Lung cancer is the major cause of death in the neoplastic diseases. In spite of the advances in the chemotherapy, the lung cancer treatments are still complex and costly, being necessary the seeking of new drugs. In this context, the ursolic acid (UA) becomes the target of studies that investigate its antitumor potential and, thus, structural modifications can enhance its biological activities. Eight UA semisynthetic derivative compounds (UAD1-8) were synthesized and evaluated their cytotoxic activity against human alveolar adenocarcinoma cells (A549). UAD1, UAD3, UAD5, UAD6 and UAD8 were able to reduce the viability of the A549 cells. Only UAD1 and UAD6 reduced the viability at 24 h, and only UAD3 didn’t reduce the NF-κB expression. The compound UAD1 showed the greater apoptosis induction. Moreover, the compound UAD1 showed better results than UA in all assays. The present study shows, for the first time, the action of these compounds in the apoptotic effect, in the expression of NF-κB and in the A549 cell line. The ursolic acid derivatives showed substantial results in the apoptosis, cytotoxicity and NF-κB inhibition of A549 cells, and further studies are necessary for the development of possible new therapeutic drugs.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the use of propinox hydrochloride and scopolamine hydrochloride in patients presenting abdominal colic (abdominal pain), in terms of treatment efficacy and tolerability. Material & Methods: This was an analytical, retrospective, comparative study based on hospital records of outpatients treated at Serviço de Clínica Médica do Hospital das Clínicas Costantino Otaviano (HCTCO) and at Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro, from 1988-1998. Subjects were divided into two groups: patients from Group 1 were treated with propinox hydrochloride, while patients from Group 2 were treated with scopolamine hydrochloride. Statistical analysis was performed using GraphPad Prism version 5.0. For comparison of categorical variables, we used the chi-squared or Fisher’s test, while continuous variables were analyzed using ANOVA or the Student’s T test. Results: A total of 1042 subjects were included, of which 525 were allocated to Group 1 and 517 to Group 2. Mean treatment duration was 9.166 days (±4.208) in Group 1 and 8.795 days (±5.052) in Group 2, with no statistically significant difference in treatment duration between the two groups (p = 0.198). All subjects in Group 1 were treated with propinox 10 mg (2 coated tablets, three times per day) while all subjects in Group 2 were treated with scopolamine hydrochloride 10 mg (2 coated tablets, three times per day). There were no statistically significant between-group differences in weight, BMI, heart rate, and respiratory rate at pre- and post-treatment;with the exception of higher post-treatment systolic blood pressure in Group 1, blood pressure measures also remained homogenous. Adverse events were reported among both treatment groups with no significant between-group difference in incidence (p = 0566). The Psychological Emergency Service(PES)at psychology school clinics is an unscheduled and free psychological service to meet urgent *** this service,some patients whose complaints require more time for clinical work are referred to the Extended Screening(ES),a modality composed of six extra *** study aims to analyze the sociodemographic profile of patients seen on PES in a Brazilian Psychology School Clinic,and to identify the demands that motivated referral to the ES,for better qualification of the care *** is a descriptive analysis research,carried out based on data from the medical records of 46 patients who went through the PES and were referred to the ES at the institution,between the years 2019 and *** data were collected and,from the session reports,a content analysis of the thematic analysis modality was performed to identify the *** participants’age ranged from 18 to 65 years,with a mean of 32.28 years(sd=10.95).There was a predominance of female participants(71.74%),that completed High School(39.14%)and had an income from one to two Brazilian minimum wages(32.61%).The most frequent complaints were depressive symptoms(56.52%)and difficulties in interpersonal relationships(32.61%).The results obtained,besides allowing the survey of the social and demographic profile of the clientele of the PES at the Psychology School Clinic,and demonstrating its social relevance by providing free psychological care,also show to be of great importance for the definition of more accurate criteria for referral to the ES of patients seen on PES.

Objective:This study aims to discuss the caregiving practices developed by Long-term Care Facilities(LTCFs)during the COVID-19 pandemic and analyze the daily care practices in long-term institutions for older adults in Brazil,all in light of the PCC ***:This is a mixed methods study in which data were collected through interviews with managers from 10 *** qualitative discussion was carried out through the PCC framework divided into 5 categories:leisure,accommodation,food,hygiene and comfort,and clinical *** quantitative data collected were analyzed in a descriptive way,being discussed in the light of the ***:Analyzed LTCFs are unaware of our present difficulties in the implementation of PCC,with a greater presence of the traditional biomedical model being *** the vulnerabilities that the LTCFs present,PCC is an important alternative for LTCFs to promote the quality of life and autonomy of *** the vision of LTCFs as a last resort of care and investing in the quality of care is an urgent and essential imperative for dignified and comprehensive ***:This study highlights the need for a change in culture and understanding of the LTCFs not only as a place to provide healthcare,but also as a residents’home that fosters their autonomy,and feeling of ***,it is essential to ensure that healthcare teams in LTCFs know about PCC and that further studies investigate the impact on the costs of PCC for institutionalized older adults.

dear Editor,The severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is associated with ***,such as low-molecular-weight heparin,warfarin,thrombin inhibitors,and factor Xa(FXa)inhibitors,are thus recommended by the American Society of Hematology and National Institutes of Health for COVID-19 patients(Wenzler et al.,2020;Adam et al.,2021).Clinical trials with anticoagulants have shown the increased survival of critically ill COVID-19 patients under non-invasive and invasive ventilatory assistance(Wenzler et al.,2020;Adam et al.,2021),along with decreased consumption of platelets and clotting factors and a reduced risk of hemorrhage(Adam et al.,2021).Among the anti-clotting agents,early use of orally available FXa and thrombin inhibitors(Chowdhury et al.,2020;Rentsch et al.,2021)prevented high levels of D-dimer,which is the final product from the clotting/fibrinolysis cascade and is directly implicated with severe COVID-19(Rentsch et al.,2021).

The coconut fiber is produced in large quantities in Brazil, even though very small quantities are being used by some industries, mainly cordage mats and handicrafts. An alternative usage would be the use of these fibers in biosorption of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. This present study aimed to evaluate the potentiality of cadmium biosorption by coconut fiber. The coconut fibers were used at kinetic analysis, influence ofpH and adsorption isotherms were also carried out. It can be concluded that there is great potential for the use of coconut fiber, and the optimum pH for adsorption was around 5.0. The adsorption kinetics is fast and equilibrium occurs within 120 min. The Langmuir isotherm was considered the most suitable to describe the experimental data.
