Objective:The study aimed to determine the faculty of the health sciences students’knowledge and attitudes regarding the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** and Methods:This cross-sectional survey was completed with 317 undergraduate students of one health sciences faculty in *** data were collected between March 1,2020,and March 15,2020,by face-to-face interviews using a questionnaire created by the ***,percentage,mean,standard deviation,and Pearson Chi-square test were used to evaluate the ***:In this study,a high proportion of students answered questions about COVID-19 *** 55.8%of the students took partial precautions against COVID-19 to protect themselves against COVID-19 and“frequent washing of hands”was the most common *** determined that the main reasons for not taking any precautions against COVID-19 were“low number of cases in Turkey”and“getting irritated by the mask.”About 98.4%of the participants were entirely/partially following the news on COVID-19,with social media being the most commonly used *** students took more protective measures than male *** 1st-year students had more positive thoughts about vaccination compared to those in the other ***:Although the knowledge of the students about COVID-19 was good in the first wave of the pandemic,more than half of the students stated that they partially complied with the protective measures.

Efficacy of interferon alpha-2b and lamivudine therapy for chronic hepatitis B in children

To evaluate the efficacy of interferon (IFN) alpha-2b and lamivudine therapy in children with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection Method Ten children who developed chronic hepatitis B infection received IFN alpha-2b 10 million international units (IU)/m 2 body surface area, subcutaneously three times a week for six months IFN+lamivudine therapy began to be used in the cases who were unresponsive to IFN treatment Results Among 27 HBsAg (+) subjects in this study, interferon treatment was given to 11 subjects who developed chronic hepatitis One case was excluded from the study due to detection of Herpes type 1 encephalitis At the end of six months of follow-up, complete response was obtained in three (30%) patients and partial response in four (40%) patients, whereas no response was detected in three (30%) patients Fifty percent of the cases experienced serological response, 70% biochemical response, and all (100%) had histological response In three cases started concomitant IFN+lamivudine therapy, HBV-DNA became negative at the second month of treatment Conclusions IFN-alpha and lamivudine can be used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection in children

On the fecundity of the bogue Boops boops(Linnaeus,1758)in the Turkish Aegean Sea

Objective:To determine the fecundity of Boops boops(***)from Aegean Sea coast of ***:A total of 470 specimens of *** were collected monthly from November in 2008 to October of 2009 in Izmir Bay(central Aegean Sea).Total length and total weight of each fish were measured and the maturity stages of gonads were *** 30 mature ovariums were taken to determine fecundity and oocysts were counted by using gravimetric ***:About 210 were females(44.7%)and 226 males(48.1%)while 34(7.2%)were hermafrodite in terms of sexuality with sex ratio(female:male)of 0.93:*** fecundity of the bogue was assessed by the gravimetric method with 30 ovaries from females between the total length of 19.6 and 27.6 cm[(mean:23.5±2.1)cm].Estimates of total fecundity varied between 33072 and 66123 oocytes(mean:49008±8826)and fecundity-total length,fecundity-weight relationships were expressed as:F=8207.6e^(0.075TL),F=30297e^(0.003TW)***:The results of the study will contribute to the reproductive biology of *** and will be useful for management of fisheries.

Determining of migraine prognosis using latent growth mixture models

Background This paper presents a retrospective study to classify patients into subtypes of the treatment according to baseline and longitudinally observed values considering heterogenity in migraine prognosis. In the classical prospective clinical studies, participants are classified with respect to baseline status and followed within a certain time period. However, latent growth mixture model is the most suitable method, which considers the population heterogenity and is not affected drop-outs if they are missing at random. Hence, we planned this comprehensive study to identify prognostic factors in migraine.

Long-Term Impacts of Tree Architectures and Branch Configurations on Tree Growth, Yield, Fruit Quality Attributes, and Leaf Minerals in “Aztec Fuji” Apple

Canopy and branch architectures in high-density orchards can be crucial in production and fruit quality. The influence of two canopy orientations (Upright and Tilted) in combination with two arm (branch) architectures (Shortened or Overlapped) on tree growth, yield components, fruit quality, and leaf mineral nutrients in an “Aztec Fuji” apple (Malus domestica Bork.) high-density orchard was studied over five years. Tilted trees with shortened arm configuration (TilShArm) always had significantly larger trunk cross-sectional area (TCSA) than Upright trees with an Overlapped arm configuration (UpOverArm) every year from 2012 to 2016. Trees with a TilShArm system had more cumulative fruit per tree than those with an Upright orientation. Trees with a tilted canopy (TilShArm and TilOverArm) tended to have higher yield per tree and yield per hectare than those with an upright system. Trees with a TilShArm system were more precocious and had more yield per tree than those with an upright canopy orientation in 2012. When values were polled over five years, trees with an upright canopy-shortened arm system (UpShArm) treatment had a lower biennial bearing index (BBI) than those with an upright canopy-overlapped system (UpOverArm). Trees receiving an arm shortening (UpShArm or TilShArm) configuration often had larger fruits than those with overlapped arms (UpOverArm and TilOverArm). Fruit from trees receiving an UpOverArm had higher fruit firmness than those from trees with other canopy-branch arrangements at harvest due to their smaller size. Fruit from trees with a TilShArm and TilOverArm had significantly higher water core and bitter pit but lower sunburn than trees with an upright canopy (UpShArm and UpOverArm). Leaves from trees with an UpOverArm canopy-branch configuration had the lowest leaf Ca but the highest leaf K and Fe concentrations among all treatments.

Valuing Water Resources in Turkey: A Case Study of Beyşehir Lake

Water resource management is critical to Turkey’s economy and environment. The country has about 112 billion m3 per year of economically exploitable water. However, population growth, climate change and pollution of water bodies are putting increasing pressure on these resources. In this context, understanding the contribution of water to the economy and environment is crucial for its conservation. To meet this need, the World Bank launched a program aiming at improving valuation and accounting systems of natural resources in Turkey. As part of this program, this article estimates in monetary terms the economic value of water in Bey?ehir Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Turkey. Valuation is based on the Total Economic Value concept, which includes use and non-use values. The results show that the economic value of water is about seven times higher than its financial value. In addition, the economic value of water allocated for municipal use (TL5/m3) is substantially greater than that supplied for irrigation (TL0.5/m3). The analysis suggests that allocation of water from Bey?ehir Lake among different uses is inefficient. To validate this conclusion and improve allocation, a more comprehensive assessment of the economic benefits of water resources is needed, particularly of water supply for irrigation, municipal use, recreation and biodiversity. The analysis also indicates that economic valuation can be a powerful tool to improve water management at the river basin level.

Effect of Aerobic High-Intensity Interval Training on VO2max and Anaerobic Power in Cross-Country Skiers

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether eight weeks of aerobic high-intensity interval training with roller ski is effective in cross-country skiers. 10 male （age, 18.28 ± 2.1 years; height, 171.26 ± 4.12 cm; weight 61.39 ± 6.28 kg） and 8 female （age, 16.05 ± 0.3 years; height, 158.3 ± 6.47 cm; weight, 49.34 ± 0.7 kg） junior cross country skiers completed the study. All skiers performed a 2 × 2-kin all-out uphill intervals with roller-skis, 3 times a week, in addition to their traditional training program. Measurements included VO2max （maximal oxygen uptake）, anaerobic power, and also for 2-km roller ski. All values were listed as pre-to post-test mean （± SD）, significant level, and percentage changes （%）. Pre-to post-testing changes in VO2max, anaerobic power, and also 2-kin roller ski performance were significantly higher during all post-test trials in all groups （P 〈 0.005）. With reference to the training effects found in our study, we suggest that the skiers should integrate the roller ski aerobic high-intensity interval uphill models in their training programs for improving performance.

An endothelial cell model containing cytoskeletal components: Suspension and adherent states

Endothelium is the interior layer of an artery made up of tremendous number of endothelial cells which are located side by side. Finding the effective parameters that cause the cells to obtain mechanical strength in different morphologies is an important issue in cell biomechanics. In this work a numerical model for a single endothelial cell is developed. This model includes cell’s plasma membrane and nucleus using the traingular network of spectrin level approach. Cy-toskeleton main components such as intermediate and actin filaments as well as microtubules are the other important subsets of the simulated model. Mass and spring theory is utilized in cytoskeleton components simulation. A spreading model is applied on the cell in order to simulate the adhesion on a substrate and test the model’s qualitative performance and the result is verified by the experiment. Also deformation of the cell caused by an external compressive force is another quantitative test which is predicted by the model and the results are validated with an experimental AFM test. The two most popular morphologies of the cells resulted from this work are the cell suspension morphology which is the result of no external forces and the cell adherent morphology which is the result of cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix. The mechanical stiffness of the endothelial cell is obtained in this simulation.

This study investigates the interaction and the effectiveness of two soil amendments: Gypsum and Polyacrylamide(PAM) in minimizing soil erosion under saline condition. Erosion measurements were carried out on a sandy loam soil in the 1m × 6 m Flume of Griffith University’s rainfall simulation facility(GUTSR). The results presented in this study suggest that by moderately increasing soil salinity(increasing EC from 0.5 to 4 dS/m). Soil erosion, as expressed in terms of sediment concentration and soil loss increased substantially. Sediment concentration increased 3.6 times and soil loss 4.6 times when compared with non-saline(control) soil. These findings have some important practical implications for agriculture on saline land. PAM can be successfully used for controlling or minimizing the adverse impacts of salinity such as increased erosion, surface sealing, and poor runoff water quality.
