Genetic association of interleukin-6 polymorphism (-174 G/C) with chronic liver diseases and hepatocellular carcinoma

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine which is expressed in many inflammatory cells in response to different types of stimuli, regulating a number of biological processes. The IL-6 gene is polymorphic in both the 5' and 3' flanking regions and more than 150 single nucleotide polymorphisms have been identified so far. Genetic polymorphisms of IL-6 may affect the outcomes of several diseases, where the presence of high levels of circulating IL-6 have been correlated to the stage and/or the progression of the disease itself. The -174 G/C polymorphism is a frequent polymorphism, that is located in the upstream regulatory region of the IL-6 gene and affects IL-6 production. However, the data in the literature on the genetic association between the -174 G/C polymorphism and some specific liver diseases characterized by different etiologies are still controversial. In particular, most of the studies are quite unanimous in describing a correlation between the presence of the high-producer genotype and a worse evolution of the chronic liver disease. This is valid for patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis and hepatocellu-lar carcinoma (HCC) whatever the etiology. Studies in hepatitis B virus-related chronic liver diseases are not conclusive, while specific populations like non alcoholic fatty liver disease/non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, autoimmune and human immunodeficiency virus/HCV coinfected patients show a higher prevalence of the lowproducer genotype, probably due to the complexity of these clinical pictures. In this direction, a systematic revision of these data should shed more light on the role of this polymorphism in chronic liver diseases and HCC.

Enhancing Dielectric and Mechanical Behaviors of Hybrid Polymer Nanocomposites Based on Polystyrene,Polyaniline and Carbon Nanotubes Coated with Polyaniline

The dielectric and mechanical properties of hybrid polymer nanocomposites of polystyrene/polyaniline/carbon nanotubes coated with polyaniline （pCNTs） have been investigated using impedance analyzer and extensometer. The blends of PS/PANI formed the heterogeneous phase separated morphology in which pCNTs are dispersed uniformly. The incorporation of a small amount of pCNTs into the blend of PS/PANI has remarkably increased the dielectric properties. Similarly, the AC conductivity of PS/PANI is also increased five orders of magnitude from 1.6 × 10^-10 to 2.0×10^-5 ***-1 in the hybrid nanocomposites. Such behavior of hybrid nanocomposites is owing to the interfacial polarization occurring due to the presence of multicomponent domains with varying conductivity character of the phases from insulative PS to poor conductor PANI to highly conductive CNTs. Meanwhile, the tensile modulus and tensile strength are also enhanced significantly up to 55% and 160%, respectively, without much loss of ductility for three phase hybrid nanocomposites as compared to the neat PS. Thereby, the hybrid nanocomposites of PS/PANI/pCNTs become stiffer, stronger and tougher as compared to the neat systems.

背景:根据文献统计,股骨干骨折相较于股骨远端骨折更为常见,致伤因素通常是交通事故等高暴力伤害,因此成年男性患者相对于女性患者数量更多。由于骨折数量多、损伤面积大、致伤因素复杂,如何通过手术等外科治疗改善预后变得很有挑战性。而且目前对于股骨骨折不同手术治疗的比较研究仍然不足。目的:本研究旨在通过文献检索股骨骨折的不同手术方式,比较患者的功能预后和术后并发症。方法:我们使用“股骨骨折”作为关键词系统地检索了三个开放数据库(Web of Science、Scopus和PubMed),纳入时间为2000年1月到2023年2月。我们利用PICOS(人口、干预、比较、结局和研究设计)策略进行研究选择和数据收集,并遵循系统综述和荟萃分析的首选报告项目(Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis,PRISMA)的建议,最终将结果作为叙述性综述提交。我们还使用软件“Zotero”管理引用文献、“Rayyan”进行随机对照试验(Randomized control trials,RCT)的数据分析。结果:在2026篇文章中,有8项RCT符合所有纳入标准,共分析了 968例不同类型的股骨骨折。我们发现了两篇关于股骨干骨折的文章,四篇关于股骨粗隆间骨折的文章,两篇关于股骨颈骨折的文章。主要预后指标是五项研究的髋关节和膝关节的活动范围;其他主要指标集中在行走功能、视觉模拟疼痛量表和肢体长度差异率。有趣的是,我们发现一些传统方法在手术花费和长期康复效果方面仍然优于现代手术。例如,对于股骨干骨折,机器人辅助手术干预并不优于常规方法,钛质螺钉明显比不锈钢贵,而术后结果没有显著差异。结论:对于股骨干骨折,闭合复位髓内针内固定比其他方法更有效;对于股骨颈骨折,骨水泥柄半髋关节置换术比常规方法更优越;对于粗隆间骨折,髓内固定和近端螺钉合理放置是有益的方法。

Evolution of plasma parameters in an Ar-N2/He inductive plasma source with magnetic pole enhancement

Magnetic pole enhanced inductively coupled plasmas （MaPE-ICPs） are a promising source for plasma-based etching and have a wide range of material processing applications. In the present study Langmuir probe and optical emission spectroscopy were used to monitor the evolution of plasma parameters in a MaPE-ICP Ar-Na/He mixture plasma. Electron density （ne） and temperature （Te）, excitation temperature （Texc）, plasma potential （Vp）, skin depth （6） and the evolution of the electron energy probability function （EEPF） are reported as a function of radiofrequency （RF） power, pressure and argon concentration in the mixture. It is observed that ne increases while Te decreases with increase in RF power and argon concentration in the mixture. The emission intensity of the argon line at 750.4 nm is also used to monitor the variation of the ‘high-energy tail＇ of the EEPF with RF power and gas pressure. The EEPF has a ‘bi-Maxwellian＇ distribution at low RF powers and higher pressure in a pure N2 discharge. However, it evolves into a ‘Maxwellian＇ distribution at RF powers greater than 70 W for pure N2, and at 50 W for higher argon concentrations in the mixture. The effect of argon concentration on the temperatures of two electron groups in the ‘bi-Maxwellian＇ EEPF is examined. The temperature of the low-energy electron group TL shows a decreasing trend with argon addition until the ‘thermalization＇ of the two temperatures occurs, while the temperature of high-energy electrons Ta decreases continuously.

Effect of Sb-doping on martensitic transformation and magnetocaloric effect in Mn-rich Mn50Ni40Sn10-Sb( = 1, 2, 3, and 4) alloys

We investigate the influence of Sb-doping on the martensitic transformation and magnetocaloric effect in Mn（50）Ni（40）Sn（10-x）Sbx（x = 1, 2, 3, and 4） alloys. All the prepared samples exhibit a B2-type structure with the space group F m3 m at room temperature. The substitution of Sb increases the valence electron concentration and decreases the unit cell volume. As a result, the magnetostructural transformation shifts rapidly towards higher temperatures as x *** changes in magnetic entropy under different magnetic field variations are explored around this transformation. The isothermal magnetization curves exhibit typical metamagnetic behavior, indicating that the magnetostructural transformation can be induced by a magnetic field. The tunable martensitic transformation and magnetic entropy changes suggest that Mn（50）Ni（40）Sn（10-x）Sbx alloys are attractive candidates for applications in solid-state refrigeration.

On the Constant Metric Dimension of Generalized Petersen Graphs P(n,4)

In this paper, we consider the family of generalized Petersen graphs P（n,4）. We prove that the metric dimension of P（n, 4） is 3 when n = 0 （mod 4）, and is 4 when n = 4k ＋ 3 （k is even）.For n = 1,2 （mod 4） and n = 4k ＋ 3 （k is odd）, we prove that the metric dimension of P（n,4） is bounded above by 4. This shows that each graph of the family of generalized Petersen graphs P（n, 4） has constant metric dimension.

Simple Approach on Intermixing Solar and Wind Energy and Minimizing Their Intermittent Effect

Renewable energy resources especially wind and solar energy are emerging as the modern power sources to electrify remote areas. The main reason behind their emergence is due to their environment-friendly behavior,unlimited availability and short period for replenishment over nonrenewable energy resources. Renewable energy resources are much better than nonrenewable energy resources, but the intermittency in renewable energy resources degrades the system performance. In order to overcome the intermittency, multiple hybrid system techniques were proposed in literature that can achieve suitable results but have disadvantages of complicated control structures and high implementation cost. Considering aforementioned shortcomings, a simple balancing approach is proposed to intermix solar and wind energy together so as to utilize the available energy from both sources at a given *** is very common that solar farms are the dominating source of energy in daytime and summer, while wind farms are the dominating source of energy at night and in winter. The proposed approach delivers maximum possible power to the load by combining dominating and non-dominating resources all the time, hence mitigating the intermittency of individual resources. Compared with other approaches, the proposed approach offers key benefits with redundancy, simple design and low cost, which can be analyzed from simulation results.

A wireless body area network(WBAN)consists of tiny healthmonitoring sensors implanted in or placed on the human *** sensors are used to collect and communicate human medical and physiological data and represent a subset of the Internet of Things(IoT)*** are connected to medical servers that monitor patients’*** type of network can protect critical patients’lives due to the ability to monitor patients’health continuously and *** inter-WBAN communication provides a dynamic environment for patients allowing them to move ***,during patient movement,the WBAN patient nodes may become out of range of a remote base ***,to handle this problem,an efficient method for inter-WBAN communication is *** this study,a method using a cluster-based routing technique is *** the proposed method,a cluster head(CH)acts as a gateway between the cluster members and the external network,which helps to reduce the network’s *** clustering,the cluster’s lifetime is a vital parameter for network ***,to optimize the CH’s selection process,three evolutionary algorithms are employed,namely,the ant colony optimization(ACO),multi-objective particle swarm optimization(MOPSO),and the comprehensive learning particle swarm optimization(CLPSO).The performance of the proposed method is verified by extensive experiments by varying values of different parameters,including the transmission range,node number,node mobility,and grid size.A comprehensive comparative analysis of the three algorithms is conducted by extensive *** results show that,compared with the other methods,the proposed ACO-based method can form clusters more efficiently and increase network lifetime,thus achieving remarkable network and energy *** proposed ACO-based technique can also be used in other types of ad-hoc networks as well.
