The present study focuses on the prediction of acoustic absorption performance of a perforated plate with air jets by theoretical calculations. In addition, we experimentally measured the flow rate, internal pressure, acoustic pressure, and transfer function using an acoustic impedance tube. The normal incidence absorption coefficient was calculated from the measured transfer function using transfer function methods. We investigated the influences of background air space, flow velocity, thickness, aperture rate, and aperture diameter of a perforated plate on the acoustic absorption characteristics. The frequency characteristics of the acoustic absorption coefficient showed a maximum value at a local frequency. As the background air space increased, the peak frequency of acoustic absorption characteristics decreased. As the flow velocity passing through the apertures increased, the peak level of the acoustic absorption coefficient also increased. The theoretical results agreed well with the experimental ones qualitatively.

Predicting the inner displacements of deep vertical shafts during the excavation process has been a difficult task considering the geological,structural,and constructional *** fact,the two-dimensional(2D)analytical solution based on the retaining wall model remains insufficient for understanding the actual behavior during an *** is because the deformation of vertical shafts becomes complicated due to the unexpected arching effect brought about by the three-dimensional(3D)flexible displacements occurring in the excavation *** analytical solutions only considered the limit ***,the present study deals with a 3D soil-structure simulation by considering the displacements of a cylindrical shaft and the mechanical behavior of the surrounding soil as well as the geometry of the cylindrical ***,this mechanical behaviors of the surrounding soil and shaft are controlled by the shaft stiffness;hence,the relationships among the shaft stiffness,mechanical behavior of the surrounding soil(in terms of earth pressure coefficient),and shaft displacement were investigated.A cylindrical model,120 m in depth and 20 m in diameter,was positioned at the center of a sand domain,and each excavation step was performed at an interval depth of 20 m.A 3D finite difference method analysis was applied using the modified Cam-Clay(MCC)model to represent the soil *** a result,the present study provides a new normalized lateral earth pressure theory for excavated shafts by considering the 3D arching effect obtained from parametric studies using various levels of shaft *** a comparison with the analytical solutions of previous studies(Terzaghi,1943a;Prater,1977;Cheng&Hu,2005),it is found that the previous studies underestimated the earth pressure acting on the cylindrical shaft because they did not consider the accurate arching effect.

The purpose of this study was to quantify the effect of the fatty acid alkyl-chain length of a polyethylene glycol(PEG)glyceryl ester,which was used as a microemulsion oil component,on the partitioning of highly lipophilic compounds to the mesenteric lymph after oral *** blue N,a highly lipophilic anthraquinone derivative,was orally administered to lymph duct-cannulated and untreated rats in two kinds of different ***®50/13 and Gelucire®44/14 were used as the oil component with long chain and medium chain fatty acid portions,respectively,of PEG glyceryl esters in *** cumulative amount of oil blue N in lymph fluid was almost the same between the two microemulsions,although the transferred amount of oil component(triglyceride)in the lymph after administration of the Gelucire®50/13 microemulsion was significantly higher than that of the Gelucire®44/14 *** the other hand,the solubility of oil blue N in Gelucire®44/14 was much higher than that in Gelucire®50/*** significant differences were observed between microemulsions in the bioavailability of oil blue *** these data,the partitioning of oil blue N to the lymph was calculated using a mathematical model,showing that the partitioning ratios of oil blue N to the lymph fluid were almost the same for both *** solubility of oil blue N to the oil component of the microemulsions and the transfer of triglycerides to the lymph after administration of the microemulsions counteract each other,leading to similar partitioning ratios of oil blue N to the lymph.

Biomimetic Riblets Inspired by Sharkskin Denticles： Digitizing, Modeling and Flow Simulation

While sharkskin surface roughness in terms of denticle morphology has been hypothesized but remains yet controversial to be capable of achieving turbulent flow control and drag reduction, sharkskin-inspired ＂riblets＂ have been reported to be an effective biomimetic design. Here we address an integrated study of biomimetic riblets inspired by sharkskin denticles by combining 3D digitizing and mod- eling of＂fresh＂ denticles and computational fluid dynamic modeling of turbulent flows on a rough surface with staggered denticles and hound-tooth-patterned grooves. Realistic microstructures of denticles in five shark species of Galapagos, great white, whitetip reef, blacktip reef, and hammerhead sharks were first measured and digitized in three fold：（1） 2D imaging of lubricated sharkskin in a wet state by means of a ＂nano-suit＂ technique with a Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscope （FE-SEM）; （2） 3D structures of sharkskin denticles with a micro-focus X-ray CT; and （3） single denticles of the five shark species in a 3D manner with 3D-CAD. The denticles at mid-body location in the five species were observed to have a structure of five non-uniform-ridges （herein termed ＂non-uniform grooves＂） with Angles Of Inclination （AOI） ranging over 20° - 32°. Hydrodynamics associated with the unique five-ridge denticles were then in- vestigated through modeling turbulent flow past a denticle-staggered skin surface. We further constructed a biomimetic riblet model inspired by the non-uniform grooves and investigated the hydrodynamic effects of height-to-spacing ratios of mid-ridge and side-ridges. Our results indicate that the morphological non-uniformity in sharkskin denticles likely plays a critical role in passively controlling local turbulent flow and point to the potential of denticle-inspired biomimetic riblets for turbulent-flow control in aquatic vehicles as well as other fluid machinery.

In design phases, expansion joints are required to have movement capacity, bearing capacity for static and dynamic loading, watertight, low noise emission and traffic safety. On the basis of the fact that failure due to dynamic loading is the main reason for the observed damages, attention is focused on the bearing capacity for dynamic loading governed by impact, because it differs from the static loading. In this study, from the viewpoint of durability, experimental studies for dynamic behavior were conducted for aluminium alloy expansion joints with perforated dowels. The validity of the perforated dowels against traffic impact loading was confirmed by both experimental and numerical studies.

The non-carbothermic zinc pyrometallurgical processing of electric arc furnace(EAF) dust was investigated on a laboratory scale. The main objective of this process was to convert highly stable zinc ferrite(Zn Fe2O4), which accounts for more than half of total zinc in the EAF dust, into Zn O and Ca2Fe2O5 by Ca O addition. The EAF dust was mixed with Ca O powder in various ratios, pressed into pellets, and heated in a muffle furnace in air at temperatures ranging from 700 to 1100°C for a predetermined holding time. All Zn Fe2O4 was transformed into Zn O and Ca2Fe2O5 at a minimum temperature of 900°C within 1 h when sufficient Ca O to achieve a Ca/Fe molar ratio of 1.1 was added. However, at higher temperatures, excess Ca O beyond the stoichiometric ratio was required because it was consumed by reactions leading to the formation of compounds other than Zn Fe2O4. The evaporation of halides and heavy metals in the EAF dust was also studied. These components could be preferentially volatilized into the gas phase at 1100°C when Ca O was added.

Quantitative determination of erlotinib in human serum using competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay

A selective and sensitive competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) method was developed and validated for the quantification of erlotinib in 50 mL of samples of human serum. Anti-erlotinib serum was obtained by immunizing mice with an antigen conjugated with bovine serum albumin and 3,4-bis(2-methoxyethoxy)benzoic acid using the N-succinimidyl ester method. Enzyme labeling of erlotinib with horseradish peroxidase was similarly performed using 3,4-bis(2-methoxyethoxy)benzoic acid. A simple competitive ELISA for erlotinib was developed using the principle of direct competition between erlotinib and the enzyme marker for anti-erlotinib antibody, which had been immobilized on the plastic surface of a microtiter plate. Serum erlotinib concentrations lower than 40 ng/mL were reproducibly measurable using the ELISA. This ELISA was specific to erlotinib and showed very slight cross-reactivity(6.7%) with a major metabolite, O-desmethyl erlotinib. Using this assay, drug levels were easily measured in the blood of mice after oral administration of erlotinib at a single dose of 30 mg/kg. ELISA should be used as a valuable tool for therapeutic drug monitoring and in pharmacokinetic studies of erlotinib.
