Clinical significance of"anti-HBc alone"in human immunodeficiency virus-positive patients

AIM： TO determine the prevalence and clinical relevance of isolated antibodies to hepatitis B core antigen as the only marker of infection （“anti-HBc alone”） among human immunodeficiency virus （HIV） type-1 infected patients. Occult hepatitis B infection frequency was also evaluated. METHODS： Three hundred and forty eight histories from 2388 HIV-positive patients were randomly reviewed. Patients with serological markers of hepatitis B virus （HBV） infection were classified into three groups： past hepatitis, ＂anti-HBc alone＂ and chronic hepatitis. Determination of DNA from HBV, and RNA and genotype from hepatitis C virus （HCV） were performed on ＂anti-HBc alone＂ patients. RESULTS： One hundred and eighty seven （53.7%） HIV-positive patients had markers of HBV infection： 118 past infection （63.1%）, 14 chronic hepatitis （7.5%） and 55 ＂anti-HBc alone＂（29.4%）. Younger age [2.3-fold higher per every 10 years younger; 95% confidence intervals （Cl） 1.33-4.00] and antibodies to HCV infection [odds ratio （OR） 2.87; 95% CI 1.10-7.48] were factors independently associated with the ＂anti-HBc alone＂ pattern. No differences in liver disease frequency were detected between both groups. Serum levels of anti-HBs were not associated with HCV infection （nor viral replication or HCV genotype）, or with HIV replication or CD4 level. No ＂anti-HBc alone＂ patient tested positive for HBV DNA. CONCLUSION：＂Anti-HBc alone＂ prevalence in HIM- positive patients was similar to previously reported data and was associated with a younger age and with antibodies to HCV infection. In clinical practice, HBV DNA determination should be performed only in those patients with clinical or analytical signs of liver injury,

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body,performing a fundamental role in the regulationof diverse processes,among which the metabolism,secretion,storage,and detoxification of endogenous and exogenous substances are *** to these functions,hepatic diseases continue to be among the main threats to public health,and they remain problems throughout the *** enormous advances in modern medicine,there are no completely effective drugs that stimulate hepatic function,that offer complete protection of the organ,or that help to regenerate hepatic ***,it is necessary to identify pharmaceutical alternatives for the treatment of liver diseases,with the aim of these alternatives being more effective and less *** use of some plants and the consumption of different fruits have played basic roles in human health care,and diverse scientific investigations have indicated that,in those plants and fruits so identified,their beneficial effects can be attributed to the presence of chemical compounds that are called *** present review had as its objective the collecting of data based on research conducted into some fruits(grapefruit,cranberries,and grapes)and plants[cactus pear(nopal)and cactus pear fruit,chamomile,silymarin,and spirulina],which are consumed frequently by humans and which have demonstrated hepatoprotective capacity,as well as an analysis of a resin(propolis)and some phytochemicals extracted from fruits,plants,yeasts,and algae,which have been evaluated in different models of hepatotoxicity.

In this study,we analyze new ways of conceptualizing improvements in firms'innovation by implementing the"right-factors configuration,"illustrated through an analog of a recipe and its ***,we research the multiple combinations of three ingredients(creativity,innovation networks,and resources)required to accomplish the innovation *** a sample of firms from a Spanish science and technology park,we apply qualitative comparative analysis(QCA)-specifically,fuzzy-set QCA(fsQCA)-to test the importance of each component in technological and non-technological ***,the results suggest a map of combinations of innovative ingredients with eight possible ***,they show that the only ingredient needed is the combination of a creative climate and creative ***,the methods of obtaining technological and non-technological innovations *** implications for management and policymakers are discussed,and directions for future research are highlighted.

Procoagulant activity of circulating microparticles is associated with the presence of moderate calcified plaque burden detected by multislice computed tomography

Background Circulating microparticles （MPs） have been reported to be associated with coronary artery disease （CAD）. In this study, we explored the relationship between MPs procoagulant activity and characteristics of atherosclerotic plaque detected by 64-slice computed tomography angiography （CTA）. Methods In 127 consecutive patients with CAD but without acute coronary syndrome and who under went 64-slice CTA, MPs procoagulant activity in plasma Coy a thrombin generation test）, soluble form of lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 （sLOX-1） and N（epsilon）-（carboxymethyl） lysine （CML） circulating levels （by ELISA） were measured. A quantitative volumetric analysis of the lumen and plaque burden of the vessel wall （soft and calcific components）, for the three major coronary vessels, was performed. The patients were classified in three groups according to the presence of calcium volume： non-calcified plaque （NCP） group （calcium volume （%） = 0）, moderate calcified plaque （MCP） group （0 〈 calcium volume （%）〈 1）, and calcified plaque （CP） group （calcium volume （%）〉 1）. Results MPs procoagulant activity and CML levels were higher in MCP group than in CP or NCP group （P = 0.009 and P = 0.027, respectively）. MPs procoagulant activity was positively associated with CML （r = 0.317, P 〈 0.0001） and sLOX-1 levels （r = 0.216, P = 0.0025）. Conclusions MPs procoagulant activity was higher in the MCP patient group and correlated positively with sLOX-1 and CML levels, suggesting that it may characterize a state of blood vulnerability that may locally precipitate plaque instability and increase the risk of subsequent major cardiovascular events.

Anti-pandemic policies impacted the governance of Higher Education Institutions(HEIs)through confinement and distancing *** an impact was observed in the identity,reputation,and image of the HEI in the face of the health *** objective of this work was to establish an empirical contrast between the theoretical structure consulted regarding the evaluations of summaries published from 2019 to 2024 by judges.A documentary,cross-sectional,and retrospective study was carried out with a sample of sources indexed in international *** results demonstrate that image and age regulate the impact of identity and income on *** relation to the state of the art,it is recommended to extend the study to sociocultural,demographic,economic,and educational variables in order to anticipate the transition from university governance to corporate governance.

The last decades have represented an important season in the re-conceptualization of brain plasticity,especially in extending the concept at events occurring beyond the developmental stage and in demonstrating the profound impact of these changes on so-called spontaneous recovery after central nervous system(CNS)*** study of the cellular,molecular,functional and structural mechanisms involved in brain plasticity has clearly emphasized the multitude of players engaged in this phenomenon,leading to the conceptualization that non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal mechanisms intervene in these changes and orchestrate some of the responses observed(Werner and Stevens,2015).Among the different non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal substrates of injury-induced plasticity is becoming increasingly recognized that microglia drive a series of intrinsic CNS responses after damage(Sandvig et al.,2018;Bisicchia et al.,2019).

Modelling fuel loads of understorey vegetation and forest floor components in pine stands in NW Spain

In this study,310 destructively sampled plots were used to develop two equation systems for the three main pine species in NW Spain(***;*** and ***):one for estimating loads of understorey fuel components by size and condition(live and dead)and another one for forest floor *** systems of equations were simultaneously fitted for estimating fuel loads using overstorey,understorey and forest floor variables as *** systems of equations included both the effect of pine species and the effect of understorey compositions dominated by ferns-brambles or by woody species,due to their obvious structural and physiological *** general,the goodness-of-fit statistics indicated that the estimates were reasonably robust and accurate for all of the fuel *** best results were obtained for total understorey vegetation,total forest floor and raw humus fuel loads,with more than 76%of the observed variability explained,whereas the poorest results were obtained for coarse fuel loads of understory vegetation with a 53%of observed variability *** reduce the overall costs associated with the field inventories necessary for operational use of the models,the additive systems were fitted again using only overstorey variables as potential *** relationships for fine(dels explained around 52%of the observed ***,equations estimating the total understorey vegetation and the total forest floor fuel loads based only on canopy cover were *** models explained only 26%-32%of the observed variability;however,their main advantage is that although understorey vegetation in forested landscapes is largely invisible to remote sensing,canopy cover can be estimated with moderate accuracy,allowin

Background: Understanding the role of species identity in interactions among individuals is crucial for assessing the productivity and stability of mixed forests over time. However, there is limited knowledge concerning the variation in competitive effect and response of different species along climatic gradients. In this study, we investigated the importance of climate, tree size, and competition on the growth of three tree species: spruce(Picea abies), fir(Abies alba), and beech(Fagus sylvatica), and examined their competitive response and effect along a climatic ***: We selected 39 plots distributed across the European mountains with records of the position and growth of 5,759 individuals. For each target species, models relating tree growth to tree size, climate and competition were proposed. Competition was modelled using a neighbourhood competition index that considered the effects of inter-and intraspecific competition on target trees. Competitive responses and effects were related to *** methods and information theory were used to select the best ***: Our findings revealed that competition had a greater impact on target species growth than tree size or climate. Climate did influence the competitive effects of neighbouring species, but it did not affect the target species? response to competition. The strength of competitive effects varied along the gradient, contingent on the identity of the interacting species. When the target species exhibited an intermediate competitive effect relative to neighbouring species, both higher inter-than intraspecific competitive effects and competition reduction occurred along the gradient.
