Spatiotemporal Trend Analysis of Precipitation Extremes in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam During 1980–2017

In this study,the spatiotemporal variability of trends in extreme precipitation events in Ho Chi Minh City during the period 1980–2017 was analyzed based on several core extreme precipitation indices(Rx1 day,Rx5 day,CDD,CWD,R20 mm,R25 mm,R95 p,and SDII).The nonparametric Mann–Kendall and Sen’s slope methods were used to compute the statistical strength,stability,and magnitude of trends in annual rainfall,as well as the extreme precipitation *** found that 64%of the stations had statistically significant upward trends in yearly rainfall,with high magnitudes frequently observed in the northern and southern regions of the *** the extreme precipitation indices,only SDII and R25 mm showed dominantly significant ***,there were increasing trends in the frequency and duration at the southern and central regions of the city during the study ***,El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation and Pacific Decadal Oscillation positively correlated with the duration and negatively correlated with the intensity and frequency of extreme ***,water management plans should be adjusted appropriately to reduce the severe impacts of precipitation extremes on communities and ecosystems.

High-thermal free vibration analysis of functionally graded microplates using a new finite element formulation based on TSDT and MSCT

Recent advancements in additive manufacturing(AM)have revolutionized the design and production of complex engineering *** these advancements,their mathematical modeling and computational analysis remain significant *** research aims to develop an effective computational method for analyzing the free vibration of functionally graded(FG)microplates under high temperatures while resting on a Pasternak foundation(PF).This formulation leverages a new thirdorder shear deformation theory(new TSDT)for improved accuracy without requiring shear correction ***,the modified couple stress theory(MCST)is incorporated to account for sizedependent effects in *** PF is characterized by two parameters including spring stiffness(k_(w))and shear layer stiffness(k_(s)).To validate the proposed method,the results obtained are compared with those of the existing ***,numerical examples explore the influence of various factors on the high-temperature free vibration of FG *** factors include the length scale parameter(l),geometric dimensions,material properties,and the presence of the elastic *** findings significantly enhance our comprehension of the free vibration of FG microplates in high thermal *** addition,the findings significantly enhance our comprehension of the free vibration of FG microplates in high thermal *** addition,the results of this research will have great potential in military and defense applications such as components of submarines,fighter aircraft,and missiles.

Prediction of Shear Bond Strength of Asphalt Concrete Pavement Using Machine Learning Models and Grid Search Optimization Technique

Determination of Shear Bond strength(SBS)at interlayer of double-layer asphalt concrete is crucial in flexible pavement *** study used three Machine Learning(ML)models,including K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN),Extra Trees(ET),and Light Gradient Boosting Machine(LGBM),to predict SBS based on easily determinable input ***,the Grid Search technique was employed for hyper-parameter tuning of the ML models,and cross-validation and learning curve analysis were used for training the *** models were built on a database of 240 experimental results and three input variables:temperature,normal pressure,and tack coat *** validation was performed using three statistical criteria:the coefficient of determination(R2),the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE),and the mean absolute error(MAE).Additionally,SHAP analysis was also used to validate the importance of the input variables in the prediction of the *** show that these models accurately predict SBS,with LGBM providing outstanding ***(Shapley Additive explanation)analysis for LGBM indicates that temperature is the most influential factor on ***,the proposed ML models can quickly and accurately predict SBS between two layers of asphalt concrete,serving practical applications in flexible pavement structure design.

This study was aimed to prepare landslide susceptibility maps for the Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand,India,using advanced ensemble models that combined Radial Basis Function Networks(RBFN)with three ensemble learning techniques:DAGGING(DG),MULTIBOOST(MB),and ADABOOST(AB).This combination resulted in three distinct ensemble models:DG-RBFN,MB-RBFN,and ***,a traditional weighted method,Information Value(IV),and a benchmark machine learning(ML)model,Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network(MLP),were employed for comparison and *** models were developed using ten landslide conditioning factors,which included slope,aspect,elevation,curvature,land cover,geomorphology,overburden depth,lithology,distance to rivers and distance to *** factors were instrumental in predicting the output variable,which was the probability of landslide *** analysis of the models’performance indicated that the DG-RBFN model,with an Area Under ROC Curve(AUC)of 0.931,outperformed the other *** AB-RBFN model achieved an AUC of 0.929,the MB-RBFN model had an AUC of 0.913,and the MLP model recorded an AUC of *** results suggest that the advanced ensemble ML model DG-RBFN was more accurate than traditional statistical model,single MLP model,and other ensemble models in preparing trustworthy landslide susceptibility maps,thereby enhancing land use planning and decision-making.

Cost-effective CO_(2) adsorbents are gaining increasing attention as viable solutions for mitigating climate *** this study,composites were synthesized by electrochemically combining the post-gasification residue of Macadamia nut shell with copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate(CuBTC).Among the different composites synthesized,the ratio of 1:1 between biochar and CuBTC(B 1:1)demonstrated the highest CO_(2) adsorption *** controlled laboratory conditions(0°C,1 bar,without the influence of ambient moisture or CO_(2) diffusion limitations),B 1:1 achieved a CO_(2) adsorption capacity of 9.8 mmol/g,while under industrial-like conditions(25℃,1 bar,taking into account the impact of ambient moisture and CO_(2) diffusion limitations within a bed of adsorbent),it reached 6.2 mmol/*** values surpassed those reported for various advanced CO_(2) adsorbents investigated in previous *** superior performance of the B 1:1 composite can be attributed to the optimization of the number of active sites,porosity,and the preservation of the full physical and chemical surface properties of both ***,the composite exhibited a notable CO_(2)/N_(2) selectivity and improved stability under moisture *** favorable characteristics make B 1:1 a promising candidate for industrial applications.

Potential application of high pressure carbon dioxide in treated wastewater and water disinfection:Recent overview and further trends

Recently emerging disadvantages in conventional disinfection have heightened the need for finding a new solution. Developments in the use of high pressure carbon dioxide for food preservation and sterilization have led to a renewed interest in its applicability in wastewater treatment and water disinfection. Pressurized CO2 is one of the most investigated methods of antibacterial treatment and has been used extensively for decades to inhibit pathogens in dried food and liquid products. This study reviews the literature concerning the utility of CO2 as a disinfecting agent, and the pathogen inactivation mechanism of CO2 treatment is evaluated based on all available research. In this paper, it will be argued that the successful application and high effectiveness of CO2 treatment in liquid foods open a potential opportunity for its use in wastewater treatment and water disinfection. The findings from models with different operating conditions（pressure, temperature, microorganism, water content, media …） suggest that most microorganisms are successfully inhibited under CO2 treatment. It will also be shown that the bacterial deaths under CO2 treatment can be explained by many different ***, the findings in this study can help to address the recently emerging problems in water disinfection, such as disinfection by-products（resulting from chlorination or ozone treatment）.

Electromechanical admittance-based automatic damage assessment in plate structures via one-dimensional CNN-based deep learning models

The conventional admittance approach utilizing statistical evaluation metrics offers limited information about the damage location,especially when damage introduces nonlinearities in admittance *** study proposes a novel automated damage localization method for plate-like structures based on deep learning of raw admittance signals.A one-dimensional(1D)convolutional neural network(CNN)-based model is designed to automate processing of raw admittance response and prediction of damage probabilities across multiple locations in a monitored *** admittance data set is augmented with white noise to simulate realistic measurement *** K-fold cross-validation technique is employed for training and testing the *** experimental validation of the proposed method shows that the proposed method can accurately identify the state and damage location in the plate with an average accuracy of 98%.Comparing with established 1D CNN models reveals superior performance of the proposed method,with significantly lower testing *** proposed method exhibits the ability to directly handle raw electromechanical admittance responses and extract optimal features,overcoming limitations associated with traditional piezoelectric admittance *** eliminating the need for signal preprocessing,this method holds promise for real-time damage monitoring of plate structures.

This study investigates the variations of microcystins(MCs)in water,cyanobacterial blooms,sediment,and aquatic organisms collected from the Dau Tieng Reservoir(DTR).*** liquid chromatography(HPLC)was employed to measure MC concentrations in various target *** indicate that Microcystis *** as the primary MC producer in the *** average concentrations of analyzed MCs in surface water ranged from 1.10 to 5.54μg/L,temporally and *** sediment,average concentrations varied from 0.15 to 1.13μg/g wet weight(WW)temporally and from 0.41 to 0.72μg/g WW *** were detected in different organs of fish species(Oreochromis *** Labiobarbus sp.)and in the entire soft tissues of bivalve(Corbicula sp.)and gastropod(Assiminea sp.).The highest observed MC concentration in July was 0.83±0.22μg/g WW in the intestines of fish Oreochromis *** presence of MCs in grass shrimp Palaemonetes *** observed solely in June,reaching a concentration of 0.28±0.19μg/g *** is the first report of MC accumulation in the grass shrimp Palaemonetes *** field *** the bivalve Corbicula sp.,the presence of analyzed MCs was consistent throughout the study period,except for March and September,with the highest concentrations in July at 0.77±0.1μg/g *** correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations between MCs in water and sediment with MC concentrations in aquatic animals,indicating the potential transfer of MCs across different trophic *** estimated daily intake values for analyzed MCs indicate that fish collected from the DTR are considered safe for consumption,as long as only the edible organs,such as the muscle,are ***,bivalves or gastropods collected from the DTR are not safe for human *** study underscored the importance of monitoring MC accumulation in aquatic animals used as food to mitigate adverse effects on human health.
