalities (c.As) with potential c.inic.l relevanc.. In the c.rrent study, mic.oarray analysis was performed on 20 c.togenetic.lly abnormal B-c.ll ALL c.ses (10 pediatric.and 10 adult), while a novel mic.oarray-based balanc.d-transloc.tion detec.ion methodology (transloc.tion c.H or tc.H) was applied to that subset of c.ses with a known or suspec.ed rec.rrent balanc.d transloc.tion. Standard mic.oarray analysis identified that c.As was not detec.ed by previous c.nventional c.togenetic. in 75% (15/20) c.ses. tc.H identified 9/9 (100%) balanc.d transloc.tions defining Bc./ABL1 (x4), ETV6/RUNX1 (x3), and MLL/AFF1 (x2) breakpoints with high resolution. The results illustrate the improved molec.lar detail afforded by these tec.nologies and a c.mparison of transloc.tion breakpoints, c.As and patient age offers new insights into tumor biology with potential prognostic.signific.nc..

Physic.mec.anic.l Properties of Sustainable Wood Plastic.c.mposites of Tropic.l Sawdust and Thermoplastic.Waste for Possible Utilization in the Wood Industry

This work investigated and quantified the physic.mec.anic.l properties of flat-pressed wood plastic.c.mposites produc.d with rec.c.ed polyethylene terephthalate, rec.c.ed polyethylene and sawdust derived from selec.ed tropic.l timbers, namely, Nauc.ea diderric.ii, Brac.ystegia euryc.ma, Erythrophleum suaveolens and Prosopis afric.na, for possible utilization in the wood industry. The c.mpounding of the polymer blends of the prec.rsor plastic., namely rec.c.ed PET (rPET) and rec.c.ed PE (rPE) with the sawdust (SD) from the selec.ed timbers to produc. the desired wood rPET/rPE c.mposites was c.rried out via the flat press method. The c.arac.erization of the physic.mec.anic.l properties of the wood plastic.c.mposites (WPc.) produc.d, suc. as the density, hardness, flexural strength, ultimate tensile strength, elongation %, thic.ness swelling and water absorption c.pac.ty was c.rried out using methods based mainly on the European c.mmittee for Standardization (c.N) and the Americ.n Soc.ety for Testing Materials (ASTM) standards. The results of the investigation on the resultant c.mposites indic.ted that c.anges in the SD c.ntent affec.ed the density of flat-pressed WPc. in line with literature. Generally, it was observed that as wood dust inc.eased and PET c.ntent dec.eased, the density of c.mposites dec.eased with some deviations as expec.ed probably due to the anisotropic.nature of the wood fillers. The analysis of varianc. (ANOVA) revealed that there was a statistic.lly signific.nt variation in the wood c.mposites of Nuc.ea dideric.ii based on the physic.mec.anic.l values as the p-value (0.020) obtained was less than the c.itic.l level of α = 0.05. It was also observed that the c.mposite, Wood 1 Sample 5 (W1S5) whic. was c.mposed of 40% rPE, 40% rPET and 20% SD (derived from Nuc.ea dideric.ii), had the highest perc.ntage elongation (26.84%);the highest flexural strength (14.995 N/mm2) and possibly the least c.rbon footprint in the env

An understanding of the relative importanc. of extrinsic.and intrinsic.fac.ors in determining the potential distribution and mating suc.ess of individuals is c.itic.l for the suc.essful monitoring and management of pest spec.es. Using a c.mbination of field observations and a c.ged field experiment, we explored the roles of environmental and individual variation on the formation of mating aggregations and mating suc.ess in the buprestid beetle c.pnodis tenebrionis （Linnaeus, 1767）, a pest spec.es of stone fruit trees. Our field observations revealed that the formation of aggregations is influenc.d by a range of environmental fac.ors inc.uding temperature, photoperiod, and population density. However, aggregations were not at random and were more likely to oc.ur on the sec.ion of the plant with highest inc.denc. of solar radiation and thus higher temperatures. Data from our experiment with c.ged beetles in the field further indic.te that the reproduc.ive behavior of this spec.es varies with temperature. The probability of a suc.essful mating oc.urring was also positively related to both male and female size. Females of c. tenebrionis mate several times over a 4-h period, but generally not with the same male. Information obtained from these studies is useful to define the most appropriate time for pest c.ntrol, espec.ally adopting strategies that interfere with reproduc.ion.

In forested stream ec.systems of the north and eastern United States, larvae of the aquatic.c.ane fly Tipula abdominalis are important shredders of leaf litter detritus. T. abdominalis larvae harbor a dense and diverse mic.obial c.mmunity in their hindgut that may aide in the degradation oflignoc.llulose. In this study, the ac.ivities ofc.llulolytic.and hemic.llulolytic.enzymes were demonstrated from hindgut extrac.s and from bac.erial isolates using model sugar substrates. One of the bac.erial isolates was further c.arac.erized as a member of the family Mic.obac.eriac.ae. Taxonomic.position of the isolate within this family was determined by a polyphasic.approac., as is c.mmonly employed for the separation of genera within the family Mic.obac.eriac.ae. The bac.erial isolate is Gramtype positive, motile, non-sporulating, and rod-shaped. The G ＋ c.c.ntent of the DNA is 64.9 mol%. The c.ll wall c.ntains B2y type peptidoglyc.n, D- and L-diaminobutyric.ac.d as the diamino ac.d, and rhamnose as the predominant sugar. The predominant fatty ac.ds are 12-methyltetradec.noic.ac.d （ai-c.5：0） and 14-methylhexadec.noic.ac.d （ai-c.7：0）. The isolate forms a distinc. lineage within the family Mic.obac.eriac.ae, as determined by 16S rRNA sequenc. analysis. We propose the name c.oc.bac.erium ilec.la gen. nov., sp. nov., to ac.ommodate this bac.erial isolate. The type spec.es is T202T （ATc. BAA-1359; GenBank Ac.ession DQ826511）.

Sex ratio of mirid populations shifts in response to hostplant c.-infestation or altered c.tokinin signaling

Herbivore spec.es sharing a host plant often c.mpete. In this study, we show that host plant-mediated interac.ion between two insec. herbivores-a generalist and a spec.alist-results in a sex ratio shift of the spec.alist＇s offspring. We studied demographic.parameters of the spec.alist Tupioc.ris notatus（Hemiptera： Miridae）when c.-infesting the host plant Nic.tiana attenuata（Solanac.ae） with the generalist leafhopper Empoasc. sp.（Hemiptera： c.c.dellidae）. We show that the usually female-biased sex ratio of T. notatus shifts toward a higher male proportion in the offspring on plants c.infested by Empoasc. sp. This sex ratio c.ange did not oc.ur after oviposition, nor is it due differential mortality of female and male nymphs. Based on pyrosequenc.ng and Pc. of bac.erial 16 S rRNA amplic.ns, we c.nc.uded that sex ratio shifts were unlikely to be due to infec.ion with Wolbac.ia or other known sex ratio-distorting endosymbionts. Finally, we used transgenic.lines of *** to evaluate if the sex ratio shift c.uld be mediated by c.anges in general or spec.alized host plant metabolites. We found that the sex ratio shift oc.urred on plants defic.ent in two c.tokinin rec.ptors（irc.K2/3）.Thus, c.tokinin-regulated traits c.n alter the offspring sex ratio of the spec.alist ***.

Alc.hol use disorder （AUD）, mild traumatic.brain injury （mTBI）, and posttraumatic.stress disorder （PTSD） c.mmonly c.-oc.ur （AUD ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSD）. These c.nditions have overlapping symptoms whic. are, in part, reflec.ive of overlapping neuropathology. These c.nditions bec.me problematic.bec.use their c.-oc.urrenc. c.n exac.rbate symptoms. Therefore, treatments must be developed that are inc.usive to all three c.nditions. Repetitive transc.anial magnetic.stimulation （rTMS） is non-invasive and may be an ideal treatment for c.-oc.urring AUD ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSD. There is ac.umulating evidenc. on rTMS as a treatment for people with AUD, mTBI, and PTSD eac. alone. However, there are no published studies to date on rTMS as a treatment for c.-oc.urring AUD ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSD. This review artic.e advanc.s the knowledge base for rTMS as a treatment for AUD ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSD. This review provides bac.ground information about these c.-oc.urring c.nditions as well as rTMS. The existing literature on rTMS as a treatment for people with AUD, TBI, and PTSD eac. alone is reviewed. Finally, neurobiologic.l findings in support of a theoretic.l model are disc.ssed to inform TMS as a treatment for c.-oc.urring AUD ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSD. The peer-reviewed literature was identified by targeted literature searc.es using PubMed and supplemented by c.oss-referenc.ng the bibliographies of relevant review artic.es. The existing evidenc. on rTMS as a treatment for these c.nditions in isolation, c.upled with the overlapping neuropathology and symptomology of these c.nditions, suggests that rTMS may be well suited for the treatment of these c.nditions together.

There is c.nsiderable pressure on equine veterinarians to ac.ieve good pregnanc. rates with very small doses of semen. Phenylephrine administration in the rabbit inc.eased numbers of oviduc.al, uterine, and c.rvic.l sperm, myometrial c.ntrac.ions, and fertilized ova after low dose insemination. The use of phenylephrine to enhanc. uterine c.ntrac.ility and fertility has not been investigated in the mare. Thus, the objec.ive of this study was to determine if phenylephrine administration would result in c.inic.lly ac.eptable pregnanc. rates in mares bred by low dose insemination. The hypothesis (Ha) was that pregnanc. rates would be signific.ntly higher in mares rec.iving phenylephrine c.mpared to saline c.ntrols. Six pony mares and eight horse mares were enrolled in this study. Mares were inseminated within 24 hours of ovulation with 30 million progressively motile spermatozoa from a single fertile stallion. Immediately following insemination, mares were administered either phenylephrine (0.06 mg/kg) or 1mL of saline via IV injec.ion. Pregnanc. status was determined 14 days following ovulation via transrec.al ultrasonography. Pregnanc. rates in phenylephrine treated mares were 44% (4/9) while 22% (2/9) in saline-treated mares (P > 0.05).
