Optimization of the Traditional Method for Creating a Weather Simulation file:The Pelotas.epw Case

The basic assumption of an energy-efficient project is the proper relation with the local climatic context.To analyse a building’s performance before its construction,it is necessary that the object to be designed is recreated in a virtual environment,to evaluate its thermal balance.In order to recreate this virtual environment,it is necessary to use computer programs,and that requires a file composed of a weather database organized hourly in a specific year and defined,in the case of this article,from a TRY(test reference year).The objective of this study is to prepare a weather file for the city of Pelotas,RS,Brazil.This research was structured in five stages.In the first stage,the TRY was determined.In the second stage,the necessary variables for the preparation of the weather file to be used in the programs EnergyPlus?and Design Builder?were created and treated.In the third stage,weather files were prepared in.epw and.try formats.In the fourth stage,the weather file generated was simulated and compared with two other weather files belonging to the same bioclimatic zone.In the fifth and last stage,a typical day was elaborated for the city of Pelotas.As a result,the importance of optimization of the EPW generation process based on algorithms was highlighted.It was also verified that although we have three nearby cities with similar characteristics,it is possible to have differences of simulation results when the appropriate weather file is not used.

The aim of the current study was to determine the nature of the seasonal variability of the Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM) fluxes from the drainage basin to the estuary in a macrotidal region(Northeastern Brazil),and the estuarine response to a seawater intrusion regarding sediment deposition,which will support the understanding of the global transport of materials at the continent-ocean interface.Thermohaline structure data was acquired using a Conductivity,Temperature,and Depth(CTD) probe with a sampling frequency of 4 Hz.Suspended particulate material was measured by gravimetric measurements applied to exact filtered volume samples.The outflows were measured through the use of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) with frequency of 1.5 MHz.The horizontal thermal and saline gradients varied from warmer and less saline waters(2014) to cooler and saline waters(2015).The gradient behavior when linked to volume transport and SPM flows,suggests a minimization of the fluvial flows in 2015,easing the advance of coastal water(CW) towards the inner estuary,leading to an inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient.The bottom saline front,generated by the entrance of coastal water masses,caused an increase in SPM concentrations due to increased fluid density,resuspension of previously deposited sediment,and erosion of banks.High concentrations of SPM indicate higher volume transport suggesting a hydraulic barrier due to the change/inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient,resulting in water and material retention.Material deposition was observed during neap tide,while during spring tide the material is resuspended,increasing the concentration,generating cycles of deposition and erosion during the neap-spring tides.The sediment in suspension that reach the estuary,even with low fluvial volume,stay in this environment forming new islands because of deposition.High deposition rates or sediment cycling,if generated by the hydraulic barrier,may indicate that the flows of SPM from the continental drainage to the e

AIM To investigate the association between 16 insertiondeletions(INDEL) polymorphisms, colorectal cancer(CRC) risk and clinical features in an admixed population.METHODS O n e h u n d re d a n d fo r ty p a t i e n t s w i t h C R C a n d 140 cancer-free subjects were examined. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples. Polymorphisms and genomic ancestry distribution were assayed by Multiplex-PCR reaction, separated by capillary electrophoresis on the ABI 3130 Genetic Analyzer instrument and analyzed on Gene Mapper ID v3.2. Clinicopathological data were obtained by consulting the patients' clinical charts, intra-operative documentation, and pathology scoring.RESULTS Logistic regression analysis showed that polymorphism variations in IL4 gene was associated with increased CRC risk, while TYMS and UCP2 genes were associated with decreased risk. Reference to anatomical localization of tumor Del allele of NFKB1 and CASP8 were associated with more colon related incidents than rectosigmoid. In relation to the INDEL association with tumor node metastasis(TNM) stage risk, the Ins alleles of ACE, HLAG and TP53(6 bp INDEL) were associated with higher TNM stage. Furthermore, regarding INDEL association with relapse risk, the Ins alleles of ACE, HLAG, and UGT1A1 were associated with early relapse risk, as well as the Del allele of TYMS. Regarding INDEL association with death risk before 10 years, the Ins allele of SGSM3 and UGT1A1 were associated with death risk.CONCLUSION The INDEL variations in ACE, UCP2, TYMS, IL4, NFKB1, CASP8, TP53, HLAG, UGT1A1, and SGSM3 were associated with CRC risk and clinical features in an admixed population. These data suggest that this cancer panel might be useful as a complementary tool for better clinical management, and more studies need to be conducted to confirm these findings.

Background:The breast cancer has been the most common form of cancer among women.The triple negative subtype represents 20%of all breast cancer cases in the world and is standing out by affecting young women and being aggressive.The main cause of death of patients with cancer is due to metastasis,which can reach the liver and lungs.Objective:The activities of ID7 fraction of the stems of Bauhinia variegata L.on breast cancer,lung metastasis and liver inflammatory process were evaluated.Method:ID7 was characterized by mass-spectrometry.The viability of murine mammary cells(4T1)treated with ID7 was assessed by MTT,trypan blue and fluorescence assay and viability of BT-20,MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 human breast cancer tumor lines by MTS.The cell migration,invasion using matrigel and adhesion were performed.The expression of cell death proteins was quanitified by western blot and the gelatinases by zimogram.The ID7 activity of the tumor(4T1)and metastatic progession in vivo was evaluated.Results:ID7 reduced the 4T1 and MDA-MB-231viability and increased the late apoptosis,inhibited the 4T1 migration and invasion,increased the 4T1 adhesion and decreased the secreted active gelatinases.ID7 also increased the expression of PARP,caspase-7 and caspase-8,RIP and TNF-R1.In vivo,the ID7 decreased the volume and weight of the tumors and decreased lung metastasis and inflammation in the liver.The characterization showed mainly the presence of oleic acid,myricetin,quercetin and kaempferol in ID7.Conclusion:Thus,it was found that ID7 fraction exhibits selective antitumor and on the mechanisms of breast cancer metastasis activity,preventing lung metastasis and inflammation in the liver.It is suggested that fatty acids and flavonoids are correlated with such activities.

Background:In recent years there has been changes in the social and geographic profile of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS).The aim of this study was to evaluate the internalization of AIDS in the state of Rondônia,Brazil.Findings:In Rondônia,1473 AIDS cases were reported,with an average annual incidence of 15.8/100,000 persons(42.7%women).The most common mode of viral transmission was sexual(96.5%),and the majority of the individuals had not completed their primary education(64.8%).There was heterogeneity in relation to case distribution,involving almost all of the municipalities in the state.The average annual mortality rate was 2.5/100,000 persons.Conclusion:Rondônia has a higher incidence of AIDS than the national average and the northern region.Efforts to provide access to treatment and follow-up of these individuals should be implemented,prioritizing areas where the incidence is higher and decentralizing the treatment of patients with AIDS in the state.

Objective: As isolates of Cryptococcus are frequently kept collection stocks in institutions, sometimes without proper characterization, we sought to determine the genotype profiles, protease and phospholipase activities “in vitro” and the susceptibility testing for azoles and amphotericin B. Methodology: 84 isolates from several regions of Brazil (40 samples from clinical origin and 44 isolates from environmental origin) were maintained at the microorganism’s bank of the Biomedical Science Institute (ICB-USP) of the São Paulo University, in São Paulo, Brazil. This isolates was submitted fungal strains determination, DNA extraction and purification, determination of genotype by URA5 gene RFLP of CGB-positive isolates, protease and phospholipase activity and susceptibility to antifungals. Results: Of six CGB positive isolates tested by RFLP-PCR, only four presented a genomic profile consistent C. gattii species (VGII), while two other were C. neoformans (VNI and VNIII), indicating the existence of canavanine-resistante C. neoformans isolates in the culture collections. The clinical isolates secreted higher levels of phospholipase and environmental isolates but no differences were observed for the protease levels. Almost all isolates were sensible to azoles and amphotericin B. Conclusion: We point out in this research the existence of C. neoformans strains resistant to canavanine and intrinsic characteristic of C. gatti. These results demonstrate the importance to perform a detailed characterization of isolates kept in culture collections.

What is the best biological treatment for rheumatoid arthritis? A systematic review of effectiveness

AIM:To evaluate the effectiveness of the biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs(b DMARD) in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis through a systematic review of observational studies.METHODS:The studies were searched in the Pub Med,EMBASE,Cochrane Controlled Trials Register and LILACS databases(until August 2014),in the grey literature and conducted a manual search.The assessed criteria of effectiveness included the EULAR,the disease activity score(DAS),the Clinical Disease Activity Index,the Simplified Disease Activity Index,the American College of Rheumatology and the Health Assessment Questionnaire.The meta-analysis was performed with Review Manager 5.2 software using a random effects model.A total of 35 studies were included in this review.RESULTS:The participants anti-tumor necrosis factor inhibitors(TNF) nave,who used adalimumab(P = 0.0002) and etanercept(P = 0.0006) exhibited greater good EULAR response compared to the participants who used infliximab.No difference was detected between adalimumab and etanercept(P = 0.05).The participants who used etanercept exhibited greater remission according to DAS28 compared to the participants who used infliximab(P = 0.01).No differences were detected between adalimumab and infliximab(P = 0.12) or etanercept(P = 0.79).Better results were obtained with b DMARD associated with methotrexate than with b DMARD alone.The good EULAR response and DAS 28 was better for combination with methotrexate than b DMARD monotherapy(P = 0.03 e P < 0.00001).In cases of therapeutic failure,the participants who used rituximab exhibited greater DAS28 reduction compared to those who used anti-TNF agents(P = 0.0002).The participants who used etanercept achieved greater good EULAR response compared to those who did not use that drug(P = 0.007).Studies that assessed reduction of the CDAI score indicated the superiority of abatacept over rituximab(12.4 vs +1.7) and anti-TNF agents(7.6 vs 8.3).The present systematic review with meta-analysis found that relative to anti-TNF treatmentnave

Sexual Diversity and Homophobia in Health Care Services: Perceptions of Homosexual and Bisexual Population in the Cross-Cultural Theory

The provision of care by health professionals seems to be related to cultural patterns in which these workers are inserted. The relationship between culture and care becomes a challenge for the provision of health care to homosexual and bisexual population. Thus, this study aimed to identify the perception of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgenders in relation to the care received from health professionals, in the light of Cross-Cultural Theory. This is a qualitative, ethnographic study, conducted with 30 members of sexual minorities in Juazeiro do Norte, Brazil. The data analysis lead to the elaboration of five categories based on of the Theory of Cultural Care Diversity and Universality. The participants emphasized the constant violation of their rights to universal and equitable access to the National Health System, stating that they have suffered from prejudice and exclusion, as result of a heteronormative culture. They highlighted that homophobia and dehumanization of care have a strong relation to sexual orientation. The transvestites are the most prone to humiliation and pejorative attitudes of professionals and such condition is a barrier to accessing services.

Tibolone Reverses NAFLD in Ovariectomised Rats by Reducing Adiposity and Insulin Resistance

This study aimed to investigate the effects of tibolone,a synthetic steroid,on several metabolic dysfunctions induced by oestrogen deficiency,in rats.Ovariectomised(OVX)rats were used as animal model of postmenopausal metabolic syndrome.The OVX rats were treated with daily doses of tibolone(0.16 mg/kg)and the results were compared with control(sham-operated)and OVX untreated rats.Tibolone reduced the adiposity and the visceral adipocyte size in OVX rats.The insulin sensitivity was also improved,and a decrease in the activity of the adipose tissue hormone-sensitive lipase enzyme was recorded.The lower lipolysis by visceral adipocytes,associated with the recovery of peroxisomalβ-oxidation by tibolone may have contributed to the reversion of NAFLD in treated OVX rats.The reduction of liver lipid contents resulted in a general improvement in the liver redox state.In addition,tibolone reduced the mitochondrial ROS generation and restored the activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.Tibolone also exerted antioxidant effects on inguinal adipose tissue.Tibolone exerted several beneficial effects on cellular and metabolic dysfunctions induced by ovariectomy in rats.One important mode of action of tibolone was the reduction of the visceral adipocyte size,corroborating the relationship between this one and the development and progression of several comorbidities associated with metabolic syndrome.

The aim of this work was to estimate the adaptability and stability of grain yield per hectare and percentage of crude protein of maize grains combined in an index, and to establish a multicharacter selection through mixed models based on an objective character and 15 auxiliary traits. The trials were conducted in the 2013/2014 agricultural year in four growing environments of the Rio Grande do Sul, BR state. The experimental design was randomized blocks arranged in a factorial scheme, being four growing sites × 15 single cross maize hybrids, arranged in three repetitions. The genotypic index, composed by the grain yield and the crude protein percentage in the grains, is the best selection strategy to achieve maize superior genotypes. The multivariate genotypes selection, considering grain yield and crude protein, is efficient. The genotypes FORMULA TL®, AS1656PRO®, P30F53Hx®, LG6304YG®and 30F53 are more adapted and stable for grain yield and percentage of crude protein, in the conditions of this study.
