Crystalline ErCl_(3) nanowires have been fabricated in single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)with high yield(~90%),and the structural and magnetic properties of the resulting ErCl_(3) nanowires encapsulated in SWCNTs(ErCl_(3)@SWCNTs)*** under high temperature and vacuum using high quality SWCNTs results in a high fi lling-ratio of ErCl_(3) nanowires in the *** high fi lling-ratio of ErCl_(3) nanowires and the use of highly pure SWCNTs with only a small amount of residual Fe catalyst nanoparticles enabled us to observe the magnetic properties of ErCl_(3)@*** determination based on simulated annealing calculations and high-resolution transmission electron microscope(HRTEM)image simulations revealed that the structure of the ErCl_(3) nanowires is unusual with respect to the coordination environment of the Eu3+*** work opens up new possibilities to fabricate various metal complex nanowires with high yield and may also be of more general importance in understanding and exploring magnetic properties in low-dimensional magnetic systems.

A 35-year-old man was admitted due to bloody stool and anemia. The bleeding source could not be detected by esophagogastroduodenoscopy or colonoscopy. Double balloon endoscopy (DBE) revealed a diverticulum-like hole in which coagula stuck in the ileum at 1 meter on the oral side from the ileocecal valve. The adjacent mucosa just to the oral side of the hole was elevated like a submucosal tumor. The lesion was considered the source of bleeding and removed surgically. It was determined to be a cyst with an ileal structure on the mesenteric aspect accompanying gastric mucosa. The diagnosis was a duplication cyst of the ileum,which is a rare entity that can cause gastrointestinal bleeding. In the present case,DBE was used to fi nd the hemorrhagic duplication cyst in the ileum.

Catalyst-free growth of one-dimensional zinc oxide （ZnO） nanowires is reported. ZnO nanowires were synthesized on ZnO buffer layers deposited on various-oriented sapphire substrates. Syntheses of ZnO buffer layers and nanowires were performed by ultraviolet pulsed-laser deposition. ZnO nanowire＇s number density was the lowest in the case of using m-cut sapphire substrates. ZnO nanowires grown on a-cut sapphire substrates had vertical alignment with distances of tens to hundreds of nanometers. On the other hand, ZnO nanowires grown on c-cut sapphire substrates had the biggest nucleation rate. The dependence of crystalline orientation of ZnO buffer layers on the orientation of sapphire substrates were investigated by electron back scatter diffraction measurement. From their results, the growth models of ZnO buffer layers were suggested and the variations in morphological properties ofZnO nanowires were discussed.

In recent years,the environment of railways and the systems such as CBTC(communication based train control)have been *** respond the changes and the needs of customers,a UTCS(unified train control system)has been developed to realize a system that evolves with *** type systems consist of independent components such as ATC(Automatic train control)system,electronic interlocking system,and facility monitoring system,and there are a complicated overlap of system configurations and functions and difference in concept between the *** the other hand,the integrated train control system consists of horizontal layers such as function layer,network layer,and terminal ***,the system has been developed to make it simple with no unnecessary redundancy and evolving to meet the needs of *** this paper,we explain a method that realizes the interlocking function for CBTC system in the function layer based on the concept of“securing a train travelling path”including path blocking and routing,and evaluate the safety of the method using STAMP/STPA.

There have been a large number of accidents at level crossings of railways and this has been considered to be a significant issue to be solved for the realization of safe and stable railway transport.A conventional level crossing control system is characterized by the use of two types of electronic train detectors;one detects a train approaching to a level crossing section and the other then detects the train having left the level *** contrast,closed-loop level crossing control systems in which level crossing control equipment and train-borne equipment communicate with each other have been advocated and are expected to serve as an effective solution to the abovementioned *** paper describes the following three types of closed-loop level crossing control systems:decentralized level crossing control system,fully-centralized comprehensive level crossing control system and fully-centralized individual level crossing control *** paper then assesses the safety of these systems in comparison to the conventional level crossing control *** the purpose of the assessment of their safety,a new accident analysis model called STAMP(systems theoretic accident model and processes)that is suitable for software intensive systems is used to clarify the advantage of the proposed three types of level crossing control systems in terms of safety.

Determining the tectonic setting of unknown volcanic rocks continues to be one of the key challenges in *** discrimination diagrams have been successfully employed due to their ease of use,recently,validation with big data has raised questions about their *** this study,the discrimination boundaries of Th/Yb versus(vs.)Nb/Yb and TiO2/Yb ***/Yb diagrams,which are the most used types of discrimination diagrams,were redefined based on a large amount of compiled data and support vector machine,a machine learning *** effectiveness of discrimination diagrams was verified,and the limitations and conditions when using them were *** results show that when using the Th/Yb ***/Yb diagram,only basalts with Th/Yb ratios higher than the discrimination boundary can be identified as volcanic arcs in *** contrast,a significant overlap occurs across boundaries in other cases when using these diagrams,particularly for enriched samples with Nb/Yb ratios higher than ***,when using these diagrams to determine the tectonic setting of unknown samples,their limitations must be considered when interpreting their results.

Management of gastric fundal varices without gastro-renal shunt in 15 patients

AIM:To examine the portal hemodynamics of gastric fundal varices (GV) without gastro-renal shunt (GRS), and to retrospectively investigate the effects of various kinds of treatment on eradication. METHODS: Ninety-four liver cirrhosis patients at high- risk of GV were treated in our hospital and enrolled in this study. We retrospectively examined their characteristics, liver function, and portal hemodynamics of GV. We performed balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) at first. If it was not technically possible to perform BRTO, endoscopic injection sclerotherapy using α-cyanoacrylate glue (CA) or percutaneous transhepatic obliteration (PTO) was performed. RESULTS: Among the 94 patients, a GRS was present in 79 (84.0%), and absent in the remaining 15 (16.0%). The subphrenic vein was connected to the inferior vena cava as the drainage vein in 13 (86.7%) out of the 15 cases without GRS. We performed BRTO in 6 patients, CA in 4 patients and PTO in 5 patients. The eradication rate was 100% for each procedure, but the rate of early recurrence within 6 mo was 16.7% for BRTO, 50.0% for CA and 40.0% for PTO, respectively. CONCLUSION: We should examine the hemodynamics before treatment of GV irrespective of the existence of GRS. If this hemodynamic examination reveals that the drainage vein connects directly to the inferior vena cava in GV without GRS, BRTO may be an effective treatment for GV with GRS.

Temporal variation in modal properties of a base-isolated building during an earthquake

Temporal variation of dynamical modal properties of a base-isolated building is investigated using earthquake records in the building. A batch processing least-squares estimation method is applied to segment-wise time-series data. To construct an input-output system,an auto-regressive model with exogenous input (ARX) of second-order including a forgetting coefficient as a weighting coefficient is used for the estimation of modal parameters. The fundamental and second natural frequencies and the damping ratios of the fundamental and second natural modes of the base-isolated building are identified in the time domain. The identified results are consistent with the results obtained from the micro-tremor vibration data,forced-vibration test data and earthquake records in the present base-isolated building in the case of taking into account the amplitude-dependency of the isolators and viscous dampers. It is finally pointed out that several factors,e.g.,amplitude dependency of the isolator and damper system and special characteristics of the series-type viscous damper system,may be related complicatedly with the temporal variation in modal properties of the above-mentioned system.

In the past few years, a new technology, biotechnology, has come into practical use internationally. It is prospective that application of biotechnology in the field of food production may lead to improved food quality and productivity.　　Modern biotechnology, through the use of recombinant DNA techniques, has been used for food production for some time now. Therefore, particular attention should be paid to the safety of foods and food additives produced by recombinant DNA techniques. For this reason, Japan set out the “Guideline for Safety Assessment of Foods and Food Additives Produced by Recombinant DNA Techniques” and “Guideline for Manufacturing Foods and Food Additives Produced by Recombinant DNA Techniques,” in 1991.
