Three-dimensional structure of an observed cyclonic mesoscale eddy in the Northwest Pacific and its assimilation experiment

Mesoscale eddies play an important role in modulating the ocean *** previous studies on the threedimensional structure of mesoscale eddies were mainly based on composite analysis,and there are few targeted observations for individual eddies.A cyclonic eddy surveyed during an oceanographic cruise in the Northwest Pacific Ocean is investigated in this *** three-dimensional structure of this cyclonic eddy is revealed by observations and simulated by the four-dimensional variational data assimilation(4 DVAR)system combined with the Regional Ocean Modeling *** observation and assimilation results together present the characteristics of the cyclonic *** cold eddy has an obvious dual-core structure of temperature *** core is at 50–150 m and another is at 300–550 m,which both have the average temperature anomaly of approximately-3.5℃.The salinity anomaly core is between 250 m and 500 m,which is *** horizontal velocity structure is axis-asymmetric and it is enhanced on the eastern side of the cold *** the assimilation experiment,sea level anomaly,sea surface temperature,and in situ measurements are assimilated into the system,and the results of assimilation are close to the *** on the high-resolution assimilation output results,the study also diagnoses the vertical velocity in the mesoscale eddy,which reaches the maximum of approximately 10 m/*** larger vertical velocity is found to be distributed in the range of 0.5 to 1 time of the normalized radius of the *** validation of the simulation result shows that the 4 DVAR method is effective to reconstruct the three-dimensional structure of mesoscale eddy and the research is an application to study the mesoscale eddy in the Northwest Pacific by combining observation and assimilation methods.

Effects of a Dry-Mass Conserving Dynamical Core on the Simulation of Tropical Cyclones

The accurate forecasting of tropical cyclones(TCs)is a challenging *** purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a dry-mass conserving(DMC)hydrostatic global spectral dynamical core on TC *** were conducted with DMC and total(moist)mass conserving(TMC)dynamical *** TC forecast performance was first evaluated considering 20 TCs in the West Pacific region observed during the 2020 typhoon *** impacts of the DMC dynamical core on forecasts of individual TCs were then *** DMC dynamical core improved both the track and intensity forecasts,and the TC intensity forecast improvement was much greater than the TC track forecast *** simulations indicated that the DMC dynamical core-simulated TC intensity was stronger regardless of the forecast lead *** the DMC dynamical core experiments,three-dimensional winds and warm and moist cores were consistently enhanced with the TC *** air in the boundary inflow layer was found in the DMC dynamical core experiments at the early simulation *** vapor mixing ratio budget analysis indicated that this mainly depended on the simulated vertical *** updraft above the boundary layer yielded a drier boundary layer,resulting in surface latent heat flux(SLHF)enhancement,the major energy source of TC *** higher DMC dynamical core-simulated updraft in the inner core caused a higher net surface rain rate,producing higher net internal atmospheric diabatic heating and increasing the TC *** results indicate that the stronger DMC dynamical coresimulated TCs are mainly related to the higher DMC vertical velocity.

Hyperosmolality tolerance of freshwater largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides to brackish in early ontogenetic stages of eggs,embryos,and yolk-sac larvae

Salinity is recognized as a pivotal factor limiting the migration of freshwater fish to brackish *** largemouth bass(LMB,Micropterus salmoides),a globally translocated freshwater fish,exhibits estuarine distribution,yet its hyperosmoregulatory capacity during early ontogenetic stages remains inadequately *** investigate the impact of freshwater salinization,a series of experiments were conducted in Guangzhou and Foshan,*** reveal that freshwater-activated mature eggs and naturally fertilized oocytes maintained nearly identical osmotic homeostasis,with diameters of 1.38±0.07 mm and 1.37±0.05 mm,***,both exhibited peak water excretion at a salinity of ***,a reduction in water permeability was observed in hyperosmotic *** hatching rates increased from 27.5%±14.4%in the 1.0 group to 75.1%±12.0%in the 6.0 group under fluctuating temperature ***-sac LMB larvae consistently reduced survival time from 12.5 d at 1.0 to 50.7±2.1 min at salinity of ***,more developed larvae also experienced a decrease in survival *** regression models fitting lethal time with salinity indicated a sharp decrease between 10.0 and *** findings offer practical insights for predicting distribution patterns and enhancing aquaculture technology for ***,they may contribute theoretically to the broader understanding of the osmoregulatory mechanisms of freshwater fish.

The regulatory network and critical factors promoting programmed cell death during embryogenesis

Programmed cell death(PCD)is essential for animal and plant ***,the knowledge of the mechanism regulating PCD in plants remains limited,largely due to technical ***,we determined that the protease NtCP14 could trigger PCD in the embryonic suspensor of tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum),providing a unique opportunity to overcome the limitations by creating synchronous two-celled proembryos with ongoing PCD for transcriptome analysis and regulatory factor ***,we performed comparative transcriptome analysis using isolated two-celled proembryos and explored the potential regulatory network underlying NtCP14-triggered *** phytohormones,calcium,microtubule organization,the immunity system,soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor proteins,long non-coding RNAs and alternative splicing are addressed as critical factors involved in the early stage of suspensor *** thought to play crucial roles in suspensor PCD are ***,decreased antioxidant gene expression and increased reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels during suspensor PCD suggest a critical role for ROS signaling in the initiation of NtCP14-triggered ***,five genes in the regulatory network are recommended as immediate downstream elements of ***,our analysis outlines an overall molecular network underlying protease-triggered PCD and provides a reliable database and valuable clues for targeting elements immediately downstream of NtCP14 to overcome technical bottlenecks and gain deep insight into the molecular mechanism regulating plant PCD.

An asymmetrically variable wingtip anhedral angles morphing aircraft based on incremental sliding mode control:Improving lateral maneuver capability

This paper presents the design of an asymmetrically variable wingtip anhedral angles morphing aircraft,inspired by biomimetic mechanisms,to enhance lateral maneuver ***,we establish a lateral dynamic model considering additional forces and moments resulting during the morphing process,and convert it into a Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO)virtual control system by importing virtual ***,a classical dynamics inversion controller is designed for the outer-loop system.A new Global Fast Terminal Incremental Sliding Mode Controller(NDO-GFTISMC)is proposed for the inner-loop system,in which an adaptive law is implemented to weaken control surface chattering,and a Nonlinear Disturbance Observer(NDO)is integrated to compensate for unknown *** whole control system is proven semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded based on the multi-Lyapunov function ***,we consider tracking errors and self-characteristics of actuators,a quadratic programmingbased dynamic control allocation law is designed,which allocates virtual control inputs to the asymmetrically deformed wingtip and *** dynamic models are incorporated to ensure physical realizability of designed allocation ***,comparative experimental results validate the effectiveness of the designed control system and control allocation *** NDO-GFTISMC features faster convergence,stronger robustness,and 81.25%and 75.0%reduction in maximum state tracking error under uncertainty compared to the Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion Controller based on NDO(NDO-INDI)and Incremental Sliding Mode Controller based on NDO(NDO-ISMC),*** design of the morphing aircraft significantly enhances lateral maneuver capability,maintaining a substantial control margin during lateral maneuvering,reducing the burden of the rudder surface,and effectively solving the actuator saturation problem of traditional aircraft during lateral maneuvering.

Water quality analysis and source apportionment in estuaries along the coast of the Bohai Sea,North China

High-dimensional data(a dataset with many features)were collected from 64 sampling sites to analyze the water quality in estuaries along the coast of the Bohai Sea,North *** twenty-five water quality parameters analyzed were collected monthly from January 2021 to December *** statistical techniques,such as the absolute principal component score-multiple linear regression model(APCS-MLR),correlation analysis,and analysis of variance were used to identify and quantify the potential sources or factors affecting water quality and to analyze the spatial-temporal variation in water *** water quality indices(WQIs),ranging from 67.96 to 70.67,showed that the water quality was at an intermediate level in the estuaries during both the flood and nonflood *** concentrations of total phosphorus(TP),ammonia N(AN),and organic pollutants were greater in the Haihe River Basin than in the Liaohe River and Huanghe-Huaihe River *** concentration of total nitrogen(TN)in the Haihe River Basin was lower than that in the Liaohe River and Huanghe-Huaihe River *** metal concentrations in the Liaohe River Basin were greater than those in the Haihe River and Huanghe-Huaihe River *** annual mean concentrations of AN in the estuaries of the Haihe,Liaohe,and Huanghe(Yellow)rivers exhibited significant decreasing trends from 2013 to 2022,but no significant decreasing trends were found for permanganate index(COD_(Mn))or the *** concentrations of TN and AN were lower in the flood season than in the nonflood season,and the TP concentration was greater in the flood season than in the nonflood ***,the concentrations of organic pollutants did not exhibit significant *** sewage and industrial wastewater,substance exchange between air and water,nonpoint sources from rural and urban areas,and aquaculture wastewater were the major sources or factors responsible for water pollution in the estuaries.

Effect of Nb-V microalloying on the hot deformation behavior of medium Mn steels

The influence of Nb-V microalloying on the hot deformation behavior and microstructures of medium Mn steel(MMS)was investigated by uniaxial hot compression *** establishing the constitutive equations for simulating the measured flow curves,we successfully constructed deformation activation energy(Q)maps and processing maps for identifying the region of flow *** concluded the following consequences of Nb-V alloying for MMS.(i)The critical strain increases and the increment diminishes with the increasing deformation temperature,suggesting that NbC precipitates more efficiently retard dynamic recrystallization(DRX)in MMS compared with solute Nb.(ii)The deformation activation energy of MMS is significantly increased and even higher than that of some reported high Mn steels,suggesting that its ability to retard DRX is greater than that of the high Mn content.(iii)The hot workability of MMS is improved by narrowing the hot processing window for the unstable flow stress,in which fine recrystallized and coarse unrecrystallized grains are present.

Group frames via magic states with applications to SIC-POVMs and MUBs

We connect magic(non-stabilizer)states,symmetric informationally complete positive operator valued measures(SIC-POVMs),and mutually unbiased bases(MUBs)in the context of group frames,and study their *** states are quantum resources in the stabilizer formalism of quantum ***-POVMs and MUBs are fundamental structures in quantum information theory with many applications in quantum foundations,quantum state tomography,and quantum cryptography,*** this work,we study group frames constructed from some prominent magic states,and further investigate their *** method exploits the orbit of discrete Heisenberg-Weyl group acting on an initial fiducial *** quantify the distance of the group frames from SIC-POVMs and MUBs,*** a simple corollary,we reproduce a complete family of MUBs of any prime dimensional system by introducing the concept of MUB fiducial states,analogous to the well-known SIC-POVM fiducial *** present an intuitive and direct construction of MUB fiducial states via quantum T-gates,and demonstrate that for the qubit system,there are twelve MUB fiducial states,which coincide with the H-type magic *** compare MUB fiducial states and SIC-POVM fiducial states from the perspective of magic resource for stabilizer quantum *** further pose the challenging issue of identifying all MUB fiducial states in general dimensions.
