Downward transport of stratospheric air into the troposphere(identified as stratospheric intrusions)could potentially modify the radiation budget and chemical of the Earth's surface *** the highest and largest plateau on earth,the Tibetan Plateau including the Himalayas couples to global climate,and has attracted widespread attention due to rapid warming and cryospheric *** studies recognized strong stratospheric intrusions in the Himalayas but are poorly understood due to limited direct evidences and the complexity of the meteorological dynamics of the third ***^(35)S is a radioactive isotope predominately produced in the lower stratosphere and has been demonstrated as a sensitive chemical tracer to detect stratospherically sourced air mass in the planetary boundary ***,we report 6-month(April–September 2018)observation of^(35)S in atmospheric sulfate aerosols(^(35)SO_(4)^(2-))collected from a remote site in the Himalayas to reveal the stratospheric intrusion phenomenon as well as its potential impacts in this *** the sampling campaign,the^(35)SO_(4)^(2-)concentrations show an average of 1,070±980 atoms/m^(3).In springtime,the average is 1,620±730 atoms/m^(3),significantly higher than the global existing data measured so *** significant enrichments of^(35)SO_(4)^(2-)measured in this study verified the hypothesis that the Himalayas is a global hot spot of stratospheric intrusions,especially during the springtime as a consequence of its unique geology and atmospheric *** combined with the ancillary evidences,e.g.,oxygen-17 anomaly in sulfate and modeling results,we found that the stratospheric intrusions have a profound impact on the surface ozone concentrations over the study region,and potentially have the ability to constrain how the mechanisms of sulfate oxidation are affected by a change in plateau atmospheric properties and *** study provides new observational constraints on stra

BACKGROUND A Sister Mary Joseph nodule(SMJN)is an uncommon cutaneous metastasis found in the umbilicus,indicating an advanced *** typically originate from intra-abdominal sources,rarely from breast *** suggests a poor prognosis with a median survival of approximately 8 mo after *** patients with SMJNs is challenging,as most receive limited palliative care *** optimal strategy for long-term survival of these patients remains *** SUMMARY A 58-year-old female,previously diagnosed with right breast cancer 17 years ago and underwent breast-conserving surgery,adjuvant radiotherapy,and endocrine therapy,presented with a 2-cm umbilical *** years previously,metastases were detected in the right supraclavicular,infraclavicular,hilar,and mediastinal lymph *** umbilical nodule emerged four years before the date of presentation,confirmed as a skin metastasis of primary breast cancer upon excisional *** initial removal,the nodule recurred and grew,leading to her referral to our *** patient underwent extensive excision of the umbilical tumor and immediate abdominal wall *** therapy was continued *** years later,no local recurrence was observed,and the patient continued to work full-time,achieving over 9 years of survival following SMJN *** This case study aimed to identify the optimal strategy for achieving extended survival outcomes in patients with SMJN through comprehensive *** presented a case of the longest survival in a patient after undergoing a multidisciplinary treatment *** findings underscore the significance of adopting a multimodal treatment approach comprising timely and wide excision along with adjunctive *** approach can control the disease,prolong survival,and improve the quality of life in patients with SMJN.

The relativistic heavy-ion collisions create both hot quark–gluon matter and strong magnetic fields, and provide an arena to study the interplay between quantum chromodynamics and quantum electrodynamics. In recent years, it has been shown that such an interplay can generate a number of interesting quantum phenomena in hadronic and quark–gluon matter. In this short review, we first discuss some properties of the magnetic fields in heavy-ion collisions and then give an overview of the magnetic fieldinduced novel quantum effects. In particular, we focus on the magnetic effect on the heavy flavor mesons, the heavyquark transports, and the phenomena closely related to chiral anomaly.

Detection of Adhesion Molecules on Inflamed Macrophages at Early-Stage Using SERS Probe Gold Nanorods

In recent years, it has been shown that inflammatory biomarkers can be used as an effective signal for disease diagnoses. The early detection of these signals provides useful information that could prevent the occurrence of severe diseases. Here, we employed surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) probe gold nanorods(GNRs) as a tool for the early detection of inflammatory molecules in inflamed cells. A murine macrophage cell line(Raw264.7) stimulated with lipopolysaccharide(LPS) was used as a model in this study. The prepared SERS probe GNRs containing 4-mercaptobenzoic acid as a Raman reporter to generate SERS signals were used for detection of intracellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) in macrophages after treatment with LPS for varying lengths of time. Our results show that SERS probe GNRs could detect significant differences in the expression of ICAM-1 molecules in LPS-treated macrophages compared to those in untreated macrophages after only 1 h of LPS treatment. In contrast, when using fluorescent labeling or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA) to detect ICAM-1, significant differences between inflamed and un-inflamed macrophages were not seen until the cells had been treated with LPS for 5 h. These results indicate that our SERS probe GNRs provide a higher sensitivity for detecting biomarker molecules in inflamed macrophages than the conventional fluorescence and ELISA techniques, and could therefore be useful as a potential diagnostic tool for managing disease risk.

The rate determining step and the energy barrier involved in hydrogen adsorption on Pt/WO3- ZrO2 were studied based on the assumption that the hydrogen adsorption occurs only through Pt sites. The rate of hydrogen adsorption on Pt/WOa-ZrO2 was measured in the adsorption temperature range of 323-573 K and an initial hydrogen pressure of 50 Torr. The rates of hydrogen uptake were very high for the initial few minutes and the adsorption continued for more than 5 h below 523 K. The hydrogen uptake far exceeded the H/Pt ratio of unity for all adsorption temperatures, indicating that the adsorption of hydrogen involved the dissociative adsorption of hydrogen on Pt sites to form hydrogen atoms, the spillover of hydrogen atoms onto the surface of the WO3-ZrO2 catalyst, the diffusion of spiltover hydrogen atom over the surface of the WO3-ZrO2 catalyst, and the formation of protonic acid site originated from hydrogen atom by releasing an electron in which the electron may react with a second hydrogen atom to form a hydride near the Lewis acid site. The rate determining step was the spillover with the activation energy of 12.3 kJ/mol. The rate of hydrogen adsorption cannot be expressed by the rate equation based on the assumption that the rate determining step is the surface diffusion. The activity of Pt/WO3-ZrO2 was examined on n-heptane isomerization in which the increase of hydrogen partial pressure provided positive-effect on the conversion of n-heptane and negative-effect on the selectivity towards iso-heptane.
