Dear editor,Prostate cancer(PCa)remains a major healthcare burden in men globally[1].Most patients present with localized disease,and treatment is recommended based on risk classification systems like the National Comprehensive Cancer Network(NCCN)[2].However,these methods are imprecise for estimating metastasis-free survival and prostate cancer-specific mortality and thus biomarkers that can predict tumor aggression are needed[3–5].Several studies have since characterized the molecular landscape of localized PCa in white[4,5]and Black/African-American men[6],but data is lacking in Asian men.The Chinese Prostate Cancer Genome and Epigenome Atlas(CPGEA)reported on the genomic and epigenomic landscape of 208 PCa of men from China[7].Comparative analyses between the CPGEA cohort and data from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)revealed higher frequencies of Forkhead box A1(FOXA1)and chromodomain-helicase DNA-binding 1(CHD1)mutations,and lower frequencies of phosphatase and tensin homolog(PTEN)mutations and transmembrane protease serine 2-E26 transformationspecific related gene(TMPRSS2-ERG)fusion in Chinese compared with white men[7].These preliminary findings highlight the presence of race-specific differences in molecular phenotypes of PCa.

Objective: Prostate cancers(PCa) in Asian individuals are molecularly distinct from those found in their Caucasian counterparts.There is no risk stratification tool for Asian men with rapid biochemical recurrence(BCR) following radical prostatectomy(Rad P). This study aims to assess the detection rate of ^(68)Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen-positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PSMA-PET/CT) for diagnosis of clinical recurrence and as a treatment decision making tool in Asian patients with BCR post-Rad P.Methods: ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET and CT body with/without bone scan [conventional workup(CwU)] were performed in 55 Asian patients with BCR within 36 months post-Rad P. Two blinded reviewers assessed the images. Detection rates of ^(68)Ga PSMAPET/CT were evaluated, and impact on management was reviewed by comparison with CwU.Results: Median time to BCR post-Rad P was 8.1 months. Detection rate for ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET/CT was 80%(44/55). A positive scan was significantly associated with increasing prostate-specific antigen(PSA) level [odds ratio(OR) = 1.13(95% CI 1.05–1.30), P =0.017], but not with higher Gleason grade or shorter PSA doubling time. Compared to CwU, ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET/CT detected an additional 106 lesions in 33/44 patients with a positive scan, resulting in a change in management in 25/44(56.8%) patients: 10 to hormonal therapy(HT) and whole pelvis radiotherapy(RT) in addition to bed RT, and 15 to palliative HT alone.Conclusions: In the present report, we demonstrated the diagnostic and treatment decision utility of ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET/CT in Asian men with rapid BCR. Detection of small volume nodal and systemic recurrences at low PSA levels(with HT-RT or palliative HT in polymetastatic disease.

Background: Despite the advances in anesthetics and non-pharmacological techniques, the prevalence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in all patients remains high. It is one of the most common distressing symptoms that cause dissatisfaction among patients after anesthesia and surgery. A sub-hypnotic dose of propofol has been shown to reduce morphine-induced postoperative nausea, vomiting, and pruritus. This review article will provide sufficient knowledge on the role of propofol in minimizing opioid-induced postoperative nausea, vomiting, and pruritus by providing detailed information on propofol antiemetic and antipruritic effects, as well as discussions based on empirically available data. Method: we conducted a narrative review of the literature published between 1990 and 2023 from a range of databases;PubMed, BioMed Central, Biosis Previews, Nature, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, Springer-Link, and Elsevier. Discussion and Conclusion: The literatures reviewed in this study have demonstrated that propofol may have diverse therapeutic effects including antiemetic and antipruritic. The antiemetic effect of propofol may be an effective therapeutic approach for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. The literature also demonstrated that the use of propofol for sedation during surgery may as well ameliorates opioids induced postoperative pruritus, which may be beneficial to surgical patients. Also, it was demonstrated that prophylactic use of propofol may be an effective way of preventing nausea and vomiting and pruritus during opioid use.

1 Background Nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)arises from the epithelial cells that cover and line the nasopharynx.while it is considered a rare cancer globally,it is commonly observed in South China and a few other ethnically distinct racial groups.Due to its propensity to spread early through the submucosal tissue and the highly infiltrative nature of this disease,NPC spreads easily through areas of lesser resistance within the pharyngobasilar fascia with a tendency for neural infiltration[1-3].

Dear editor,Studies have revealed a significant prevalence of mixed substance abuse,[1-3]and a focused approach towards polysubstance use has been emphasized.[4]Among recreational drugs,cases of hypoglycemia from ecstasy,[5]amphetamine,[6]eutylone,[7]and cannabinoid[8]use have been reported,but none of these cases have had persistent refractory hypoglycemia.

Effect of crystallographic texture and twinning on the corrosion behavior of Mg alloys:A review

Magnesium and its alloys have gained significant popularity due to their light weight and their potential for use as bioresorbable materials.However,their application is limited in practice due to their relatively poor corrosion resistance.Several methods are available for improving the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys for bio-applications such as using different coatings,alloying,and modifying the microstructural parameters such as the grain size and the crystallographic texture.This review provides a comprehensive summary of the effects of crystallographic texture and twinning,as one of the most important deformation mechanisms of Mg and Mg alloys,on the corrosion behavior.Regarding the crystallographic texture,it is shown that theoretically the basal planes should exhibit a lower corrosion rate but in some cases,such as when there is a galvanic effect or when corrosion films control the overall corrosion behavior,different results may take place.Also,there are contradictory results concerning the effect of twinning on the corrosion behavior.Thus,in some cases twinning may provide preferential sites for corrosion due to the higher energies of atoms located in the twin region by comparison with normal atomic positions in the crystalline lattice whereas there are also other examples where experiments show that twins produce more protective films than in the surrounding matrix.

Impaired glymphatic function in the early stages of disease in a TDP-43 mouse model of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Background: Multiple lines of evidence suggest possible impairment of the glymphatic system in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To investigate this, we used in vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess glymphatic func-tion early in the course of disease in a transgenic mouse with doxycycline (Dox)-controlled expression of cytoplasmic human TDP-43 (hTDP-43ΔNLS), mimicking the key pathology implicated in ALS. Methods: Adult TDP-43 transgenic and littermate monogenic control mice underwent longitudinal multimodal MRI one and three weeks after the cessation of Dox feed, together with weekly rotarod assessments of motor per-formance. Glymphatic function was assessed using dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI to track the clearance of an MR contrast agent injected into the cisterna magna. Results: Compared to their littermate controls, TDP-43 mice exhibited progressive neurodegeneration including that within the primary motor cortex, primary somatosensory cortex and corticospinal tract, significant weight loss includ-ing gastrocnemius atrophy, and shortened telomere length. Furthermore, in the presence of this ALS-like phenotype, these mice have significantly disrupted glymphatic function. Conclusions: Although the relationship between glymphatic clearance and ALS disease progression remains to be elucidated, these changes occurred very early in the disease course. This provides initial evidence to suggest that the glymphatic system might be a potential therapeutic target in the treatment of ALS.

Recent advances using equal-channel angular pressing to improve the properties of biodegradable Mg-Zn alloys

Magnesium alloys are of considerable current interest for use as degradable implants due to their unique properties including biodegrad-ability,biocompatibility,low density and adequate mechanical properties.Nevertheless,there is a need to further improve these properties either by alloying or through the use of appropriate processing.Among the different biodegradable Mg alloys now in use,the Mg-Zn series are of special interest and have been the subject of many research investigations.This is primarily because Zn is an essential element for the human body in addition to its positive effects in improving the mechanical strength and lowering the degradation rate of the implant.The properties of Mg-Zn alloys may be further improved both through the addition of third and fourth alloying elements such as Ca,Ag,Sn or Sr and/or by thermo-mechanical processing where the latter is more environmentally and economically favorable.In practice,procedures based on the application of severe plastic deformation(SPD)are especially suited to produce fine-grained microstructures with improved mechanical,degradation and cell behavior.Equal-channel angular pressing(ECAP)is a popular SPD technique that has the capability of pro-ducing bulk materials that are sufficiently large for use as typical implants.Accordingly,this review is designed to provide a comprehensive summary of the research that has been undertaken on ECAP-processed biodegradable Mg-Zn alloys.

Adaptive Virtual Synchronous Generator Considering Converter and Storage Capacity Limits

A virtual synchronous generator(VSG)control has been proposed as a means to control a voltage source converter interfaced generation and storage to retain the dynamics of a conventional synchronous generator.The storage is used to provide the inertia power and droop power in the VSG control to improve the frequency stability.Since the parameters in the VSG control can be varied,it is necessary for it to be tuned to be adaptive,in order to achieve an optimal response to grid frequency changes.However,the storage cannot provide infinite power and the converter has a strict power limitation which must be observed.The adaptive VSG control should consider these limitations,which have not been considered previously.This paper proposes an adaptive VSG control aimed at obtaining the optimal grid supporting services during frequency transients,accounting for converter and storage capacity limitations.The proposed control has been validated via hardware-in-the-loop testing.It is then implemented in storage co-located with wind farms in a modified IEEE 39-bus system.The results show that the proposed control stabilizes the system faster and has better cooperation with other VSGs,considering storage and converter limits.
