Background: Recent projections expect that Vietnam will be affected most severely by climate change with higher temperatures, more precipitation and rising sea levels. Especially increased temperatures will worsen the situations in cities, amplifying the urban heat island effect. Green infrastructures, i.e. urban trees are a common rtool to improve the urban micro-climate for humans. Vital and well growing trees provide greatest benefits such as evaporative cooling, shading, air filtering and carbon storage. However, urban tree growth is often negatively affected by urban growing conditions such as high soil sealing with compacted tree pits providing small growing spaces with limited water, nutrient and oxygen supply, further warm temperatures and high pollution emissions. this study analyzed the growth of urban and rural African mahogany(Khaya senegalensis(Desr.) A. Juss.) trees in the city of Hanoi, Vietnam and the effects of the surrounding climate conditions on tree ***: The results showed that rural African mahogany trees grew better than trees situated in the city center, which is contrary to other results on tree growth of temperate and subtropical cities worldwide. Moreover tree growth was similar regardless of the time of growth. Other results regarding stem growth of African mahogany located in different areas of Hanoi(east, west, north, city center) revealed a better growth in the northern and western outskirts of the city compared to the growth of trees in the city ***: African mahogany trees in the urban centers of Hanoi showed a decreased growth compared to rural trees,which was likely induced by a low ground-water level and high pollution rates. In view of climate change and global warming, the decreased tree growth in the city center may also affect tree service provision such as shading and cooling. Emergency cerclage with advanced cervical dilatation and bulging of fetal membranes is still challenging to obstetricians.?Objective:?To identify the live birth rate after physical examination indicated rescue cerclage. Methods:?A retrospective cohort study of 36 pregnant women, who underwent rescue cerclage at Hung Vuong hospital from January 2015 to January 2019. Selection criteria: cervical dilation 10 to 40 mm, at 20 to 30 gestational weeks. Exclusion criteria: multiple pregnancy, birth defects, pregnancy termination due to maternal or fetal indications. Results: Delivery of live infant rate was 72.22%;mean pregnancy prolongation was 42.8 ±?34.15 days. Early live birth rate was 77.78%. The percentage of delivery after 34 and 37 weeks was 44.45% and 27.78%, respectively. Live birth weight was 400 to 3600?g, with mean being 1878.06 ±?1049.04?g. No procedure-related complication was observed. Conclusions:?Rescue cerclage may be an effective and safe method in prolonging pregnancy and improving neonatal outcome in women with cervical dilation 10 to 40 mm. It should be considered as a viable option for women with a dilated cervix in 20 to 30 gestational weeks. Future controlled studies are needed.

Friction characteristics of mechanically exfoliated and CVD-grown single-layer MoS_2

In this work, the friction characteristics of single-layer MoS_2 prepared with chemical vapor deposition(CVD) at three different temperatures were quantitatively investigated and compared to those of single-layer MoS_2 prepared using mechanical exfoliation. The surface and crystalline qualities of the MoS_2 specimens were characterized using an optical microscope, atomic force microscope(AFM), and Raman spectroscopy. The surfaces of the MoS2 specimens were generally flat and smooth. However, the Raman data showed that the crystalline qualities of CVD-grown single-layer MoS2 at 800 °C and 850 °C were relatively similar to those of mechanically exfoliated MoS2 whereas the crystalline quality of the CVD-grown single-layer MoS_2 at 900 °C was lower. The CVD-grown single-layer MoS_2 exhibited higher friction than mechanically exfoliated single-layer MoS_2, which might be related to the crystalline imperfections in the CVD-grown MoS_2. In addition, the friction of CVD-grown single-layer MoS_2 increased as the CVD growth temperature increased. In terms of tribological properties, 800 °C was the optimal temperature for the CVD process used in this work. Furthermore, it was observed that the friction at the grain boundary was significantly larger than that at the grain, potentially due to defects at the grain boundary. this result indicates that the temperature used during CVD should be optimized considering the grain size to achieve low friction characteristics. The outcomes of this work will be useful for understanding the intrinsic friction characteristics of single-layer MoS2 and elucidating the feasibility of single-layer MoS_2 as protective or lubricant layers for micro- and nano-devices.

The current study presents the effects of seasonal variations in the depth-of-closure（D;） on shoreline evolution using a numerical,one-line shoreline *** erosion of the southern beach of the Nha trang Coast,which is located in south central of Vietnam,is selected as the study *** study area is immensely influenced by the tropical monsoon climate that has a clear pattern of large waves in the northeast monsoon season and calm waves in the non-monsoon *** analysis of the long-term measured shoreline variations from a video-camera system has found a strong correlation of these variations to the monsoon-dominated wave characteristics in the Nha trang ***,a new approach for determining the depth-of-closure with consideration of the seasonal wave climate changes is purposed in the current *** implementing this new approach into a numerical,one-line shoreline model,it is found that the seasonal variations of D;appear to better describe the periodical shoreline evolution due to the monsoon-dominated wave characteristics for the Nha trang *** important findings are considered to commonly apply for monsoon-dominated coastal regions in *** findings are useful information not only for scientific readers but also for the coastal authorities and managers in order to make better countermeasure plans against this kind of erosion mechanism in the future.

Sphenomorphus incognitus is recorded for the first time outside of China. The new locality record is from the Tay Yen Tu Nature Reserve in Bac Giang Province, northeastern Vietnam at elevations between 200–450 m. Based on the newly collected specimens, we present an expanded description and provide data on the natural history of this species in northern Vietnam.

this study aims at evidencing the effects of lime treatment on the microstructure and hydraulic conductivityof a compacted expansive clay, with emphasis put on the effect of lime hydration and *** this purpose, evolutions of hydraulic conductivity were investigated for both lime-treatedand untreated soil specimens over 7 d after full saturation of the specimens and their microstructureswere observed at the end. Note that for the treated specimen, dry clay powder was mixed with quicklimeprior to compaction in order to study the effect of lime hydration. It is observed that lime hydration andmodification did not affect the intra-aggregate pores but increased the inter-aggregates pores size. thisincrease gave rise to an increase of hydraulic conductivity. More precisely, the hydraulic conductivity oflime-treated specimen increased progressively during the first 3 d of modification phase and stabilisedduring the next 4 d which correspond to a short period prior to the stabilisation phase. The microstructureobservation showed that stabilisation reactions took place after 7 d. Objective:Recently,much attention has been paid to natural product-derived compounds for antidiabetic drug *** recent studies are being focused on clarifying the bioactivity of plants and derived *** aim of the present study was to investigate the anti-oxidant and antidiabetic activities of Clerodendrum inerme leaf extract(CILE)in streptozotocin-induced diabetic ***:*** leaves were analyzed for preliminary phytochemical properties and the content of total phenolic and flavonoid were *** vitro anti-oxidant activity was measured using DPPH ***-induced diabetic model in mice was applied for in vivo study by the effect of CILE at two dose levels(343 and 686 mg/kg b.w.).Results:The results showed that *** leaves contained the major constituents of flavonoids,alkaloids,tannins,triterpenes,and *** exhibited the total polyphenol and flavonoid content with 120.458 mg gallic acid equivalent/g dry weight and 4.494 mg hispidulin equivalent/g dry weight,*** anti-oxidant activity of CILE was expressed with IC50=25.28μg/m *** at the doses of343 mg/kg and 686 mg/kg after 7 d administration exerted a decrease in plasma glucose,protected the liver,kidneys against oxidation stress via increasing glutathione content in the liver,and reduced malondialdehyde content in the liver and *** histological analysis in diabetic mice treated with CILE also showed the pancreaticβ-cells regeneration via increasing the size and number of pancreatic ***:These findings suggested that *** leaves had potent antidiabetic and anti-oxidant *** results provide reliable scientific base,which is the premise for further research and development of CILE as supplements.

Bioethics falls within the controversial ethical issues from the new advances and emerging technology in pre-clinical and clinical settings which inspired medical policy and practice. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of ethical issues in stem cell-based therapies and to provide substantial argument for the need of a Bioethics Research Consortium that will be tasked with convening a disciplined board of experts that will apply their principles to biomedical research, and emerging technology to further stipulate the socioeconomic influence of such entities and their therapeutic impact to society. Not too long ago, the successful therapeutic studies in Parkinson’s disease and stroke were the highlights of bioethical issues. The precedent for study selection was based on public feedback, government reception, and scientific analyses developed by these spearhead studies. From all the negative publicity that researchers have been getting before, the whiplash from decades of fear and misunderstanding has hindered the progress of scientific study. There is a huge figurative tug of war between what is making profit and what is needed to improve the health of afflicted patients worldwide. Poor management of education and funding may have actually hindered potential life changing cures and treatments from coming to fruition. We propose the creation of a Bioethics Research Consortium that would determine how ethical matters are handled with careful consideration to public need. The goal is to restructure drug development policy, and improve upon the ways in which research methods and funds are handled today.
