This work presents a new approach to establishing the minimum requirements for anti-islanding protection of distributed energy resources(DERs)with focus on bulk power system *** proposed approach aims to avoid cascade disconnection of DERs during major disturbances in the transmission network and to compromise as little as possible the detection of real islanding *** proposed approach concentrates on the rate-of-change of frequency(RoCoF)protection function and it is based on the assessment of dynamic security regions with the incorporation of a new and straightforward approach to represent the disconnection of DERs when analyzing the bulk power system ***,the impact of disconnection of DERs on the Brazilian Interconnected Power System(BIPS)stability is analyzed,highlighting the importance of modeling such disconnection in electromechanical stability studies,even considering low penetration levels of ***,the proposed approach is applied to the BIPS,evidencing its benefits when specifying the minimum requirements of anti-islanding protection,without overestimating them.

Homogeneous gold nanoparticles were synthesized under atmospheric pressure using a nonthermal helium plasma jet in a single-step process.A current power supply was used to generate the plasma discharge rich in diverse reactive *** species induce rapid chemical reactions responsible for the reduction of the gold salts upon contact with the liquid *** this study,spherical and monodispersed gold nanoparticles were obtained within 5 min of plasma exposure using a solution containing gold(Ⅲ)chloride hydrate(HAuCl_(4))as a precursor and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)as a capping agent to inhibit *** formation of these metal nanoparticles was initially perceptible through a visible change in the sample's color,transitioning from light yellow to a red/pink *** was subsequently corroborated by UVvis spectroscopy,which revealed an optical absorption in the 520-550 nm range for Au NPs,corresponding to the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)*** investigation into the impact of various parameters,including plasma discharge duration,precursor and capping agent concentrations,was carried out to optimize conditions for the formation of well-separated,spherical gold *** light scattering(DLS)was used to measure the size of these nanoparticles,transmission electron microscopy(TEM)was used to observe their morphology and X-ray diffraction(XRD)was also employed to determine their crystallographic *** results confirm that homogeneous spherical gold nanoparticles with an average diameter of 13 nm can be easily synthesized through a rapid,straightforward,and environmentally friendly approach utilizing a helium atmospheric pressure plasma.

Testing rocket and space technology objects in ground conditions for resistance to the impact of meteoroids and fragments of space debris can be carried out using shaped charges. To substantiate the design parameters of shaped charges that ensure the formation of aluminum particles in a wide velocity range(from 2.5 to 16 km/s), numerical modeling of the formation process was carried out within the framework of a two-dimensional axisymmetric problem of continuum mechanics using three different computing codes to increase the reliability of the results. The calculations consider shaped charges with a diameter of 20-100 mm with aluminum liners of various shapes. It is shown that the formation of particles with velocities close to the lower limit of the considered range is ensured by gently sloping segmental liners of degressive thickness. To form higher-velocity particles with velocities over 5 km/s, it is proposed to use combined liners, the jet-forming part of which has the shape of a hemisphere of constant thickness or the shape of a semi-ellipsoid or semi-superellipsoid of rotation of degressive thickness.

Many bird species use social information to guide territory *** species in different habitats may use both pre-breeding and post-breeding conspecific *** agricultural fields are of particular interest for studies of conspecific attraction because the ephemeral nature of the habitat suggests territory search just before breeding,but high predation pressure suggests the use of performance-based conspecific *** investigated whether post-breeding or pre-breeding social cues affect Whinchat(Saxicola rubetra)abundance at the territorial scale during a two-year experiment in abandoned *** assigned 27 experimental plots(3.14 ha)to one of three treatments:post-breeding treatment,pre-breeding treatment and silent *** conducted playback experiments with fledgling calls(evidence of past reproductive success)during the post-breeding period and male songs(evidence of conspecific presence)during the pre-breeding *** estimated the difference in Whinchat abundance in two consecutive years and tested whether this value differed between treatment and control *** observed a slight increase(0.67±0.29 pairs per plot)in Whinchat abundance in the post-breeding treatment plots and no significant changes in the pre-breeding(-0.22±0.32 pairs per plot)and control(-0.22±0.22 pairs per plot)*** results suggest that Whinchats do not use conspecific acoustic cues during the pre-breeding period and provide limited evidence for the use of fledgling calls as conspecific cues in the post-breeding period.

To predict the key parameters of the solar cycle, a new method is proposed based on the empirical law describing the correlation between the maximum height of the preceding solar cycle and the entropy of the forthcoming one. The entropy of the forthcoming cycle may be estimated using this empirical law, if the maximum height of the current cycle is known. The cycle entropy is shown to correlate well with the cycle＇s maximum height and, as a consequence, the height of the forthcoming maximum can be estimated. In turn, the correlation found between the height of the maximum and the duration of the ascending branch （the Waldmeier rule） allows the epoch of the maximum, Tmax, to be estimated, if the date of the minimum is known. Moreover, using the law discovered, one can find out the analogous cycles which are similar to the cycle being forecasted, and hence, obtain the synoptic forecast of all main features of the forthcoming cycle. The estimates have shown the accuracy level of this technique to be 86%. The new regularities discovered are also interesting because they are fundamental in the theory of solar cycles and may provide new empirical data. The main parameters of the future solar cycle 24 are as follows： the height of the maximum is Wmax = 95±20, the duration of the ascending branch is Ta = 4.5±0.5 yr, the total cycle duration according to the synoptic forecast is 11.3 yr.

Nanoporous gold （np-Au） is an emerging nanostructured material that exhibits many desirable properties, including high electrical and thermal conductivity, high surface area-to-volume ratio, tunable pore morphology well-established surface-binding chemistry, and compatibility with microfabrication. These features make np-Au a popular material for use in fuel cells, optical and electrical biosensors, drug delivery vehicles, neural electrode coatings, and as a model system for nanoscale mechanics. In each of its many applications, np-Au morphology plays an essential role in the overall device operation. Therefore, precise morphological control is necessary to attain optimal device performance. Traditionally thermal treatment by furnaces and hot plates is used to obtain np-Au with self-similar but coarser morphologies. However, this approach lacks the ability to create different morphologies on a single substrate and requires high temperatures （〉 250 ℃） incompatible with most plastic substrates. Herein, we report electro-annealing as a novel method that permits control of the extent and location of pore coarsening on a single substrate in one fast treatment step. The electro-annealing entails much lower temperatures （〈 150 ℃） than traditional thermal treatment, putatively due to electrically assisted phenomena contributing to the thermally activated surface diffusion of gold atoms, responsible for coarsening. Overall, this approach is easily scaled to display multiple pore morphologies on a single chip, therefore enabling high-throughput screening of optimal nanostructures for specific applications.

Hyperthyroxinemia at birth: a cause of idiopathic neonatal hyperbilirubinemia?

Background Some neonates develop idiopathic hyperbilirubinemia (INHB) requiring phototherapy, yet with no identifi able causes. We searched for an association between abnormal thyroid levels after birth and INHB. Methods Of 5188 neonates, 1681 (32.4%) were excluded due to one or more risk factors for hyperbilirubinemia. Total thyroxine (TT4) and thyroid stimulating hormone values were sampled routinely at 40-48 hours of age and measured in the National Newborn Screening Program. Results Of the 3507 neonates without known causes for hyperbilirubinemia, 61 (1.7%) developed INHB and received phototherapy. Univariate analyses found no signifi cant association between mode of delivery and INHB (vacuum-delivered neonates were a priori excluded). Nonetheless, in cesarean-delivered (CD) neonates, two variables had signifi cant asso-ciation with INHB: TT4 ≥ 13 μg/dL and birth at 38-38.6 weeks. In vaginally delivered (VD) born neonates, INHB was associated with weight loss > 7.5% up to 48 hours of age. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed a strong eff ect of mode of delivery on possible signifi cant association with INHB. In CD neonates, such variables included: TT4 ≥ 13 μg/dL [P = 0.025, odds ratio (OR) 5.49, 95% confi dence interval (CI) 1.23-24.4] and birth at 38-38.6 weeks (P = 0.023, OR 3.44, 95% CI 1.19-9.97). In VD neonates, weight loss > 7.5% (P = 0.019, OR 2.1, 95% CI 1.13-3.83) and 1-min Apgar score 7.5% in VD neonates. We herein highlight some acknowledged risk factors for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, and thus minimize the rate of INHB.
