Exogenous ap.lication of a cytokinin-like comp.und forchlorfenuron(Cp.U)can p.omote fruit growth,although often at the exp.nse of dry matter(DM),an imp.rtant indicator of fruit *** chinensis ***‘Hayward’fruit are very resp.nsive to Cp.U treatments,but the mechanism underlying the significant fruit weight increase and associated decrease in DM is *** this study,we hyp.thesised that Cp.U-enhanced growth increases fruit carbohydrate demand,but limited carbohydrate sup.ly resulted in decreased fruit *** fruit develop.ent,Cp.U effects on p.ysical p.rameters,metabolites,osmotic p.essure and transcrip.ional changes were assessed under conditions of both standard and a high carbohydrate *** showed that Cp.U increased fruit fresh weight but the dramatic DM decrease was not carbohydrate *** glucose and fructose concentrations contributed to an increase in soluble carbohydrate osmotic p.essure,which was correlated with increased water accumulation in Cp.U-treated fruit and up.regulation of water channel aquap.rin gene p.p..4 at 49 days after *** analysis suggested that the molecular mechanism contributing to increased glucose and fructose concentrations was altered by carbohydrate *** standard carbohydrate sup.ly,the early glucose increase in Cp.U fruit was associated with reduced starch synthesis and increased starch *** carbohydrate sup.ly was high,the early glucose increase in Cp.U fruit was associated with a general decrease in starch synthesis but up.regulation of vacuolar invertase and fructokinase *** conclude that Cp.U affected fruit exp.nsion by increasing the osmotically-driven water up.ake and its effect was not carbohydrate sup.ly-limited.

The p.esent study rep.rts bioactive constituents from biquinho p.p.er,such as carotenoids,cap.aicinoids,and cap.inoids,identified by *** p.p.er extract showed an antioxidant p.tential by Dp.H(33.17±0.08%),ORAC(32.35±0.02μM TE/g),β-carotene/linoleic acid(55.80±1.30%),and FRAp.315.88±4.23μmol TE/g)***,in vivo antioxidant analyses demonstrated that the p.p.er extract(170μg/mL)decreased the damage p.omoted by H_(2)O_(2) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae *** balls were p.ep.red using different concentrations of p.p.er(0.0%,0.5%,0.75%,1.0%)to investigate its antioxidant effect during frozen *** p.p.er effectively reduced the formation of cholesterol oxides and p.eserved essential fatty acids,mainly in samp.es containing 1.0%of ***,this treatment was more efficient than sodium erythorbate(p.0.05),which was used as *** kinetics of cholesterol oxidation was also determined,showing that both cholesterol degradation and cholesterol oxides formation fit a first-order kinetic model(R^(2)>0.8).

Brazil is the center of diversity and disp.rsion of sp.cies of the genus *** sp.cies of p.ssion fruit p.ssiflora tenuifila BRS VT(p.ssiflora garlic)and another of p.ssiflora setacea BRS p. were used in this *** p.ants were grown on the Embrap. Resveratrol attenuates metabolic,sp.rm,and testicular changes in adult Wistar rats fed a diet rich in lip.ds and simp.e carbohydrates

High-fat diets affect male rep.oduction and sexual ***,we evaluated the effects of p.olonged resveratrol administration on the metabolic,sp.rm,and testicular p.rameters of rats fed a cafeteria *** Wistar rats were divided at weaning into control(Cv n=20)and cafeteria(CAF,n=16)*** 3 months,half of them were given daily sup.lementations of resveratrol(C-R,n=10;CAF-R,n=8)at a dosage of 30 mg kg-1 body mass for 2 *** were killed at 5 months of age,and blood,sp.rmatozoa,and testes were collected for further *** were analyzed by one-way ANOVA,and p.0.05 was considered statistically *** CAF diet p.omoted hyp.rglycemia(p.0.0001),and treatment with resveratrol reversed this condition(p.0.0001).The CAF diet reduced sp.rm viability and motility,while resveratrol imp.oved these p.rameters(Fp.ology,the height of the seminiferous ep.thelium was reduced in the CAF group.comp.red with that of the C group.p.0.0007).Sp.rmatogenic cell p.oliferation was also reduced in the CAF group.comp.red with that of the C ***,the CAF-R showed an increase in cell p.oliferation rate comp.red with that of the untreated CAF group.p.0.0024).Although it did not modify body mass,the consump.ion of a CAF diet p.omoted hyp.rglycemia,adverse testicular morp.ology remodeling,and abnormal sp.rm,which were attenuated by treatment with resveratrol,thus suggesting a p.otective effect of this antioxidant on sp.rmatogenesis.

Comp.sition and antimicrobial activity of Cistus munbyi essential oil: an endemic p.ant from Algeria

The chemical comp.sition and antimicrobial p.tential of Cistus munbyi essential oil were studied for the first time. GC and GC–MS analysis revealed 48 comp.unds rep.esenting 96.98% of the oil. Terp.nen-4-ol(23.75%), meta-Cymene(17.30%), and Sabinene(12.38%)were the major constituents. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated against nine p.thogens using the disc diffusion and broth micro-dilution methods. Results show that *** essential oil p.ssesses strong antimicrobial activity against all strains, regardless if Gram-p.sitive or Gramnegative bacteria, or yeast, with MICs values not exceeding10(mg/ml). In addition to its efficacy, C. munbyi essential oil has an unusual antimicrobial p.tency which is attributed to its sp.cific chemical comp.sition. Thus, findings p.esented here suggest that endemic C. munbyi contains a very interesting essential oil that may be valuable in several areas.

The multi-domain hybrid Sp.ctral-WENO method(Hybrid)is introduced for the numerical solution of two-dimensional nonlinear hyp.rbolic systems in a Cartesian p.ysical domain which is p.rtitioned into a grid of rectangular *** main idea of the Hybrid scheme is to conjugate the sp.ctral and WENO methods for solving p.oblems with shock or high gradients such that the scheme adap.s its solver sp.tially and temp.rally dep.nding on the smoothness of the solution in a given *** as a multi-domain method,an adap.ive algorithm is used to keep.the solutions p.rts exhibiting high gradients and discontinuities always inside WENO subdomains while the smooth p.rts of the solution are kep. inside sp.ctral ones,avoiding oscillations related to the well-known Gibbs p.enomenon and increasing the numerical efficiency of the overall scheme.A higher order version of the multi-resolution analysis p.op.sed by Harten is used to determine the smoothness of the solution in each *** also discuss interface conditions for the two-dimensional p.oblem and the switching p.ocedure between WENO and sp.ctral *** Hybrid method is ap.lied to the two-dimensional Shock-Vortex Interaction and the Richtmyer-Meshkov Instability(RMI)p.oblems.

Background: Oxidative stress has been imp.icated in the p.ogression of severe forms of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD). NADp. oxidase p.oduces reactive oxygen sp.cies. In the p.esent study, we investigated for the first time two single nucleotide p.lymorp.isms(SNp.) in the regulatory region of genes encoding NADp. oxidase 4(NOX4) and p.2 p.ox(CYBA) in ***: A total of 207 biop.y-p.oven NAFLD p.tients [simp.e steatosis(n = 27); nonalcoholic steatohep.titis(NASH)(n = 180)] were evaluated. Genomic DNA was extracted from p.rip.eral blood cells, and p.lymorp.isms in CYBA(unregistered) and NOX4(rs3017887) were determined by direct sequencing of ***: Associations of CYBA-675 T/A with high-density lip.p.otein(HDL)(TT vs TA vs AA; p.p.p.tients. For p.lymorp.isms in the NOX4 gene, NOX4(rs3017887) CA + AA genotyp.s was significant associated with alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(CA + AA vs CC; p.= 0.02). However, there was no association of SNp. in the CYBA and NOX4 genes encoding the NADp. oxidase system p.oteins and the p.esence of NASH. Regarding the clinical results, it was observed that the most advanced degrees of fibrosis occurred in p.tients diagnosed with typ. 2 diabetes mellitus(66.9% vs 37.5%, p.p.p.esence of ***: There were associations between the p.esence of the allele A in the NOX4 SNp.and a higher concentration of ALT in the NAFLD p.p.lation; between the p.esence of the AA genotyp. in the p.lymorp.ism of the CYBA-675 T/A CYBA gene and a higher level of TGL and lower HDL in NASH p.tients. The p.esence of metabolic syndrome was associated with advanced degrees of fibrosis in NAFLD p.tients.
