Basic Research on the Burden of Dropping off and Picking up Children: Differences by Employment Type and Gender in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area

There is a need to reduce the burden of child drop-off and pick-up for child-rearing generations, but most studies on the actual situation in Japan are based on survey results. In this study, we analyzed differences in child drop-off and pick-up by employment type and gender, utilizing the “Metropolitan Area Person Trip Survey,” which is a statistical data set. The study targeted households in which both spouses were between 30 and 49 years old, had children under the age of 6, and included the following three groups. 1) Dual-income Group 1 (both spouses employed/on contract/temporary);2) Dual-income Group 2 (husband employed/on contract/temporary, wife part-time);3) Full-time housewife group (husband employed, wife unemployed). The analysis revealed that a) wives are almost always responsible for dropping off and picking up their children;b) husbands drop off and pick up their children less frequently in dual-income households;and c) households with children raising within 10 to 30 km of Tokyo Station have longer commuting times and need to reduce the burden of dropping off and picking up their children.

Anti-Obesity Effects of Dietary d-Allulose and Medium-Chain Triglycerides in High-Fat Diet-Fed Rats

d-Allulose, a rare sugar, exerts anti-obesity effects by inhibiting hepatic lipogenesis and promoting energy expenditure. Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) consist of three medium-chain fatty acids connected by glycerol. MCTs have been extensively investigated for their ability to reduce body fat accumulation. We previously investigated the anti-obesity effects of a combination of dietary d-allulose and MCT (5% - 13%) in rats;however, we could not confirm the anti-obesity effects of MCT or observed synergetic effects between d-allulose and MCT on body fat loss. We speculated that our previous studies were influenced by the excessive amount of MCT in the diets. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the anti-obesity effects of the simultaneous intake of d-allulose and MCT in rats fed an obesity-inducing high-fat diet with a low amount of MCTs (2%). Thirty-two male Wistar rats (3-week-old) were randomly divided into four groups: control, d-allulose, MCT, and d-allulose + MCT groups. Rats in each group were fed ad libitum on a control (no d-Allulose or MCT), 5% d-allulose, 2% MCT, or 5% d-allulose + 2% MCT diets for 16 weeks. Abdominal adipose tissue weights were significantly lower in the d-allulose diet group than in the control group, whereas no differences were observed between results of the MCT-supplemented groups. The total body fat mass was significantly lower in the d-allulose and MCT diet groups than in the control group, but no differences were observed between the MCT-supplemented groups. These results suggested that anti-obesity effects of dietary d-allulose were observed, and the effects of dietary MCTs were weaker than those of d-allulose. Moreover, we confirmed the interaction between dietary d-allulose and MCT on indicators of obesity. Interestingly, their effects were not synergistic, as MCT supplementation offset the anti-obesity effects of dietary d-allulose. 自1970年代以来,新自由主义伴随着全球化的进程从欧美向全球蔓延,日本的城市政策也深受其影响。本文首先提出一个假说,即日本新自由主义的城市政策造成了东京的极化与分化现象。通过国土尺度的分析,笔者观察到自2000年新自由主义成为日本主流城市政策后,东京的单极化趋势明显加速;城市尺度的空间与政策分析结果则反映了东京内部的城市分化日益显著。本文的分析检验并支撑了本文所提假说的有效性,同时证明了东京都政府和各区政府的城市政策与区域绅士化之间存在很强的相关性。本文呼吁,城市规划相关政策应从新自由主义式转向区域协作型,并从大规模城市再开发导向转变为渐进式城市更新导向。在后新自由主义的当下,本文为中国规划理论的范式转型提供了一种路径思考。

After briefly reviewing the theoretical concepts and numerical methods in lattice QCD, recent sireulation results of the hadron masses and hadron interactions with nearly physical quark masses are presented. Special emphasis is placed on the baryon-baryon interactions on the basis of the HAL QCD method where the integro-differential equation for the equal-time Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter amplitude plays a key role to bridge a gap between the multi-baryon correlation and the scattering observable such as the phase shift.

2,6-Dimethoxyphenol (DMP) as a substrate was widely used in determination of laccase activity. It is surprising, however, that its catalyzed oxidation products have not been completely determined until now. Studies were thus conducted on Rhus laccase (RL) and immobilized Rhus laccase (IRL)-catalyzed oxidation reactions of 2,6-dimethoxyphenol in water-organic solvent systems. These reactions proceeded well in water-(im)miscible organic solvent systems pre-saturated with water. The first-principles calculation of the disordered Ll0 phase boundary for the Fe-Pd system is attempted by combining the FLAPW electronic structure total energy calculations and the cluster variation method via the cluster expansion method. The lattice vibration effects are taken into account based on the Debye-Gruneisen model within quasi-harmonic approximation. The transition temperature is reproduced with very high accuracy. However, the experimental congruent composition of disordered L10 phase that significantly deviates from 1.＂ 1 stoichiometry is not reproduced. Fulther calculations are attempted based on the phenomenological Lennard-Jones type pair potential, which is capable of introducing both tetragonality of the Ll0 ordered phase and additional configurational freedom because of the magnetic spins. The prelimi- nary calculations indicate that the tetragonality enhances the stability of the L10 ordered phase and the magnetic contributions also change the transition temperature. Despite these findings, the shift of the congruent composition still remains as a subject that needs further research. The electronic origin of the shifting of the congruent composition is briefly discussed.

A simple one step synthesis of pinoresinol and its derivatives-active components of Du-Zhong(Eu-commia ulmoides) -from coniferyl alcohol and p-courmaryl alcohol with higher yields was achieved by Rhus laccases(RL) catalysis in water miscible organic solvents. Biomacromolecules dehydro-genative polymers(DHP) were only synthesized by fungal laccases,not by RL. The structures and the reaction mechanism were discussed to promote the understanding of the function of laccases in the process of lignin biosynthesis.

Theoretical investigation of the phase equilibria of the Fe-Ni alloy has been performed by combining the FLAPW total energy calculations and the Cluster Variation Method through the Cluster Expansion Method. The calculations have proved the stabilization of the LIE phase at 1：3 stoichiometry, which is in agreement with the experimental result, and predicted the existence of L1 0 as a stable phase below 550 K; this L1 0 phase has been missing in the conventional phase diagram. The calculations are extended to the Fe-rich region that is characterized by a wide range phase separation and has drawn considerable attention because of the intriguing Invar property associated with a Fe concentration of 65%. To reveal the origin of the phase separation, a P-V curve in an entire concentration range is derived by the second derivative of free energy functional of the disordered phase with respect to the volume. The calculation confirmed that the phase separation is caused by the breakdown of the mechanical-stability criterion. The newly calculated phase separation line combined with the L1 0 and L12Eorder-disordered phase boundaries provides phase equilibria in the wider concentration range of the system. Furthermore, a coefficient of thermal expansion （CTE） is attempted by incorporating the thermal vibration effect through harmonic approximation of the Debye-Gruneisen model. The Invar behavior has been reproduced, and the origin of this anomalous volume change has been discussed.
