Chinese herbal medicine decreases incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma in diabetes mellitus patients with regular insulin management

BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM)is an independent risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),while insulin is a potent mitogen.Identifying a new therapeutic modality for preventing insulin users from developing HCC is a critical goal for researchers.AIM To investigate whether regular herbal medicine use can decrease HCC risk in DM patients with regular insulin control.METHODS We used data acquired from the Taiwan,Chinaese National Health Insurance research database between 2000 and 2017.We identified patients with DM who were prescribed insulin for>3 months.The herb user group was further defined as patients prescribed herbal medication for DM for>3 months per annum during RESULTS We initially enrolled 657144 DM patients with regular insulin use from 2000 to 2017.Among these,46849 patients had used a herbal treatment for DM,and 140547 patients were included as the matched control group.The baseline variables were similar between the herb users and nonusers.DM patients with regular herb use had a 12%decreased risk of HCC compared with the control group[adjusted hazard ratio(aHR)=0.88,95%CI=0.80–0.97].The cumulative incidence of HCC in the herb users was significantly lower than that of the nonusers.Patients with a herb use of>5 years cumulatively exhibited a protective effect against development of HCC(aHR=0.82,Plonger survival time than nonusers(aHR=0.78,P=0.0001).Additionally,we report the top 10 herbs and formulas in prescriptions and summarize the potential pharmacological effects of the constituents.Our analysis indicated that Astragalus propinquus(Huang Qi)plus Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge(Dan Shen),and Astragalus propinquus(Huang Qi)plus Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim.(Tian Hua Fen)were the most frequent combination of single herbs.Meanwhile,Ji Sheng Shen Qi Wan plus Dan Shen was the most frequent combination of herbs and formulas.CONCLUSION This large-scale retrospective cohort study reveals that herbal medicine may decrease HCC risk by 12%i

ZNF554 Inhibits Endometrial Cancer Progression via Regulating RBM5 and Inactivating WNT/β-Catenin Signaling Pathway

Objective:Uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma(UCEC),a kind of gynecologic malignancy,poses a significant risk to women’s health.The precise mechanism underlying the development of UCEC remains elusive.Zinc finger protein 554(ZNF554),a member of the Krüppel-associated box domain zinc finger protein superfamily,was reported to be dysregulated in various illnesses,including malignant tumors.This study aimed to examine the involvement of ZNF554 in the development of UCEC.Methods:The expression of ZNF554 in UCEC tissues and cell lines were examined by qRT-PCR and Western blot assay.Cells with stably overexpressed or knocked-down ZNF554 were established through lentivirus infection.CCK-8,wound healing,and Transwell invasion assays were employed to assess cell proliferation,migration,and invasion.Propidium iodide(PI)staining combined with fluorescence-activated cell sorting(FACS)flow cytometer was utilized to detect cell cycle distribution.qRT-PCR and Western blotting were conducted to examine relative mRNA and protein levels.Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay and luciferase reporter assay were used to explore the regulatory role of ZNF554 in RNA binding motif 5(RBM5).Results:The expression of ZNF554 was found to be reduced in both UCEC samples and cell lines.Decreased expression of ZNF554 was associated with higher tumor stage,decreased overall survival,and reduced disease-free survival in UCEC.ZNF554 overexpression suppressed cell proliferation,migration,and invasion,while also inducing cell cycle arrest.In contrast,a decrease in ZNF554 expression resulted in the opposite effect.Mechanistically,ZNF554 transcriptionally regulated RBM5,leading to the deactivation of the Wingless(WNT)/β-catenin signaling pathway.Moreover,the findings from rescue studies demonstrated that the inhibition of RBM5 negated the impact of ZNF554 overexpression onβ-catenin and p-glycogen synthase kinase-3β(p-GSK-3β).Similarly,the deliberate activation of RBM5 reduced the increase inβ-catenin and p-GSK-3βcaused by the suppression of ZNF554.In v

Adaptive event-triggered distributed optimal guidance design via adaptive dynamic programming

In this paper,the multi-missile cooperative guidance system is formulated as a general nonlinear multi-agent system.To save the limited communication resources,an adaptive eventtriggered optimal guidance law is proposed by designing a synchronization-error-driven triggering condition,which brings together the consensus control with Adaptive Dynamic Programming(ADP)technique.Then,the developed event-triggered distributed control law can be employed by finding an approximate solution of event-triggered coupled Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman(HJB)equation.To address this issue,the critic network architecture is constructed,in which an adaptive weight updating law is designed for estimating the cooperative optimal cost function online.Therefore,the event-triggered closed-loop system is decomposed into two subsystems:the system with flow dynamics and the system with jump dynamics.By using Lyapunov method,the stability of this closed-loop system is guaranteed and all signals are ensured to be Uniformly Ultimately Bounded(UUB).Furthermore,the Zeno behavior is avoided.Simulation results are finally provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Analyzing and De-Anonymizing Bitcoin Networks:An IP Matching Method with Clustering and Heuristics

The anonymity and de-anonymity of blockchain and Bitcoin have always been a hot topic in blockchain related research.Since Bitcoin was created by Nakamoto in 2009,it has,to some extent,deviated from its currency attribute as a trading medium but instead turned into an object for financial investment and operations.In this paper,the power-law distribution that the Bitcoin network obeys is given with mathematical proof,while traditional deanonymous methods such as clustering fail to satisfy it.Therefore,considering the profit-oriented characteristics of Bitcoin traders in such occasion,we put forward a de-anonymous heuristic approach that recognizes and analyzes the behavioral patterns of financial High-Frequency Transactions(HFT),with realtime exchange rate of Bitcoin involved.With heuristic approach used for de-anonymity,algorithm that deals with the adjacency matrix and transition probability matrix are also put forward,which then makes it possible to apply clustering to the IP matching method.Basing on the heuristic approach and additional algorithm for clustering,finally we established the de-anonymous method that matches the activity information of the IP with the transaction records in blockchain.Experiments on IP matching method are applied to the actual data.It turns out that similar behavioral pattern between IP and transaction records are shown,which indicates the superiority of IP matching method.

Petrogenesis and tectonic implications of the Silurian adakitic granitoids in the eastern segment of the Qilian Orogenic Belt,Northwest China

Geodynamic mechanism responsible for the generation of Silurian granitoids and the tectonic evolution of the Qilian orogenic belt remains controversial. In this study, we report the results of zircon U–Pb age, and systematic whole-rock geochemical data for the Haoquangou and Liujiaxia granitoids within the North Qilian orogenic belt and the Qilian Block, respectively, to constrain their petrogenesis, and the Silurian tectonic evolution of the Qilian orogenic belt. Zircon U–Pb ages indicate that the Haoquangou and Liujiaxia intrusions were emplaced at423 ± 3 Ma and 432 ± 4 Ma, respectively. The Haoquangou granodiorites are calc-alkaline, while the Liujiaxia granites belong to the high-K calc-alkaline series.Both are peraluminous in composition and have relatively depleted Nd isotopic [ε_(Nd)(t) =(-3.9 – + 0.6)] characteristics compared with regional basement rocks, implying their derivation from a juvenile lower crust. They show adakitic geochemical characteristics and were generated by partial melting of thickened lower continental crust. Postcollisional extensional regime related to lithospheric delamination was the most likely geodynamic mechanism for the generation of the Haoquangou granodiorite, while the Liujiaxia granites were generated in a compressive setting during continental collision between the Qaidam and Qilian blocks.

Offshore wind energy,as a form of renewable power,has seen rapid development in recent years.While fixedbottom wind turbines are typically used in water depths less than 50 m,the utilization of floating offshore wind turbines(FOWTs)becomes essential for deeper waters.Secure and effective mooring systems play a crucial role in making FOWTs commercially viable.The concept of a shared mooring system offers an innovative solution for deploying floating wind farms in clusters or arrays,which can reduce overall construction costs for large-scale floating wind farms.It is imperative to optimize the shared mooring arrangement for maximum cost-effectiveness and wind farm stability.However,implementing a shared mooring system introduces complexity to the dynamics of FOWTs,requiring the development of advanced simulation tools to meet modelling requirements.Under the shared mooring arrangement,mooring lines and anchors face more significant challenges,such as chain-seabed interactions,soil cyclic weakening,and anchor out-of-plane loading,which underscore the need for innovative,reliable,and efficient shared anchor designs.This article offers an overview of the current research status on shared mooring systems for floating wind farms,which might serve as a valuable reference for the construction of large-scale floating wind farms worldwide.

Deinterleaving of radar pulse based on implicit feature

In the complex countermeasure environment,the pulse description words(PDWs)of the same type of multi-function radar emitters are similar in multiple dimensions.Therefore,it is difficult for conventional methods to deinterleave such emitters.In order to solve this problem,a pulse deinterleaving method based on implicit features is proposed in this paper.The proposed method introduces long short-term memory(LSTM)neural networks and statistical analysis to mine new features from similar PDW features,that is,the variation law(implicit features)of pulse sequences of different radiation sources over time.The multi-function radar emitter is deinterleaved based on the pulse sequence variation law.Statistical results show that the proposed method not only achieves satisfactory performance,but also has good robustness.

Surrogate-assisted optimization for anti-ship missile body configuration considering high-velocity water touching

As a crucial weapon in the sea battle,anti-ship missiles generally employ a sea-skimming penetration strategy to reduce the probability of being detected by the target radar,which greatly increases the risk of touching water caused by sensor errors or random sea conditions.To alleviate the large impact load by high-velocity water touching,a novel anti-ship missile body configuration is proposed in this paper,which is inspired by the idea of hydroplaning.A parametric geometry model is first developed to modify the configuration of the anti-ship missile body.Subsequently,a structured arbitrary Lagrange-Eulerian based Fluid-Structure Interaction(FSI)model is established to analyze the kinematics parameters of the missile body during the hydroplaning process.A missile body configuration optimization problem is then formulated to minimize the impact load considering several constraints,e.g.,horizontal velocity loss,pitch angle after touching water,and inside capacity for payload.Due to the time-consuming FSI simulation,a Kriging-assisted constrained differential evolution method is utilized to optimize the missile body configuration for reducing the impact load.During the optimization process,radial basis function and Kriging are combined with evolutionary operators to lead the search to the vicinity of the optimum rapidly.The result shows that the proposed missile body configuration can reduce the impact load by 18.8%compared with the ordinary configuration.Additionally,the optimized configuration can further yield a 17.4%impact load decrease subject to all the constraints and avoid structural damage by the high-velocity water touching,which demonstrates the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed anti-ship missile body configuration and corresponding optimization framework for reducing the impact load.

Electrochemical reconstruction: a new perspective on Sn metal-organic complex microbelts as robust anode for lithium storage

Tin-based materials with high theoretical capacity and suitable working voltage are ideal anode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs). However, to overcome their shortcomings(volume expansion and inferior stability), the preparation processes are usually complicated and expensive. Herein, a tin-based metal-organic complex(tin 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, Sn-BDC)with one-dimensional microbelt morphology is synthesized by a facile, rapid and low-cost co-precipitation method, and served as anode material for LIBs without any post-treatment. Sn-BDC exhibits a high reversible capacity with609/440 m Ah·g^(-1) at 50/2000 m A·g^(-1), and robust cycling stability of 856 m Ah·g^(-1) after 200 cycles at 200 m A·g^(-1),which are obviously superior to that of the Sn Ox/C counterparts. Moreover, an electrochemical reconstruction perspective on the lithium storage mechanism of Sn-BDC is proposed by systematic ex-situ characterizations. The reconstructed SnO_(2) replaces Sn-BDC and becomes the active material in the subsequent cycles. As the by-product of the lithiation reaction, the formed Li-based metal-organic complex(Li-BDC, wrapped around the reconstructed SnO_(2)) plays an important role in alleviating volume expansion and accelerating the charge transfer kinetics.This work is beneficial to design and construct the new electrode materials based on the electrochemical reconstruction for advanced LIBs.

Minimum temperatures have remarkable impacts on tree growth at high-elevation sites on the Tibetan Plateau,but the shortage of long-term and high-resolution paleoclimate records inhibits understanding of recent minimum temperature anomalies.In this study,a warm season(April–September)reconstruction is presented for the past 467 years(1550–2016)based on Sabina tibetica ring-width chronology on the Lianbaoyeze Mountain of the central eastern Tibetan Plateau.Eight warm periods and eight cold periods were identified.long-term minimum temperature variations revealed a high degree of coherence with nearby reconstructions.Spatial correlations between our reconstruction and global sea surface temperatures suggest that warm season minimum temperature anomalies in the central eastern Tibetan Plateau were strongly influenced by large-scale ocean atmospheric circulations,such as the El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation.
