KMAP-O framework for care management research of patients with type 2 diabetes

AIM To review impacts of interventions involving self-management education, health coaching, and motivational interviewing for type 2 diabetes. METHODS A thorough review of the scientific literature on diabetes care and management was executed by a research team. RESULTS This article summarizes important findings in regard to the validity of developing a comprehensive behavioral system as a framework for empirical investigation. The behavioral system framework consists of patients' knowledge(K), motivation(M), attitude(A), and practice(P) as predictor variables for diabetes care outcomes(O). Care management strategies or health education programs serve as the intervention variable that directly influences K, M, A, and P and then indirectly affects the variability in patient care outcomes of patients with type 2 diabetes. CONCLUSION This review contributes to the understanding of the KMAP-O framework and how it can guide the care management of patients with type 2 diabetes. It will allow the tailoring of interventions to be more effective through knowledge enhancement, increased motivation, attitudinal changes, and improved preventive practice to reduce the progression of type 2 diabetes and comorbidities. Furthermore, the use of health information technology for enhancing changes in KMAP and communications is advocated in health promotion and development.

Objective:To determine the prevalence of viral haemoparasites in prospective Nigerian blood ***:Ethical clearance was obtained and informed consent questionnaires were distributed to blood donors to obtain their demographical data.A total of 186 blood donors from LAUTECH Teaching Hospital,Osogbo were tested for hepatitis A virus(HAV),hepatitis B virus(HBV) and hepatitis C virus(HCV) using rapid test kit and Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent ***:The highest prevalence of blood transmitted infections was 182(97.85%) while the prevalence of HIV,HAV,HBV and HCV were 6.45%,97.85%,14.52% and 3.23% *** seroprevalence for hepatitis A,B and C occurred among low risk *** was no significant association between all the hepatitis viruses and demographic factors except occupation with P value of 0.002 *** A,B and C seropositive blood donors on average tend to have PCV within the normal reference *** of the 27 hepatitis B positive blood donors,22 were donating blood for the first time while 5 were repeat *** of the hepatitis C seropositive donors have been exposed to blood or any form of its products and were all donating blood for the first ***,the distribution of donor type for HAV is ***:The presence of HAV,HBV,HCV and HIV among prospective donors in Nigeria particularly the alarming prevalence of *** infections can be transmitted to recipients if proper screening is not carried out,hence they should be included as a routine test for blood donors.

Improved thromboresistance and analytical performance of intravascular amperometric glucose sensors using optimized nitric oxide release coatings

In this work, nitric oxide （NO） release coatings designed for intravenous amperometric glucose sensors are optimized through the use ofa polylactic acid （PLA） layer doped with a lipophilic diazeniumdiolated species that releases NO through a proton-driven mechanism. An Elast-Eon E2As polyurethane coating is used to both moderate NO release from the sensor surface and increase the sensor＇s linear detection range toward glucose. These sensors were evaluated for thromboresistance and in vivo glucose performance through implantation in rabbit veins. By maintaining NO flux on a similar scale to endogenous endothelial cells, implanted glucose sensors exhibited reduced surface clot formation which enables more accurate quantitative glucose measurements continuously. An in vivo time trace of implanted venous sensors demonstrated glucose values that correlated well with the discrete measurements of blood samples on a benchtop point-of-care sensor-based instrument. The raw measured currents from the implanted glucose sensors over 7 h time periods were converted to glucose concentration through use of both a one-point in vivo calibration and a calibration curve obtained in vitro within a bovine serum solution. Control sensors, assembled without NO release functionality, exhibit distinctive surface clotting over the 7 h in vivo implantation period.

Gas chromatography/inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (GC/ICP-MS) coupled with solid phase micro-extraction can provide a simple, extremely selective and sensitive technique for the analysis of volatile sulfur and selenium compounds in the headspace of growing plants. In this work, the technique was used to evaluate the volatilization of selenium in wild-type and genetically-modified Brassica juncea seedlings. By converting toxic inorganic selenium in the soil to less toxic, volatile organic selenium, B. juncea might be useful in bioremediation of selenium contaminated soil.

It is generally accepted that perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA)magnets are preferred over in-plane magnetic anisotropy(IMA)magnets in data storage applications owing to their large thermal stability even at ultra-scaled *** efficiently and deterministically switch a PMA,out-of-plan spin current is ***,conventional giant spin Hall effect(GSHE)materials only produce spin currents with in-plane *** work,on the other hand,demonstrated for the first time that out-of-plane spin currents can indeed be generated by applying electric filed to monolayer WSe2 at room temperature and the spin information was detected by a graphene *** by theoretical calculations,we found that the interfacial polarization between graphene and WSe2 to be^38%assuming the ferromagnetic detector's polarization efficiency to be^4%.Moreover,the spin polarization is determined by the polarity of the applied electric field.
