Fitting a Probability Distribution to Extreme Precipitation for a Limited Mountain Area in Vietnam

In this paper, an analysis of adapted 20 extreme precipitation indices is calculated for a limited mountain area in southern Vietnam. the daily precipitation data from four stations in the period of more than 30 years are selected. the statistical characteristics of maximum, minimum, mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtoris for each index are also analysed. A variety of distributions such as Normal, Lognormal, Beta, Gamma, Exponential, Loglogistic, and Johnson is used to find the best fit probability distribution for this area on the basic of the highest score. the scores are estimated based on the ranking of statistical goodness of fit test. the goodness of fit tests is the Anderson-Darling and Shapiro-Wilks tests. the best fit distribution for each index of extreme precipitation at each station is found out. Results revealed that the Johnson distribution is the best fit distribution to the data of very heavy precipitation days greater than 50 mm. Over a limited mountain area, it is difficult to fit a probability distribution to the precipitation fraction due to extremely wet days, number of extremely wet days, and number of extremely wet days when precipitation greater than 99 percentage. the lognormal, Johnson, and Loglogistic distribution are the best choices to fit most of the extreme precipitation indices over this area.

the relationship between the severity of dengue infection and allergy is still obscure. We conducted an electronic search across 12 databases for relevant articles reporting allergic symptoms, dengue infection, and dengue classification. these studies were categorized according to dengue severity and allergy symptoms, and a meta-analysis was performed by pooling the studies in each category. Among the included 57 articles, pruritus was the most common allergic sign followed by non-specified allergy and asthma(28.6%, 13%, and 6.5%, respectively). Despite the reported significant association of dengue with pruritus and total Ig E level(P \ 0.05), in comparison with non-dengue cases and healthy controls, there was no association between the different severe dengue group with pruritus, skin allergy, food allergy or asthma. However,removing the largest study revealed a significant association between asthma with dengue hemorrhagic fever(DHF) rather than dengue fever(DF). In comparison with DF, DHF was associated with Ig E positivity. Furthermore, specific-Ig E level was higher in secondary DF rather than primary DF. there was a possible association between allergy symptoms and dengue severity progression. Further studies are needed to clarify this association.

Stable Vertical Takeoff of an Insect-Mimicking Flapping-Wing System Without Guide Implementing Inherent Pitching Stability

We briefly summarized how to design and fabricate an insect-mimicking flapping-wing system and demonstrate how to implement inherent pitching stability for stable vertical takeoff. the effect of relative locations of the Center of Gravity （CG） and the mean Aerodynamic Center （AC） on vertical flight was theoretically examined through static force balance considera- tion. We conducted a series of vertical takeoff tests in which the location of the mean AC was determined using an unsteady Blade Element theory （BET） previously developed by the authors. Sequential images were captured during the takeoff tests using a high-speed camera. the results demonstrated that inherent pitching stability for vertical takeoff can be achieved by controlling the relative position between the CG and the mean AC of the flapping system.

K-Ar Dating of Fault Gouges from the Red River Fault Zone of Vietnam

Constraining the timing of fault zone formation is fundamentally important in terms of geotectonics to understand structural evolution and brittle fault *** paper presents the first authigenic illite K-Ar age data from fault gouge samples collected from the Red River Shear Zone at Lao Cai province,*** fault gouge samples were separated into three grain-size fractions（〈0.1 μm,0.1-0.4 μm and 0.4-1.0 μm）.the results show that the K-Ar age values decrease from coarser to finer grain fractions（24.1 to 19.2 Ma）,suggesting enrichment in finer fraction of morerecently grown authigenic *** timing of the fault movement are the lower intercept ages at 0%detrital illite（19.2 ± 0.92 Ma and 19.4 ± 0.49 Ma）.In combination with previous geochronological data,this result indicates that the metamorphism of the Day Nui Con Voi（DNCV） metamorphic complex took place before ca.26.8 *** about 26.8 Ma-25 Ma,the fault strongly acted to cause the rapid exhumation of the rocks along the Red River-Ailoa Shan Fault Zone（RR-ASFZ）.During brittle deformation,the DNCV slowly uplifted,implying weak movement of the *** brittle deformation might have lasted for ca.5 Ma.

the groundwater potential map is an important tool for a sustainable water management and land use planning,particularly for agricultural countries like *** this article,we proposed new machine learning ensemble techniques namely AdaBoost ensemble(ABLWL),Bagging ensemble(BLWL),Multi Boost ensemble(MBLWL),Rotation Forest ensemble(RFLWL)with Locally Weighted Learning(LWL)algorithm as a base classifier to build the groundwater potential map of Gia Lai province in *** this study,eleven conditioning factors(aspect,altitude,curvature,slope,Stream transport Index(STI),Topographic Wetness Index(TWI),soil,geology,river density,rainfall,land-use)and 134 wells yield data was used to create training(70%)and testing(30%)datasets for the development and validation of the *** statistical indices were used namely Positive Predictive Value(PPV),Negative Predictive Value(NPV),Sensitivity(SST),Specificity(SPF),Accuracy(ACC),Kappa,and Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)curve to validate and compare performance of *** show that performance of all the models is good to very good(AUC:0.75 to 0.829)but the ABLWL model with AUC=0.89 is the *** the models applied in this study can support decision-makers to streamline the management of the groundwater and to develop economy not only of specific territories but also in other regions across the world with minor changes of the input parameters.
