Specific changes in the expression of imprinted genes in prostate cancer--implications for cancer progression and epigenetic regulation

Epigenetic dysregulation comprising DNA hypermethylation and hypomethylation, enhancer of zeste homologue 2 （EZH2） overexpression and altered patterns of histone modifications is associated with the progression of prostate cancer. DNA methylation, EZH2 and histone modifications also ensure the parental-specific monoallelic expression of at least 62 imprinted genes. Although it is therefore tempting to speculate that epigenetic dysregulation may extend to imprinted genes, expression changes in cancerous prostates are only well documented for insulin-like growth factor 2 （IGF2）. A literature and database survey on imprinted genes in prostate cancer suggests that the expression of most imprinted genes remains unchanged despite global disturbances in epigenetic mechanisms. Instead, selective genetic and epigenetic changes appear to lead to the inactivation of a sub-network of imprinted genes, which might function in the prostate to limit cell growth induced via the PI3K/Akt pathway, modulate androgen responses and regulate differentiation. Whereas dysregulation of IGF2 may constitute an early change in prostate carcinogenesis, inactivation of this imprinted gene network is rather associated with cancer progression.

Platinum nanoparticles coated by graphene layers: A low-metal loading catalyst for methanol oxidation in alkaline media

Platinum catalysts play a major role in the large scale commercialization of direct methanol fuel cells(DMFC).Here,we present a procedure to create a nanostructural graphene-platinum(Gr Pt)composite containing a small amount(5.3 wt%)of platinum nanoparticles coated with at least four layers of *** composite,as Gr Pt ink,was deposited on a glassy carbon electrode and its electrocatalytic activity in a methanol oxidation reaction(MOR)was evaluated in a 1 M CH3OH/1 M NaOH *** results indicated an enhanced catalytic performance of GrPt towards MOR in alkaline media compared with the Pt/C *** energy-loss spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(recorded before and after the electrochemical assays)were employed to analyze the changes in the chemical composition of the nanomaterial and to explain the transformations that took place at the electrode *** findings suggest that growing of graphene on platinum nanoparticles improve the catalytic performance of platinum-graphene composites towards MOR in alkaline media.

Chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is a major cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)*** recent advancement of direct-acting Antiviral Agents(DAAs)in hepatitis C therapy,resulted in sustained virological response rates of over 90%in treated patients in different stages of liver *** efficacy of DAAs treatment has also been confirmed in real-life cohorts that include subjects with decompensated cirrhosis and therefore seems a promising step to a significant reduction in the recurrence of HCC in patients who achieved complete destruction of the HCC nodules by local *** present a 72-year old patient with HCV-related liver cirrhosis who successfully responded to DAAs treatment after complete destruction of an early HCC nodule.

We use the local Fourier analysis to determine the properties of the multigrid method when used in modeling the skin penetration of a drug. The analyses of these properties can be very in designing an efficient structure of the multigrid method and in comparing the element and finite difference discretization techniques. After the theoretical results obtained, we also present some numerical results for a problem for which the solution is known.

Vascular Flora from Ecoton Zones of the Slatioara Secular Forest

The purpose of this study is to generate essential scientific information regarding the floristic composition and the structures of the ecotone vegetation in the natural forest Codrul Secular Slătioara, because so far no such studies have been carried out in this reserve. Also, the results of this study provide important data, which can be the basis for the development of strategies for the conservation and sustainable use of some herbaceous species, valuable due to genetic and socio-economic, respectively of a regular forest monitoring program. The floristic studies were carried out in the 2020 to 2021 vegetation season. Based on the specialized literature, plant species were identified and then processed from the point of view of bioforms, floristic elements and ecological indices. The economic categories in which the identified species fall were also analyzed. Thus, a total of 292 species belonging to 46 botanical families were identified and their distribution by ecosystems is as follows: in the forest, 90 species were identified, in the lands adjacent to the forest, in the meadows, 202 species were found and in the area of border, 120 species of vascular plants were identified. Most of the species identified in the study area are hemicryptophytes, heliophiles, and eurytherms, which grow on dry to moderately moist, eurytrophic soils. More than 50% of the identified species belong to several categories of useful plants (fodder, medicinal, melliferous, edible).

Snakebite is classified by the WHO （World Health Organization） as a neglected tropical disease, envenoming in a significant public health problem in tropical and subtropical regions. Neurotoxicity is a key feature of different types of envenomations and there are many unanswered questions regarding this manifestation. Acute neuromuscular weakness with respiratory involvement is the most clinically important neurotoxic effect. We present how the neuroparalytic poison affects the human body and what actually happens when the poison is injected into the human body. Neuroparalytic poisons are one of the most lethal, because they cause paralysis of the eye, throat and chest muscles. A well-known member of the Elapidae family is the cobra. Bungarotoxins are a group of closely related neurotoxin proteins. The α-bungarotoxin inhibits the binding of acetylcholine （ACh） to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors; β-bungarotoxin and T-bungarotoxins act presynaptically causing excessive acetylcholine release and subsequent depletion.
