Background: Understanding the role of species identity in interactions among individuals is crucial for assessing the productivity and stability of mixed forests over time. However, there is limited knowledge concerning the variation in competitive effect and response of different species along climatic gradients. In this study, we investigated the importance of climate, tree size, and competition on the growth of three tree species: spruce(Picea abies), fir(Abies alba), and beech(Fagus sylvatica), and examined their competitive response and effect along a climatic ***: We selected 39 plots distributed across the European mountains with records of the position and growth of 5,759 individuals. For each target species, models relating tree growth to tree size, climate and competition were proposed. Competition was modelled using a neighbourhood competition index that considered the effects of inter-and intraspecific competition on target trees. Competitive responses and effects were related to *** methods and information theory were used to select the best ***: Our findings revealed that competition had a greater impact on target species growth than tree size or climate. Climate did influence the competitive effects of neighbouring species, but it did not affect the target species? response to competition. The strength of competitive effects varied along the gradient, contingent on the identity of the interacting species. When the target species exhibited an intermediate competitive effect relative to neighbouring species, both higher inter-than intraspecific competitive effects and competition reduction occurred along the gradient. The Effect of Weather and Agronomic Practice on Deoxynivalenol Mycotoxin in Durum Wheat

Deoxynivalenol (DON) produced by Fusarium graminearum and F. culmorum in durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var. durum) is an important food safety issue for the cereal chain. A number of agronomic practices are known to affect the infection and mycotoxin production by these Fusarium species in cereal grains. A field study was conducted to compare the natural occurrence of DON in durum wheat grown under conventional (n = 67 samples) and organic (n = 50) farming conditions during two consecutive crop years. DON mean levels were 95 and 194 μg/kg in conventional and organic durum wheat, respectively. The incidence and levels of DON were higher in the second crop year due to higher rainfall (> 100 mm) during flowering. Overall, organically managed farming system may provide some reduction in DON levels in durum wheat, which could be attributable to the lower intensity of cultivation in addition to the different system of cropping rotation. However, favourable weather conditions are likely to be more important for DON contamination than crop system.

Lead free tin perovskite solar cells(PKSCs)are the most suitable alternative candidate for conventional lead perovskite solar ***,the efficiency and the stability are insufficient,mainly because of the poor film quality and numerous *** we introduce an efficient strategy based on a simple trimethylsilyl halide surface passivation to increase the film quality and reduce the defect *** the same time,a hydrophobic protective layer on the perovskite surface is formed,which enhanced the PKSCs’*** efficiency of the solar cell after the passivation was enhanced from 10.05%to 12.22%with the improved open-circuit voltage from 0.57 V to 0.70 *** addition,after 92 days of storage in N_(2) filled glovebox,the modified T-PKSCs demonstrated high stability maintaining 80%of its initial *** work provides a simple and widely used strategy to optimize the surface/interface optoelectronic properties of perovskites for giving more efficient and stable solar cells and other optoelectronic devices.

Approximating Ordinary Differential Equations by Means of the Chess Game Moves

The chess game provides a very rich experience in neighborhood types. The chess pieces have vertical, horizontal, diagonal, up/down or combined movements on one or many squares of the chess. These movements can associate with neighborhoods. Our work aims to set a behavioral approximation between calculations carried out by means of traditional computation tools such as ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and the evolution of the value of the cells caused by the chess game moves. Our proposal is based on a grid. The cells’ value changes as time pass depending on both their neighborhood and an update rule. This framework succeeds in applying real data matching in the cases of the ODEs used in compartmental models of disease expansion, such as the well-known Susceptible-Infected Recovered (SIR) model and its derivatives, as well as in the case of population dynamics in competition for resources, depicted by the Lotke-Volterra model.

In this study,310 destructively sampled plots were used to develop two equation systems for the three main pine species in NW Spain(***;*** and ***):one for estimating loads of understorey fuel components by size and condition(live and dead)and another one for forest floor *** systems of equations were simultaneously fitted for estimating fuel loads using overstorey,understorey and forest floor variables as *** systems of equations included both the effect of pine species and the effect of understorey compositions dominated by ferns-brambles or by woody species,due to their obvious structural and physiological *** general,the goodness-of-fit statistics indicated that the estimates were reasonably robust and accurate for all of the fuel *** best results were obtained for total understorey vegetation,total forest floor and raw humus fuel loads,with more than 76%of the observed variability explained,whereas the poorest results were obtained for coarse fuel loads of understory vegetation with a 53%of observed variability *** reduce the overall costs associated with the field inventories necessary for operational use of the models,the additive systems were fitted again using only overstorey variables as potential *** relationships for fine(<6 mm)and total understorey vegetation and total forest floor fuel loads were obtained,indicating the complexity of the forest overstorey-understorey and overstorey-forest floor ***,these models explained around 52%of the observed ***,equations estimating the total understorey vegetation and the total forest floor fuel loads based only on canopy cover were *** models explained only 26%-32%of the observed variability;however,their main advantage is that although understorey vegetation in forested landscapes is largely invisible to remote sensing,canopy cover can be estimated with moderate accuracy,allowin

Accommodation in human eye models:a comparison between the optical designs of Navarro,Arizona and Liou-Brennan

AIM： To simulate and compare accommodation in accommodative and non-accommodative human eye ***： Ray tracing and optical design program was used. Three eye models were designed and studied： the Navarro, the Arizona and the Liou-Brennan. In order to make the Navarro and Liou-Brennan models to accommodate, specific geometric parameters of the models were altered with values that were chosen from the literature. For the Arizona model, its’ mathematical functions for accommodation were used for the same accommodative demands. The simulation included four distances of accommodation for each model： at infinity, 3, 1 and 0.5 *** results were diffraction images of a “letter F” for graphical comparison, spot diagrams on the retinal field and Modulation Transfer Function （MTF） ***：Zernike coefficients for the aberrations, Airy disk diameter, root mean square （RMS） error diameter and total axial length of the model were provided from the program. These were compared between them in all distances. The Navarro model had the smallest axial length change as a simple model. The Arizona did not change its axial length because it is designed to be accommodative. The Liou-Brennan model had different results concerning the aberrations because of the decentration of the pupil. The MTF graphs showed small differences between the models because of the differences in their ***： All the three models are able to simulate accommodation with the expected results. There is no model that can be assumed as the best choice. Accommodation can be simulated in non-accommodativemodels and in customized ones.

Piwi-interacting RNAs(piRNAs of 26-32 nt in length)regulate gene expression,epigenetics,and transcriptional and post-transcriptional processes.1 In humans,piRNAs are expressed in germline and somatic tissues,and generally have a uracil at the 5'-end(position+1),an adenine at the+10 position,and are 2'-0 methylated at the 3'-end.2 Onice piRNAs form the RNA-induced silencing complex(RISC)with PIWl proteins,they serve as guides to find their complementary sequences of the target mRNA,thus initiating their *** Wuhan patient's genome is approximately 265 nucleotides(nts)in its 3'-UTR;piRNAs-like sequences have been reported in this region.3 Our objective was to search,through bioinformatics,for mRNA sequences that were homologous to the reverse complementary of the previously reported piRNA-like sequences from the 3'-UTR of SARS-Cov-2,3 and identify the possible interaction between them.
