Beyond boundaries:Neuroprotective effects of steroids and ecdysteroids in SH-SY5Y cells-A systematic review

Steroids and ecdysteroids have been shown to exhibit a range of biological effects,including anti-inflammatory,anticancer,and *** systematic review aims to highlight the evidence-based neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of steroids and ecdysteroids in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells.A comprehensive literature search was conducted on May 11,2023,without publication source restrictions,using various electronic databases,including PubMed,Web of Science(WoS),Scopus,and Cumulative Index toNursing and Allied Health *** 103articles,only20 studies were included for investigating the neuroprotective effects of steroids and ecdysteroids in SH-SY5Y cells exposed to oxidative stress or neurotoxic *** risk of bias and quality assessment of the included studies were evaluated in accordance with the Nature Publication Quality Improvement Project specific *** selected studies reported the antioxidant effects of the tested compounds on SH-SY5Y cells and demonstrated their ability to scavenge free radicals and prevent lipid *** findings suggest that neurosteroids have potential therapeutic applications for the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by oxidative stress and neuronal *** studies have investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of steroids and ecdysteroids in SH-SY5Y *** mechanisms include the activation of antioxidant enzymes,such as superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase,and the modulation of various signaling pathways,including the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B and mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase *** review provides evidence that the tested compounds have remarkable neuroprotective and antioxidant effects in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells.

在太赫兹频段基于类电磁诱导透明效应(electromagnetically induced transparency, EIT)提出了一种高效率极化转化滤波器,通过非对称结构激励了多能级明模路径,在传统EIT干涉效应的基础上,获得了正交的圆极化转换窗口.通过两组具有相似共振频率的明模相互干涉产生透射窗口,然后构造非对称结构来实现TE和TM极化下的透射窗口偏移,从而实现双频点极化转换.该超材料的单元结构由4个开口T型金属谐振组成.通过分析表面电流分布、频率响应特性以及入射角特性,探究了其工作机理.研究结果显示,该设计在不同极化下实现了电磁诱导透明现象.随后,基于两个入射极化的EIT共振,在0.692 THz处实现了线极化到右旋圆极化转换和0.782 THz处实现了线极化到左旋圆极化转换,透射系数分别为0.7和0.68.这种基于EIT的极化转化具有低损耗和超薄的特点,在紧凑型天线、衍生雷达相控阵和军事工业探测器领域有潜在应用价值.

提出了一种新型的多功能超材料滤波器/屏蔽器,其具有双频段极化独立控制、多模式可切换等特点。与传统器件不同的是,所提出的设计能够独立控制横电(TE)或横磁(TM)极化波在不同频段的透射和反射,并且通过设置不同的二极管偏置电压,可以实现4种不同的工作模式。该结构基于等效电路模型,采用多层滤波结构设计,通过在顶层和底层加载PIN二极管实现TE和TM极化波在低频段和高频段的独立控制。在传输模式下,TE和TM波分别在3.6 GHz和4.6 GHz附近得以传输;在屏蔽模式下,该结构可以有效地阻挡入射极化波。每种模式都有非常稳定的工作状态,不会受到其他工作模式的影响。此外,该设计在0°~45°入射范围内具有良好的角度稳定性。这种多模式超材料结构可以应用于天线罩等领域,天线传输信号时能满足对特定极化信号的需求,待机时可以屏蔽信号以减少干扰。

An Antenna Like Form “Hand” of the Man on Five Bands Wlan/Wimax/Hiper LAN2/C-Band Applications

In this paper, a new form of printed antenna for a five-band C-band applications is presented. The proposed antenna consists of six simple rectangles, whose geometry resembles all the “hand” of man. By varying the geometries and dimensions of these six rectangles, five different resonance modes can be effectively created for five distinct frequency bands, respectively. The overall dimension of the proposed antenna can reach 45 × 50 × 2.54 mm3. The simulated results show that the presented antenna is adapted to 4.6/5.24/5.6/6.7/7.3 GHz five bands which are applied to C-band.

Till now, the most studies of Lyman alpha line are concerned only by the Stark effect. In our knowledge few investigations are developed for the plasmas subjected to a magnetic field. In this paper we present the combined effect, Stark-Zeeman, on the spectral line shape. The dynamic effects due to the time fluctuation of the electric microfield and the radiation polarization are also taken into account.

A Rare Retroperitoneal Mass:Leiomyosarcoma of the Inferior Vena Cava

Leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare soft tissue tumor, mesenchymal in origin that arises from smooth muscles of tunica media;it accounts for about 0.5% of all soft tissue sarcomas, and it is the commonest vascular leiomyosarcoma. The tumor progression is slow, and it is asymptomatic until advanced stage in which involvement of surrounding structures even when the symptoms present are nonspecific. Presentation of Case: A 60 years old lady presented with upper abdominal pain for 3 months duration. Past surgical history was significant for Hysterectomy 15 years ago. On examination: soft abdomen, palpable non pulsating right hypochondrial mass. Ultrasound of the abdomen showed tumor of the head of pancreas. CT scan showed large retroperitoneal tumor extending from the head of pancreas to IVC. Trans abdominal CT guided FNAC showed retroperitoneal sarcoma while Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was proved to be Leiomyosarcoma of the IVC. Discussion: Leiomyosarcoma of inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare soft tissue tumor, mesenchymal in origin that arises from smooth muscles of tunica media;it accounts for about 0.5% of all soft tissue sarcomas, and it is the commonest vascular leiomyosarcoma. The type of surgical management is a matter of debate and includes resection alone, primary repair/cavoplasty, or replacement with a graft. Reconstruction of the IVC is not always required especially in chronic occlusions. Conclusion: Despite all the advanced modalities, surgery remains the most effective method for treatment of Leiomyosarcoma.

The Use of Sputum Dashboard and Dispatch Riders in Mitigating Delay in Sputum Samples’ Processing—Evidence from an Intervention in Lagos State, Nigeria

The act of referring TB presumptive individuals after verbal screening to another health facility/diagnostic centres for testing often results in large loss to follow-up, owing to the many barriers people face in accessing care. The transportation of sputum samples is an efficient method of increasing access to tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics in areas where testing is not currently available. One of the major reasons for the low yield of TB cases in the field was delay in sputum sample transportation to diagnostic laboratories among other factors. Damien Foundation Belgium, carried out a unique sputum riders initiatives in 20 LGAs of Lagos state between Q3-2019 and Q4-2020. A total of 25 sputum dispatch riders across the 20 LGAs in the State who are monitored routinely on an electronic dashboard were engaged for sputum logistics. Therefore, this report highlights how the initiatives have contributed to increased TB case notification in a densely populated metropolitan city in Nigeria. Overall, 48,265 units of sputum samples were transported to the laboratory from the facilities 99.9% of results which were received from the laboratory by the dispatch riders. The contribution of sputum riders to the overall TB case detection by the project progressively increased from 9% when the intervention began to 57% as at Q4 2020. The transportation of sputum samples by motorcycle dispatch riders is an efficient method of increasing access to TB diagnostic services in communities where testing is not currently available.

Introduction: Tuberculosis is one of the leading causes of mortalities attributable to an infectious disease. In a private sector-driven health system such as Nigeria, the private health providers are very important stakeholders in tuberculosis diagnosis and management. Unfortunately, there are few data on the level of contribution of these private health providers to the case finding and notification of tuberculosis in Nigeria. Consequently, this study assessed the contribution of the private providers to the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis under the Global Fund Private Public Mix New Funding Model (2nd phase) grant (GF PPM NFM2) in the four implementing states of south west Nigeria. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of the NFM2 programme implementation data collected between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020. Data was extracted from the routine registers such as the presumptive TB registers;treatment register of the private health facilities engaged for PPM activities between 2019 and 2020.
