Soluble resistance-related calcium binding protein(Sorcin)is a protein initially labelled“resistance-related”,since it is co-amplified with ABCB1 in multidrug(MD)-resistant *** for years Sorcin overproduction was believed to be a by-product of the co-amplification of its gene with the P-glycoprotein gene,many recent studies view Sorcin as an oncoprotein,playing an important role in MD resistance(MDR).Sorcin is one of the most highly expressed calciumbinding proteins,which is overexpressed in many human tumors and MD resistant cancers,and represents a novel MDR *** expression in tumors inversely correlates with patients’response to chemotherapies and overall *** is highly expressed in MDR cell lines over their parent *** overexpression by gene transfection increases drug resistance to a variety of chemotherapeutic drugs in many cancer *** the other hand,Sorcin silencing leads to reversal of drug resistance in many cell *** review describes:(1)the roles of Sorcin in the cell;(2)the studies showing Sorcin overexpression in tumors and cancer cells;(3)the studies showing the effects of Sorcin overexpression and silencing;(4)the molecular effects of Sorcin overexpression;and(5)the structural and genetic bases of Sorcin-dependent MDR.

Prognostic role of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in patients with non-metastatic and metastatic prostate cancer:A meta-analysis and systematic review

Objective: To analyze data available in the literature regarding a possible prognostic value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in prostate cancer (PCa) patients stratified in non-metastatic and metastatic ***: A literature search process was performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. In our meta-analysis, the pooled event rate estimated and the pooled hazard ratio were calculated using a random effect ***: Forty-two articles were selected for our analysis. The pooled risk difference for non-organ confined PCa between high and low NLR cases was 0.06 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −0.03-0.15) and between high and low PLR cases increased to 0.30 (95% CI: 0.16-0.43). In non-metastatic PCa cases, the pooled hazard ratio for overall mortality between high and low NLR was 1.33 (95% CI: 0.78-1.88) and between high and low PLR was 1.47 (95% CI: 0.91-2.03), whereas in metastatic PCa cases, between high and low NLR was 1.79 (95% CI: 1.44-2.13) and between high and low PLR was 1.05 (95% CI: 0.87-1.24).Conclusion: The prognostic values of NLR and PLR in terms of PCa characteristics and responses after treatment show a high level of heterogeneity of results among studies. These two ratios can represent the inflammatory and immunity status of the patient related to several conditions. A higher predictive value is related to a high NLR in terms of risk for overall mortality in metastatic PCa cases under systemic treatments.

Influence of uncertainties: A focus on block volume and shape assessment for rockfall analysis

Block size and shape depend on the state of fracturing of the rock mass and,consequently,on the geometrical features of the discontinuity sets(mainly orientation,spacing,and persistence).The development of non-contact surveying techniques applied to rock mass characterization offers significant advantages in terms of data numerosity,precision,and accuracy,allowing for performing a rigorous statistical analysis of the *** fact is particularly evident when dealing with rockfall phenomena:uncertainties in spacing and orientation data could significantly amplify the uncertainties connected with in situ block size distribution(IBSD),which represents a relation between each possible value of the volume and its probability of not being *** addition to volume,block shape can be considered as a derived parameter that suffers from *** attempts to model the possible trajectories of blocks considering their actual shape have been proposed,aiming to reproduce the effect on *** authors proposed analytical equations for calculating the expected value and variance of volume distributions,based on the geometrically correct equation for block volume in the case of three discontinuity *** quantify and discuss the effect of both volume and shape variability through a synthetic case ***,a fictitious rock mass with three discontinuity sets is assumed as the source of *** IBSDs obtained considering different spacing datasets are quantitatively compared,and the overall uncertainty effect is assessed,proving the correctness of the proposed ***,block shape distributions are obtained and compared,confirming the variability of shapes within the same ***,a comparison between trajectory simulations on the synthetic slope is reported,aiming to highlight the effects of the propagation of uncertainties to block volume and shape *** benefits of an approach that can quantify the uncertainties are discussed

Distributed fiber optic monitoring of a CFA pile with a central reinforcement bar bundle

In this paper,we present an application of distributed fiber optic sensor(DFOS)technology to measure the strain of a continuous flight auger(CFA)test pile with a central reinforcement bar bundle,during a static load test carried out in *** distributed in nature,DFOS gives much more information about the pile performance as compared to traditional point sensors,such as identifying cross-sectional irregularities or other *** strain profiles recorded along the depth of the piles from the DFOS were used to calculate pile deformation(contraction),shaft friction,and tip resistance under various *** on this pile load test,a finite element(FE)analysis was performed using a one-dimensional nonlinear load-transfer *** by the shaft friction and tip resistance derived from the monitored data,the FE model was able to simulate the pile and soil performance during the load testing with good *** effect of the reinforcement cage and central reinforcement bar bundle were investigated,and it was found that the addition of a reinforcement cage would reduce the pile settlement by up to 20%.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection affects about 350 million individuals worldwide. Management of HBV infection in pregnancy is difficult because of several peculiar and somewhat controversial aspects. The aim of the present review is to provide a tool that may help physicians to correctly manage HBV infection in pregnancy. This review focuses on (1) the effect of pregnancy on HBV infection and of HBV infection on pregnancy; (2) the potential viral transmission from mother to newborn despite at-birth prophylaxis with immunoglobulin and vaccine; (3) possible prevention of mother-to-child transmission through antiviral drugs, the type of antiviral drug to use considering their efficacy and potential teratogenic effect, and the timing of their administration and discontinuation; and (4) the evidence for the use of elective caesarean section vs vaginal delivery and the possibility of breastfeeding.

Laparoscopic approach for hepatocellular carcinoma: where is the limit?

Hepatocellular cancer （HCC） is the sixth most common malignant tumor worldwide and the most common primary liver cancer （1）. Liver resection or liver transplantation is the therapeutic gold standards in patient with HCC. Due to advanced disease, extrahepatic metastases, or inadequate liver reserve, only 15% to 30% of patients with HCC can undergo to surgery （2）. Five-year risk of recurrence of HCC after resection is as high as 70% because the underlying chronic liver disease continues to put the patient at risk for the development of new cancer nodules （3）. Starting from the assumption that recurrence may be newly treated with surgery, laparoscopic approach is recommended,
