The objective of this study was to evaluate the concentration and distribution of heavy metals in the sediments of Paulo Gorski Lake, as well as the metals’ bioavailability and potential ecological risk, and to define the anthropogenic and natural heavy metal contributions to the lake. The chemical elements calcium(Ca), cadmium(Cd), cobalt(Co), chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), iron(fe), potassium(K), magnesium(Mg), manganese(Mn), sodium(Na), nickel(Ni), lead(Pb), and zinc(Zn) were quantified by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry with two extraction methods to quantify the bioavailable and nonbioavailable fractions. The data were evaluated using multivariate statistics and sediment quality *** sediment collection points(s1, s2, s3, s4 and s5) are different in terms of the concentration of heavy metals, except for s4 and s5, which were statistically equal. The bioavailable fraction of the elements in the sediment follows the sequence Pb > Cu > Mn > Zn > Ni > Cr > phosphorus(P) for all points. The elements Co, Cr, Pb, and Zn showed moderate to considerable contamination at all points. Only points s3 and s5 had moderate ecological risk. Urbanization has been affecting Paulo Gorski Lake via the input of chemical elements, especially Co and Pb. The points most affected by heavy metal contamination are s3 and s5 when the sedimentological sensitivity factor is considered. The lake has high hydrodynamics,causing some of the contaminants that enter the system to leave it, leading to potential negative impacts downstream.

The most fundamental influence in the breastfeeding process is the father’s support. The mother feels safer in breastfeeding when she has her partner’s support and a more active and effective participation. This study aimed at evaluating the father’s knowledge about breastfeeding in a quantitative approach through a transversal cohort study, interviewing 78 fathers in a public maternity in salvador. The average age of the interviewees was 29.9 years and 53.8% had an incomplete fundamental schooling. regarding knowledge of the subject, 10.3% believed that breastfeeding can be substituted. All fathers interviewed answered that they support breastfeeding for their children and believe in its benefits;39.7% reported that their opinion could interfere their partner’s decision to prolong the process. Moreover, 69.2% of the males attended their partner’s antenatal meetings, and of these, over a third had no intervention on the subject. Of all the participants, 80.8% confirmed that they had participated in the breastfeeding process and emphasized their gratification during this phase. About the paternal opinion, 39.7% believed that there is a degree of influence over the partner’s decision to breastfeed, and for that reason 50% told the mother their opinion. The study widened the knowledge about the role of the father in breastfeeding, ratifying the importance of their support towards the mother in this process, ultimately contributing to improving the practice and benefiting the mother-child relationship. Therefore, we conclude that those interviewed have some knowledge about breastfeeding, recognize its importance during the process and would like to know more.

BACKGrOUND The evaluation of periportal fibrosis(PPf)is essential for a prognostic assessment of patients with schistosomiasis *** WHO Niamey Protocol defines patterns of fibrosis from abdominal ultrasonography,^(1)H-nuclear magnetic resonance(NMr)-based metabonomics has been employed to assess liver fibrosis in some *** To build 1H-NMr-based metabonomics models(MM)to discriminate mild from significant periportal PPf and identify differences in the metabolite *** A prospective cross-sectional study was performed on schistosomiasis patients at a University Hospital in Northeastern *** evaluated 41 serum samples from 10 patients with mild PPf(C Niamey pattern)and 31 patients with significant PPf(D/E/f Niamey patterns).MM were built using partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLs-DA)and orthogonal projections to latent structures discriminant analysis(OPLs-DA)*** PLs-DA and OPLs-DA resulted in discrimination between mild and significant PPf groups with r2 and Q2 values of 0.80 and 0.38 and 0.72 and 0.42 for each model,*** OPLs-DA model presented accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity values of 92.7%,90.3%,and 100%to discriminate significant *** metabolites identified as responsible by discrimination were:Nacetylglucosamines,alanine,glycolaldehyde,carbohydrates,and *** MMs discriminated mild from significant PPf patterns in patients with schistosomiasis mansoni through identification of differences in serum metabolites profiles.

The concept “fetal programming” shows who still in the intrauterine life, can interfere in factors related to the genesis and development of diseases in childhood, adolescence and adult life. The literature shows that children born to mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are at increased risk for the development of obesity in adulthood, it becomes fundamental to study more about the subject. Obesity is a disease of multifactorial etiology, resulting from complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors. However, the marked increase in its incidence, precocity and severity are not yet fully understood. several findings suggest that stressor stimuli (e.g. diabetes, nutritional changes) during intrauterine development may promote epigenetic changes, as well as affect mitochondrial metabolism, which may modulate fetal development and predispose to the late development of diseases. Despite the considerable amount of evidence accumulated about intrauterine programming for diseases of adult life, the determinant mechanisms of such programming are not yet clear.

Background:New insecticides with a novel mode of action such as neonicotinoids have recently been recommended for public health by *** monitoring of such novel insecticides requires a robust protocol to monitor the development of resistance in natural *** this study,we comparatively used three different solvents to assess the susceptibility of malaria vectors to neonicotinoids across ***:Mosquitoes were collected from May to July 2021 from three agricultural settings in Cameroon(Njombe-Penja,Nkolondom,and Mangoum),the Democratic republic of Congo(Ndjili-Brasserie),Ghana(Obuasi),and Uganda(Mayuge).Using the CDC bottle test,we compared the effect of three different solvents(ethanol,acetone,MErO)on the efficacy of neonicotinoids againstAnopheles gambiae *** addition,TaqMan assays were used to genotype key pyrethroid-resistant markers *** and odds ratio based on fisher exact test were used to evaluate potential cross-resistance between pyrethroids and ***:Lower mortality was observed when using absolute ethanol or acetone alone as solvent for clothianidin(11.4-51.9% mortality in Nkolondom,31.7-48.2% in Mangoum,34.6-56.1% in Mayuge,39.4-45.6% in Obuasi,83.7-89.3% in Congo and 71.1-95.9% in Njombe pendja)compared to acetone+MErO for which 100% mortality were observed for all the *** observations were done for imidacloprid and *** assays(PBO,DEM and DEf)with clothianidin revealed a significant increase of mortality suggesting that metabolic resistance mechanisms are contributing to the reduced susceptibility.A negative association was observed between the L1014f-kdr mutation and clothianidin resistance with a greater frequency of homozygote resistant mosquitoes among the dead than among survivors(Or=0.5;P=0.02).However,the I114T-GsTe2 was in contrast significantly associated with a greater ability to survive clothianidin with a higher frequency of homozygote resistant among surv
