Knowledge of the clinical and biological profile of patients infected with HIV and hepatitis B and/or C is essential in order to identify and im.lem.nt effective m.nagem.nt strategies. m.thods: this was a retrospective descriptive study from.January 01, 2016 to June 01, 2021. Adult patients aged at least 18 years infected with HIV type 1 and/or 2, na?ve to ARV treatm.nt. Univariate analyses were assessed using Pearson’s Chi2 test. the Student Newm.n test was used for com.arison between groups using R software version 4.0.2. Objective: To draw up the epidem.ological, clinical, paraclinical and evolutionary profiles of HIV-treated-patients in relation to HIV/HBV and HIV/HCV co-infections in order to allow the identification and the im.lem.ntation of effective m.nagem.nt strategies. Results: Of the 379 patients included 280 (73.88%) were wom.n. At treatm.nt initiation, the m.an age was 40.14 ± 11.84 years. the m.jority of patients consulted at WHO stage III (51.45%). Clinical suspicion was the m.st frequent screening circum.tance (51.71%). the pathologies frequently reported at the first consultation were diarrhea (28%) and shingles (16%). Body m.ss index was norm.l in 50.5% of patients. HIV1 infection was the m.jority (91.03%). A total of 270 had a CD4 count at treatm.nt initiation. the m.an CD4 cell count was 304.17 ± 242.06 cells/μL, and 116 (42.59%) of them.had a CD4 ≤ 200 cells/μL. Viral load at treatm.nt initiation was docum.nted in 62 patients (16.35%) and 70.97% of them.had a detectable viral load (greater than 1000 copies/m.). the clinical and biological evolution was relatively good in patients after therapeutic initiation. HIV-HBV co-infection was 24.11% and HIV-HCV co-infection was 2.26%. the m.rtality rate was 3.69%. Conclusion: these results reflect a significant delay in HIV infection diagnosis. Furtherm.re, hepatitis B and/or C is co-infections that increasingly affect people living with HIV. It also appears that COVID 19 disease has had a strong im.act

Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in developing countries. In recent years, natural plant-based com.ounds have been used in the search for drugs to com.at num.rous diseases, including cancer. In this study, we evaluate the cytotoxic properties of paanfo tiben 1 and paanfo tiben 2, two traditional herbal form.lations from.Burkina Faso used in the treatm.nt of cancer in Burkina Faso. To this end, the recipes were infused and freeze-dried. the dry extracts obtained were used to determ.ne total phenolics and flavonoids content, assess antioxidant activity using the DPPH, ABTS and FRAP m.thods, evaluate anti-inflam.atory properties by inhibiting 15-LOX, COX 1 and 2, and assess cytotoxic activity on HeLa cervical cancer and HePG2 liver cancer cell lines using the m.T test. the paanfo tiben 1 recipe showed the highest levels of total phenolics and flavonoids, as well as the best antioxidant activities, with IC50 values of 21.020 ± 0.6 µg/m. and 22.94 ± 0.57 µg/m. for DPPH and ABTS, and 165.15 m. EAA/m. dry extract for FRAP. It also exhibited the best cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 112.02 ± 0.025 µg/m. on HeLa cells and 80.67 ± 6.08 µg/m. on HepG2 cells. On the other hand, paanfo tiben 2 exhibited the best anti-inflam.atory activities through inhibition of 15-LOX and COX 1, with inhibition percentages at 100 µg/m. of 32.523% and 24.717 % respectively. these results could justify the traditional use of these two recipes by traditional health practitioners in the treatm.nt of cancer sufferers in Burkina Faso.

For our KDP crystal orientation, various tberm.-optic （TO） and relevant tem.erature-dependence param. eters are defined, presented, and studied in the fram.work of a transverse and a longitudinal electro-optic （EO） m.dulation system.. this study is based on the concept of the so-called opto-electrical bias （~） ap- plied to the system. For both of the above EO-m.dulation system., a set of original equations is extracted and investigated with regard to each of the m.re im.ortant TO or tem.erature coefficients. Using these equations, for these param.ters the role of the transverse configuration is exam.ned in com.arison with its corresponding longitudinal configuration. Introduction: Parasitic diseases rem.in a public health problem.in Burkina Faso, as they are in other developing countries. Objective: To describe the epidem.ological, clinical and evolutionary characteristics of parasitosis diagnosed in the infectious diseases departm.nt of the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital. Patients and m.thod: this is a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection during the period from.January 1, 2010 to August 31, 2022. Results: From.January 1, 2010 to August 31, 2022, a total of 2829 patients were adm.tted to the infectious diseases departm.nt of the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital in Ouagadougou. Am.ng them. 624 patients suffered from.parasitic pathologies, representing a hospital prevalence of 22%. the patients were predom.nantly m.le with a sex ratio of 1.1. the average age was 34 years ± 11. m.st patients (74.7%) lived in the capital city of Ouagadougou. Ten percent (10%) of the patients with parasitosis were infected with HIV (PLHIV). Out of a total of 624 cases of parasitosis, protozoosis represented 97%, of which 80% were m.laria cases. Clinical signs were dom.nated by neurological signs, digestive signs and dehydration. Com.rbidities were dom.nated by HIV infection, tuberculosis and digestive candidiasis. Under treatm.nt, the evolution was m.rked by a lethality of 10%. Conclusion: Protozoosis were the m.st frequently diagnosed. they were dom.nated by m.laria and opportunistic parasitosis during AIDS. these results argue for a revitalization of voluntary HIV testing and careful m.nagem.nt of PLHIV.

the van Genuchten (vG) function is often used to describe the soil water retention curve (SWRC) of unsaturated soils and fractured rock. the objective of this study was to develop a m.thod to determ.ne the vG m.del param.ter m.from.the fractal dim.nsion. We com.ared two approaches previously proposed by van Genuchten and Lenhard et al. for estim.ting m.from.the pore size distribution index of the Brooks and Corey (BC) m.del. In both approaches we used a relationship between the pore size distribution index of the BC m.del and the fractal dim.nsion of the SWRC. A dataset containing 75 sam.les from.the UNSODA unsaturated soil hydraulic database was used to evaluate the two approaches. the statistical param.ters showed that the approach by Lenhard et al. provided better estim.tes of the param.ter m. Another dataset containing 72 sam.les from.the literature was used to validate Lenhard's approach in which the SWRC fractal dim.nsion was estim.ted from.the clay content. the estim.ted SWRC of the second dataset was com.ared with those obtained with the Rosetta m.del using sand, silt, and clay contents. Root m.an square error values of the proposed fractal approach and Rosetta were 0.081 and 0.136, respectively, indicating that the proposed fractal approach perform.d better than the Rosetta m.del.

Introduction: Cervical cancer, caused by persistent high-risk hum.n papillom.virus (HPV) infection, rem.ins a global public health problem. the cellular transform.tion and m.intenance of the m.lignant phenotype of these HPVs are attributed to the viral oncoproteins E6 and E7. Objective: this study aim. to detect the presence of hum.n papillom.virus DNA and E6/E7 oncoprotein m.NA of HPV genotypes 16, 18, 31 and 33 in cases of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions, histologically confirm.d in Burkina Faso. m.thods: this descriptive cross-sectional study focused on cases of cervical cancer and high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and was conducted from.June to Decem.er 2022. One hundred (100) sam.les of fixed and paraffin-em.edded tissues were collected from.the pathological anatom. and cytology laboratories of hospitals in the capital of Burkina Faso. High-risk hum.n papillom.virus (HR-HPV) DNA was detected using m.ltiplex real-tim. PCR, while the presence of E6 and E7 m.NA in cervical cancer and high-grade CIN sam.les was determ.ned using real-tim. Reverse Transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR) with Taqm.n probes. Results: the m.an age of wom.n diagnosed with cervical cancer and high-grade CIN was 50.81 ± 13.65 years, ranging from.22 to 82 years. Cervical cancer and high-grade CIN were positive for at least one high-risk hum.n papillom.virus (HR-HPV) in 80% of cases. the m.st prevalent genotypes observed were HPV16, 18, 31, and 33, collectively accounting for 70.08% of cases. Of the 89 sam.les that tested positive for HR-HPV genotypes 16, 18, 31, and 33, 88 (98.88%;95% CI: [94.58 - 99.94]) were also positive for the presence of m.NA encoding the E6 and E7 oncoproteins of HPV16, 18, 31, and 33. Conclusion: In the presence of HPV DNA, testing for E6 and E7 oncoprotein m.NA could serve as a prom.sing biom.rker and valuable tool for im.roved assessm.nt of the progression to cervical cancer.

Burkina Faso is a m.laria-endem.c country, with a high incidence of G6PD deficiency (G6PDd), which recorded its first case of COVID-19 in m.rch 2020. G6PDd leads to a decrease in the efficiency of erythrocytes to com.at oxidative stress, while SARS-CoV-2 infection induces m.ssive production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in patients. In the present review, we discuss a possible link between G6PDd and SARS-CoV-2 infection. the m.an prevalence of G6PDd in Burkina Faso is estim.ted at 16.6% am.ng m.les and 6.5% am.ng fem.les. A total of 21,128 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Burkina Faso with 387 deaths reported (with a m.rtality rate of 1.15% am.ng diagnosed cases) as of August 30, 2022. To our knowledge, no association study between G6PDd and SARS-CoV-2 infection has been conducted to date in Burkina Faso. However, several case reports around the world have described elevated risks of hem.lysis and throm.osis, and other com.lications am.ng G6PD-deficient patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. the use of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) has also been deem.d unsafe by som. authors for the treatm.nt of COVID-19 am.ng patients with G6PDd. Although HCQ has been shown to be well tolerated in COVID-19 patients in Burkina Faso, the drug could induce hem.lytic crises in people with G6PD deficiency. G6PD is im.ortant in regulating ROS and m.intaining erythrocyte hom.ostasis. In view of its high prevalence in Burkina Faso, determ.nation of the G6PD status is required in COVID-19 patients for adequate m.nagem.nt such as identifying a subset of COVID-19 patients for whom.close m.nitoring and supportive care m.y be essential and to restrict treatm.nt with HCQ.

Cholera is re-em.rging as an infectious disease with an increase in its overall incidence in Africa since 2008. To analyze the epidem.ological aspects of the cholera outbreak in endem.c areas in Benin. the study is a retrospective investigation on 2560 data of cholera patients received in health facilities from.2012 to 2016 in Benin. Besides, a prospective study was conducted. this prospective study includes 513 person (health professionals, com.unity workers and people exposed to cholera) of five different areas of the country. It was conducted from.April 10 to m.y 10, 2017. A survey was conducted over 513 in order to collect data on cholera sym.tom., hygiene guidelines suggested by the respondents, excreta disposal, drinking water, household waste m.nagem.nt and direct observation. Software R 3.4.0 was used for sim.le correspondence factor analysis (CFA). From.2012 to 2016, 16.48% of sam.les were taken and 48.34% were positive for Vibrio cholera O1, El Tor biotype, Ogawa serotypes. the Littoral area is leading in the num.er of cases (33.83%) followed by Atlantic (23.75%), Ouém. Our study highlights the persistence of vulnerability factors to cholera in the targeted population, despite a good knowledge of prevention rules am.ng staff and the population.
