Background: Identifying factors associated with physical activity(PA) is useful in planning interventions and policies. The aim of this study was to identify sociodemographic, biological, and psychosocial factors associated with PA performed in school ***: Data collected for the present study included gender, age, socioeconomic status, body fat percentage, aerobic fitness, self-efficacy, attitudes,peer and parental support, and perception of school environment. dependent variables were light-intensity PA(LPA) and moderate-to-vigorousintensity PA(MVPA) performed during school time, recesses, and physical education(PE) classes. Multiple regression analyses were ***: Participating adolescents(n = 567, 53% female, 12.9 ± 5.3 years) spent 5% of school time in MVPA and 27% in LPA, 15% of recesses in MVPA and 44% in LPA, and 16% of PE classes in MVPA and 41% in LPA. Boys engaged in more MVPA in all categories. Age was inversely related with MVPA and LPA in all periods, whereas body fat percentage was inversely related with MVPA in school time and PE classes. Attitude was inversely related with MVPA in all periods and with LPA in recesses. Considering PA to be good and enjoyable was positively associated with MVPA in school ***: Adolescents spent little time in PA during school. Future interventions should implement enjoyable activities at school.

Ten Years of Minimum Efficiency Standards for Induction Motors in Brazil： From Standards Class until Super Premium Motors

The year 2012 marked the 10th anniversary of publication of Presidential decree No. 4508/2002, which set forth minimum efficiency standards for induction motors in Brazil. Within this context, the present article focuses on the importance of implementing minimum efficiency standards in Brazil and elsewhere and presents the state of the art in domestic and international legislation and standards pertaining to induction motors. It also covers advancements in motor technology, by means of an analysis of motors currently on the market, and trends in said technology, with particular emphasis on the search for new materials for permanent magnet manufacturing. The results of experimental testing of a permanent-magnet motor and a premium-efficiency induction motor are presented and discussed, with the objective of contributing to definition of the IE4 （Efficiency Level from International Electrotechnical Commission） standard and to the goal-oriented Brazilian efficiency program. The present article described the results of experimental testing with an induction motor and a line-start permanent-magnet motor and concluded that permanent-magnet motors are superior in performance to induction motors at loads between half and full, with an efficiency advantage of up to 6.7%. However, in applications with wide variations in load, with motor operation below half load, use of permanent-magnet motors is not economically feasible, as the current cost of these motors exceeds that of induction motors. Another relevant finding concerns the current harmonic distortion observed during testing. The tested permanent-magnet motor exhibited a distortion of up to 13.5%, exceeding Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standard 519/1992 recommended limits. This behavior must be clearly specified and taken into account by future standards that define the super premium class, lest the impact of harmonic distortion prove to be detrimental to industries that adopt these motors for their

Canopy Management of Table Grapes Cultivar in Tropical Conditions

The production of some seedless table grapes under tropical conditions presents low bud fertility on the main canes and low yield, which leads to the need of pruning in the lateral shoots. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the canopy management for the formation of lateral shoots associated with dellsity of canes on the yield and quality of grapes ＂Sugraone＂ in the Sao Francisco Valley. The experiment was carried out over two growing seasons （2011-2012） in a commercial vineyard of Sugraone in Petrolina, Pernambuco state, Brazil. The treatments consisted of two canopy managements （shoot topping associated to elimination of lateral shoots and shoot topping and formation of lateral shoots） combined with two to three densities of canes after pruning （1.8, 2.8 and 3.8 canes/m^2）. The formation of ＂lateral shoots＂ increased yield and number of clusters per plant during two consecutive growing seasons, besides using 2.8 varas/m^2 resulted in highest yields only in 2011 growing season. The variables mass bunch, mass berry, soluble solids （SS）, soluble sugar, titxatable acidity （TA） and pulp firmness were not affected by treatments, while the attributes related to color, as like brightness and hue angle of the skin, and total extractable polyphenols content were influenced by canopy management, especially in the 2012 growing season. Shoot topping to induce formation of laterals shoots associated with density of 2.8 canes/m2 increased the yield of seedless grapes cultivar Sugraone grown in the Sao Francisco Valley, not significantly affecting the quality of the grape.

Hepatic encephalopathy(HE)is a cognitive disturbance characterized by neuropsychiatric *** occurs in acute and chronic hepatic disease and also in patients with portosystemic *** presence of these portosystemic shunts allows the passage of nitrogenous substances from the intestines through systemic veins without liver ***,the embolization of these shunts has been performed tocontrol HE manifestations,but the presence of portal vein thrombosis is considered a *** this presentation we show a cirrhotic patient with severe HE and portal vein thrombosis who was submitted to embolization of a large portosystemic *** report:a 57 years-old cirrhotic patient who had been hospitalized many times for persistent HE and hepatic coma,even without precipitant *** had a wide portosystemic shunt and also portal vein *** abdominal angiography confirmed the splenorenal shunt and showed other *** larger shunt was embolized through placement of microcoils,and the patient had no recurrence of overt *** was a little increase of esophageal and gastric varices,but no endoscopic treatment was *** portosystemic shunts are frequent causes of recurrent HE in cirrhotic patients,portal vein thrombosis should be considered a relative contraindication to perform a shunt ***,in particular cases with many shunts and severe HE,we found that one of these shunts can be safely embolized and this procedure can be sufficient to obtain a good HE *** conclusion,we reported a case of persistent HE due to a wide portosystemic shunt associated with portal vein *** the patient had other shunts,she was successfully treated by embolization of the larger shunt.

Indicators Benchmarking of Cement-Based Construction Technologies: Brazilian Case Study

The adoption of performance indicators promotes knowledge of quantitative and qualitative material wastes in businesses and, when inserted in a collaborative process, provides a comparative evaluation of results between companies and, thereafter, an identification of best practices (bench-marking). The purpose of this paper is to present the best practices identified by performance indicators, related to the measurement of wastes and associated to construction companies participation in the benchmarking research process “Implementation of a system of performance indicators of cement-based construction technologies of the Community of Construction of Recife city in Brazil-PROGRIde”, coordinated by the Brazilian Association of Portland Cement-ABCP. Therefore, it was sought to characterize best practices that led to the benchmarking of performance indicators related to the wastes of concrete, industrialized mortar for masonry settling and blocks/ bricks. As a contribution, a set of factors that characterize the best practices for each technology and conducted to benchmarking were identified.

Aims The coastal Brazilian rainforest on white-sand(restinga)ranks among the most fragmented forest types in the tropics,owing to both the patchy distribution of sandy soils and widespread coastal development *** we study the environmental and evolutionary determinants of a forest tree assemblage at a single restinga forest in Southeastern *** also explore the ability of competing hypotheses to explain the maintenance of species diversity in this forest type,which includes contrasting extremes of edaphic conditions associated with flooding *** The study was conducted in a white-sand forest permanent plot of 10.24 ha on the coastal plain of Southeastern *** plot was divided into 256 quadrats of 20×20 m,which were classified into two main edaphic habitats(flooded and drained).Trees with a diameter≥1 cm at breast height were *** assembled DNA sequence data for each of the 116 morphospecies recognized using two chloroplast markers(rbcL and matK).A phylogenetic tree was obtained using the maximum likelihood method,and a phylogenetic distance matrix was produced from an ultrametric *** analyzed similarity in floristic composition and structure between habitats and related them to cross-plot distances using permutation *** model torus shift simulations were performed to obtain a statistical significance level for habitat association for each *** phylogenetic structure for the two habitats and for each 20×20 m quadrat was calculated using the mean phylogenetic distance weighted by species abundance and checked for significance using the standardized effect size generated by 5000 randomizations of phylogenetic tip *** Findings Our results indicate that partitioning among edaphic habitats is important for explaining species distributions and coexistence in restinga *** distributions within the plot were found to be non-random:there was greater floristic similarity within than betwe

The order Gobiiformes is made up of more than 2200 species,representing one of the most diverse groups among teleost *** biological causes for the tachytelic karyotype evolution of the gobies have not yet been fully *** we expanded cytogenetic data for the Eleotridae family,analyzing the neotropical species Dormitator maculatus,Eleotris pisonis,Erotelis smaragdus,and Guavina *** addition,a meta-analytical approach was followed for elucidating the karyotype diversification versus biological aspects(habitat and egg type)of the *** species *** and *** present 2n=46 acrocentric chromosomes(NF=46),*** 2n=46(36sm+4st+6a;NF=86),and ***,the most divergent karyotype,with 2n=52 acrocentric chromosomes(NF=52).Besides numeric and structural diversification in the karyotypes,the mapping of rDNAs and microsatellites also showed noticeable numerical and positional variation,supporting the high chromosomal evolutionary dynamism of these *** Gobiiformes,karyotype patterns which are more divergent from the basal karyotype(2n=46a)are associated with characteristics less effective to dispersion,such as the benthic *** adaptive characteristics,connected with the organization of the repetitive DNA content in the chromosomes,likely play a synergistic role in the remarkable karyotype diversification of this group.

Theoretical Evaluation of Two-Phase Flow in a Horizontal Duct with Leaks

The transport of oil and its derivates are done, mostly, by pipeline. The time to detect leaks has to be short for pre-venting big disasters in the nature and decreasing losses for industries. The techniques available for leak detection vary from visual inspection to the use of computational techniques such as mathematical modeling. This paper aims to study the fluid dynamics of two-phase flow (water-oil) in the pipe with leakage. The equations of the mass and momentum conservation are numerically solved by using the ANSYSCFX commercial code with the aid of a structured mesh of a horizontal pipe with three holes of leaks. The Eulerian-Eulerian model was adopted considering the oil as continuous phase and water as dispersed phase, and constant fluid properties. With profiles of pressure and volume fraction along the time in the pipe, the influence of leakage on the single-phase (oil) and two-phase (water-oil) was evaluated.
