A Brief Review on Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles Interactions with Biological Constituents

With the pursuit of new cancer therapies and more effective treatment to diseases in the last decades, nanotechnology has been an important ally for healthcare professionals and patients in critical clinical conditions. Nanomaterials offer an alternative way to deliver toxic chemotherapeutic drugs to specific biological tissues, specific cells or specific microbial beings, resulting in avoidance of strong side effects or resilience to effective drugs. Among these materials, stands out the hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, a ceramic class of calcium phosphates that present chemical and structural similarities with the mineral phase of the human skeleton’s bone matrix, resulting in important biological features, such as biocompatibility, osteoconductive, osteoinduction and osteoaffinity, which led to a lot of scientific researches to apply these nanoparticles for bone diseases diagnosis and therapeutics. Due to the hydroxyapatite biological activities and due to the possibility to promote chemical and physical modifications in these nanoparticles, they can interact with biological cells or microorganisms in different ways, resulting in multiple potentialities to be explored such as apoptosis induction to cancerous cells, osteogenesis promotion, cellular proliferation, angiogenesis and tissue recovery, in addition to promote cell adhesion and cell uptake. Furthermore, chemical and physical modifications, such as surface functionalization, dopant inclusions and radiolabeling process, allow scientists to track the particle activities in biological environments. In the last decades of scientific productions, the literature brings together important data on how hydroxyapatite nanoparticles interact with biological tissues and such data are crucial for the development of more effective therapeutic and diagnostic agents. Subarachnoid hemorrhage is frequently associated with poor prognoses. Three different hemo- dynamic phases were identified during subarachnoid hemorrhage： oligemia, hyperemia, and vasospasm. Each phase is associated with brain metabolic changes. In this review, we correlated the hemodynamic phases with brain metabolism and potential treatment options in the hopes of improving patient prognoses.

Improving wood volume predictions in dry tropical forest in the semi-arid Brazil

The volumetric variability of dry tropical forests in Brazil and the scarcity of studies on the subject show the need for the development of techniques that make it possible to obtain adequate and accurate wood volume *** this study,we analyzed a database of thinning trees from a forest management plan in the Contendas de SincoráNational Forest,southwestern Bahia State,*** data set included a total of 300 trees with a trunk diameter ranging from 5 to 52 ***,validation and statistical selection of four volumetric models were *** to the difference in height values for the same diameter and the low correlation between both variables,we do not suggest models which only use the diameter at breast height(DBH)variable as a predictor because they accommodate the largest estimation *** comparing the best single entry model(Hohenald-Krenn)with the Spurr model(best fit model),it is noted that the exclusion of height as a predictor causes the values of 136.44 and 0.93 for Akaike information criterion(AIC)and adjusted determination coefficient(R2 adj),which are poorer than the second best model(Schumacher-Hall).Regarding the minimum sample size,errors in estimation(root mean square error(RMSE)and bias)of the best model decrease as the sample size increases,especially when a larger number of trees with DBH≥15.0 cm are randomly *** sampling by diameter class produces smaller volume prediction errors than random sampling,especially when considering all *** summary,the Spurr and Schumacher-Hall models perform *** models suggest that the total variance explained in the estimates is not less than 95%,producing reliable forecasts of the total volume with *** estimates indicate that the bias around the average is not greater than 7%.Our results support the decision to use regression methods to build models and estimate their parameters,seeking stratification strategies in diameter classes for the sample trees.

In this work,the impact of the doping process on the photoluminescence emission of CaWO_(4) as a function of the concentration of Eu^(3+) cation(0.01 mol%,0.02 mol%,0.04 mol%,0.06 mol%,0.08 mol%,and 0.10 mol%) is discussed in ***_(1-x)WO~4:xEu^(3+) samples were successfully synthesized by a simple coprecipitation method followed by microwave *** blue shift in the absorption edge confirms the quantum confinement effect and the band gap energy covers the range from 3.91 to 4.18 eV,as the amount of Eu^(3+) cations *** experimental results are sustained by first-principles calculations,at the density functional theory level,to decipher the geometry and electronic properties,thereby enabling a more accurate and direct comparison between theory and experiment for the Ca_(1-x)WO_(4):xEu^(3+) structure.

Dual-delay-Path Ring Oscillator with Self-Biased delay Cells for Clock Generation

This work summarizes the structure and operating features of a high-performance 3-stage dual-delay-path (DDP) voltage-controlled ring oscillator (VCRO) with self-biased delay cells for Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) structurebased clock generation and digital system driving. For a voltage supply VDD = 1.8 V, the resulting set of performance parameters include power consumption PDC = 4.68 mW and phase noise PN@1MHz = -107.8 dBc/Hz. From the trade-off involving PDC and PN, a system level high performance is obtained considering a reference figure-of-merit ( FoM = -224 dBc/Hz ). Implemented at schematic level by applying CMOS-based technology (UMC L180), the proposed VCRO was designed at Cadence environment and optimized at MunEDA WiCkeD tool.

Strategies for the analysis of single-tree plot experiments in Eucalyptus plantations
