BACKGROUND Perioperative fluorouracil plus leucovorin,oxaliplatin,and docetaxel(FLOT)improves prognosis in locally advanced gastric cancer(LAGC).Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte(NLR),lymphocyte-tomonocyte(LMR),and platelet-to-lymphocyte(PLR)ratios are prognostic biomarkers but not predictive *** To assess blood ratios’(NLR,LMR and PLR)potential predictive response to FLOT and survival outcomes in resectable LAGC *** This was a multicentric retrospective study investigating the clinical potential of NLR,LMR,and PLR in resectable LAGC patients,treated with at least one preoperative FLOT cycle,from 12 Portuguese *** were compared through non-parametric Mann-Whitney *** operating characteristic curve analysis defined the cut-off values as:High PLR>141 for progression and>144 for mortality;high LMR>3.56 for T stage regression(TSR).Poisson and Cox regression models the calculated relative risks/hazard ratios,using NLR,pathologic complete response,TSR,and tumor regression grade(TRG)as independent variables,and overall survival(OS)as the dependent *** This study included 295 patients(mean age,63.7 years;59.7% males).NLR was correlated with survival time(r=0.143,P=0.014).PLR was associated with systemic progression during FLOT(P=0.022)and mortality(P=0.013),with high PLR patients having a 2.2-times higher risk of progression[95% confidence interval(CI):0.89-5.26]and 1.5-times higher risk of mortality(95%CI:0.92-2.55).LMR was associated with TSR,and high LMR patients had a 1.4-times higher risk of achieving TSR(95%CI:1.01-1.99).OS benefit was found with TSR(P=0.015)and partial/complete TRG(P<0.001).Patients without TSR and with no evidence of pathological response had 2.1-times(95%CI:1.14-3.96)and 2.8-times(95%CI:1.6-5)higher risk of *** Higher NLR is correlated with longer survival *** LMR patients have a higher risk of decreasing T stage,whereas high PLR patients have higher odds of progressing under FLOT a

Mapuche People:Valuing a Colonial Past in the Official Primary History Textbook from an Intermodal Perspective of Historical Sources

This article explores from an intermodal perspective how visual and verbal historical documents contribute to the construction of value positions regarding the Mapuche people during colonial and early republican times in the latest official 5 thgrade primary Chilean History *** study analyzes,in particular,the visual and verbal historical secondary sources that build in combination evaluative prosodies that in turn contribute to construct determinate ideological perspectives regarding Mapuche *** discourse analysis takes a social and ideological intermodal approach(Oteíza&Pinuer 2016,2019)focusing on an appraisal analysis(Martin&White 2005;Martin2014;Hood 2010;Oteíza&Pinuer 2012,2019)informed by socio-semiotic and Systemic Functional Linguistics *** cumulative intersemiotic reading of symbolic images and written documents privileges evaluative prosodies of negative integrity and of high conflict,in which Mapuche people are represented with more agency than Hispanics,emphasizing the stereotype of indigenous people as foreign,exotic and brave warriors,but also as violent,primitive and savage people that have had resisted Hispanic desires of slavering and cultural *** secondary sources offer alternative historical interpretations,although mainly constructed by evoked evaluations that could be less evident to children.

Differential diagnosis of uterine vascular anomalies:Uterine pseudoaneurysm as a cause of massive hemorrhage

In this article,we comment on the paper by Kakinuma et al published *** focus specifically on the diagnosis of uterine pseudoaneurysm,but we also review other uterine vascular anomalies that may be the cause of life-threating hemorrhage and the different causes of uterine *** artery pseudoaneurysm is a complication of both surgical gynecological and nontraumatic *** hemorrhage is the consequence of the rupture of the *** artery pseudoaneurysm can develop after obstetric or gynecological procedures,being the most frequent after cesarean or vaginal deliveries,curettage and even during ***,there are several cases described unrelated to pregnancy,such as after conization,hysteroscopic surgery or laparoscopic *** is the clinical manifestation and it can be life-threatening so suspicion of this vascular lesion is essential for early diagnosis and ***,there are other uterine vascular anomalies that may be the cause of severe hemorrhage,which must be taken into account in the differential *** tomography angiography and embolization is supposed to be the first therapeutic option in most of them.

On the effect of pitch and yaw angles in oblique impacts of smallcaliber projectiles

A terminal ballistic analysis of the effects of 7.62 mm × 51 AP P80 rounds on inclined high-strength armor steel plates is the focus of the presented *** findings of an instrumented ballistic testing combined with 3D advanced numerical simulations performed using the IMPETUS Afea? software yielded the *** experimental verification proved that slight differences in the pitch-andyaw angles of a projectile upon an impact caused different damage types to the projectile’s *** residual velocities predicted numerically were close to the experimental values and the calculated core deviations were in satisfactory agreement with the experimental *** extended matrix of the core deviation angles with combinations of pitch-and-yaw upon impact angles was subsequently built on the basis of the numerical *** presented experimental and numerical investigation examined thoroughly the influence of the initial pitch and yaw angles on the after-perforation projectile’s performance.

Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

A closed linear relation T in a Banach space X is called left(resp. right) Fredholm if it is upper(resp. lower) semi Fredholm and its range(resp. null space) is topologically complemented in X. We say that T is left(resp. right) Browder if it is left(resp. right)Fredholm and has a finite ascent(resp. descent). In this paper, we analyze the stability of the left(resp. right) Fredholm and the left(resp. right) Browder linear relations under commuting Riesz operator perturbations. Recent results of Zivkovic et al. to the case of bounded operators are covered.

The plasticity of plasticity:lesson from remote microglia induced by focal central nervous system injury

The last decades have represented an important season in the re-conceptualization of brain plasticity,especially in extending the concept at events occurring beyond the developmental stage and in demonstrating the profound impact of these changes on so-called spontaneous recovery after central nervous system(CNS)*** study of the cellular,molecular,functional and structural mechanisms involved in brain plasticity has clearly emphasized the multitude of players engaged in this phenomenon,leading to the conceptualization that non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal mechanisms intervene in these changes and orchestrate some of the responses observed(Werner and Stevens,2015).Among the different non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal substrates of injury-induced plasticity is becoming increasingly recognized that microglia drive a series of intrinsic CNS responses after damage(Sandvig et al.,2018;Bisicchia et al.,2019).

Aerosol transmission of human pathogens:From miasmata to modern viral pandemics and their preservation potential in the Anthropocene record

Ongoing uncertainty over the relative importance of aerosol transmission of COVID-19 is in part rooted in the history of medical science and our understanding of how epidemic diseases can spread through human populations. Ancient Greek medical theory held that such illnesses are transmitted by airborne pathogenic emanations containing particulate matter(“miasmata”). Notable Roman and medieval scholars such as Varro, Ibn al-Khatib and Fracastoro developed these ideas, combining them with early germ theory and the concept of contagion. A widely held but vaguely defined belief in toxic miasmatic mists as a dominant causative agent in disease propagation was overtaken by the science of 19th century microbiology and epidemiology, especially in the study of cholera, which was proven to be mainly transmitted by contaminated water. Airborne disease transmission came to be viewed as burdened by a dubious historical reputation and difficult to demonstrate convincingly. A breakthrough came with the classic mid-20th century work of Wells, Riley and Mills who proved how expiratory aerosols(their “droplet nuclei”)could transport still-infectious tuberculosis bacteria through ventilation systems. The topic of aerosol transmission of pathogenic respiratory diseases assumed a new dimension with the mid-late 20th century “Great Acceleration” of an increasingly hypermobile human population repeatedly infected by different strains of zoonotic viruses, and has taken centre stage this century in response to outbreaks of new respiratory infections that include coronaviruses. From a geoscience perspective, the consequences of pandemic-status diseases such as COVID-19, produced by viral pathogens utilising aerosols to infect a human population currently approaching 8 billion, are far-reaching and unprecedented. Clustering mechanism for electric tomography imaging

Electrical tomography(ET) imaging,developed in the 1980s,has attracted much industrial and research attentions owing to its low cost,quick response,lack of radiation exposure,and non-intrusiveness compared to other tomography ***,to date applications thereof have been limited owing to its low imaging *** issue with space resolution in existing ET imaging reconstruction methods is that they employ a mathematical approach based on an ill-posed equation with inconsistent *** this paper,we propose a novel ET imaging method based on a data-driven *** recovering the cluster structures hidden in the ET imaging process followed by the application of a fuzzy clustering algorithm to identify the cluster structures,there is no need to study the ill-posed mathematical *** proposed method has been tested by means of three experiments,including image reconstructions of a human lung image and plastic rode shape,as well as two simulations executed on the Comsol *** results show that the proposed method can reconstruct ET images with much higher space resolution more quickly than the existing algorithms.
