This study presents the development of a medium flow, multiple slit based Pm2.5 （particle aerodynamic diameter 〈2.5 μm） inertial impactor. Its performance was compared with that of a light scattering based optical particle sizer in a field study and in controlled lab based experiments using polydisperse dolomite powder as test aerosol. The impactor＇s optimum nozzle configuration had a cutoff size of 2.51 μm （aero- dynamic diameter） at an operating flow rate of 215 L/rain with a pressure drop of 0.35 kPa across the impactor stage. Because the apparent particle density of an ambient aerosol depends on the physical properties and the chemical composition of the particles, the Pm2.5 mass concentration was measured with an optical particle sizer and an inertial impactor over a weekday and a weekend day in a field study during which the effective particle shape factor and density were in tandem modified in order to com- pare the results from the two sampling techniques. The correlation of the two instrument results tended towards 1：1 with increasing values of shape factor （irregular shaped） and effective particle density. This observation was supported through chemical investigations of the collected mass, which showed a higher percentage contribution from elements which are mostly of crustal nature （namely, Ca, Fe, and mg）.

In this work, we evaluate the properties of solution casted polysulfone （PSf）/sulfonated polyethersulfone （SPES） blend membranes prepared by non-solvent induced phase inversion technique. The morphologies of these blend membranes, observed using scanning electron microscopy （SEm） and atomic force microscopy （AFm） imaging, indicated a smoother skin layer and an increased number of highly interconnected pores in the sub layer. The efficacy of the prepared membranes was evaluated in terms of porosity, ultrafiltration rate （UFR）, molecular weight cut-off （mWCO） and mean pore size. The hydrophilicity of these membranes was in consonance with contact angle values. It was observed that the selectivity and the UFR of the blend membranes were higher when compared to pristine membranes. Furthermore, these blend membranes demonstrated an increase in biocompatibility - prolonged blood clotting time, suppressed platelet adhesion, reduced protein adsorption and lower complement activation. These membranes were also investigated for uremic solute removal. Diffusive permeability of middle molecular weight cytochrome-c revealed an increase from 8 × 10 ^-4 cm·s ^-1 to 18 × 10^-4 cm· s^- and illustrates the possibility that these sulfonated PES/PSf blend membranes can be used to prepare membrane modules for hemodialysis applications.

Assessment of biomass and net primary productivity of a dry tropical forest using geospatial technology

This study quantifies biomass, aboveground and belowground net productivity, along with additional environmental factors over a 2-3 year period in Barnawapara Sanctuary of Chhattisgarh, India through satellite remotesensing and GIS techniques. Ten sampling quadrates20×20, 5×5 and 1×1 m were randomly laid for overstorey (OS), understorey (US) and ground vegetation(GS), respectively. Girth of trees was measured at breast height and collar diameters of shrubs and herbs at 0.1 m height. Biomass was estimated using allometric regression equations and herb biomass by harvesting. Net primary productivity (NPP) was determined by Ssumming biomass increment and litter crop values. Aspect and slope influenced the vegetation types, biomass and NPP in different forests. Standing biomass and NPP varied from 18.6 to101.5 mg ha^(-1) and 5.3 to 12.7 mg ha^(-1) a^(-1), respectively,in different forest types. The highest biomass was found in dense mixed forest, while net production recoded in Teak forests. Both were lowest in degraded mixed forests of different forest types. OS, US and GS contributed 90.4, 8.7and 0.7%, respectively, for the total mean standing biomass in different forests. This study developed spectral models for the estimation of biomass and NPP using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and other vegetation *** study demonstrated the potential of geospatial tools for estimation of biomass and net productivity of dry tropical forest ecosystem.

BACKGROUND: Patients with carcinoma of the gallbladder have advanced, unresectable tumor at the time of presentation and face a dismal prognosis in the absence of a standard palliative chemotherapy regimen. This study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combined chemotherapy of gemcitabine and carboplatin in 20 patients with advanced gallbladder carcinoma. mETHODS: The criteria of eligibility included chemonaive patients with unresectable gallbladder cancer, bidimensionaIly measurable disease, Zubrod's performance status≤2, and adequate major organ function. The patients received gemcitabine (1000 mg/m^2) on days 1 and 8, and carboplatin (target AUC of 5.0 mg/ml) on day 1, in a 21-day cycle. CT was used for response assessment. RESULTS: In this group of 20 patients with advanced gallbladder carcinoma 6 were men and 14 women, with a median age of 55 years. The stage of the tumor at presentation was IVB in 14 patients (70%), IVA in 3 (15%) and Ⅲ in 3 (15%). Four patients (21%) achieved a complete response, and 3 (15.7%), a partial response; an overall response rate was 36.7%. The median time to progression of the tumor was 33.8 weeks, and 1-year survival rate of the patients was 43.3%. Anemia of WHO grade Ⅲ or Ⅳ was seen in 2 patients (10%) and 1 patient (5%), respectively. Grade Ⅲ neutropenia and thrombocytopenia were observed in 2 patients (10%) and 1 patient (5%), respectively. CONCLUSION: With mild toxicity, combined chemotherapy of gemcitabine and carhoplatin is effective in the treatment of advanced gallbladder carcinoma.

【目的】印度大部分露尾甲在腐烂的水果和蔬菜上大量发生,其种群在一年中表现出明显的季节性波动。据推测,露尾甲种群很大程度上依赖于温度、湿度和降雨之类的环境因子。【方法】本研究调查了2013-2015年印度加尔各答市区外围一地Garia的露尾甲物种组成、季节性发生和种群结构,记录了其活跃时期、季节性多度和影响其发生的因素。【结果】调查期间在调查地共发现数目不等的6个物种。其中最常见露尾甲为Urophorus humeralis,它是个体数量最多的物种且在一年中几乎所有月份均有发生;其他常见物种为Epuraea ocularis和***。不同物种在食物发酵的连续阶段进入诱捕器中。最初12 h被捕获的是Epuraea属的种类,而在诱捕器中食物严重腐烂的后续阶段发现最多的是***。在合适范围的气温(22~29℃)和相对湿度(82.5%~86%)下,物种丰富度最高,表明这些环境变量对露尾甲种群具有重要影响。【结论】加尔各答主要水果和蔬菜在季风后季节种植,在季风后季节取食这些作物的露尾甲发生量(物种丰富度和多度)最高。这一研究结果可能有助于制定针对这些甲虫的有效田间治理策略。

BACKGROUND Limb length discrepancy(LLD)after total knee arthroplasty(TKA)has been considered as one of the reasons for the unsatisfactory ***,there is no consensus about the extent of LLD that can be considered as clinically *** To evaluate the incidence of radiographic LLD and its impact on functional outcome following *** All randomized-controlled trial and observational studies on LLD in TKA,published till 22nd June 2020,were systematically searched and *** primary outcome was“limb lengthening or LLD after TKA”.The secondary outcomes included“assessment of LLD in varus/valgus deformity”and“impact of LLD on the functional outcome”.RESULTS Of 45 retrieved studies,qualitative and quantitative assessment of data was performed from eight studies and six studies,*** studies(n=1551)reported the average limb lengthening of 5.98 *** LLD after TKA was ranging from 0.4±10 mm to 15.3±2.88 *** incidence of postoperative radiographic LLD was reported in 44%to 83.3%of *** was no difference in the preoperative and postoperative LLD(mD-1.23;95%CI:-3.72,1.27;P=0.34).Pooled data of two studies(n=219)revealed significant limb lengthening in valgus deformity than varus(mD-2.69;95%CI:-5.11,0.27;P=0.03).The pooled data of three studies(n=611)showed significantly worse functional outcome in patients with LLD of≥10 mm compared tomm(standard mD 0.58;95%CI:0.06,1.10;P=0.03).CONCLUSION Limb lengthening after TKA is common,and it is significantly more in valgus than varus *** LLD(≥10 mm)is associated with suboptimal functional outcome.

Wireless sensor networks （WSNs） consist of sensor nodes that broadcast a message within a network. Efficient broadcasting is a key requirement in sensor networks and has been a focal point of research over the last few years. There are many challenging tasks in the network, including redundancy control and sensor node localization that mainly depend on broadcasting. In this paper, we propose a broadcasting algorithm to control redundancy and improve localization （BACRIL） in WSNs. The proposed algorithm incorporates the benefits of the gossip protocol for optimizing message broadcasting within the network. Simulation results show a controlled level of redundancy, which is up to 57.6% if the number of sensor nodes deployed in a 500 m×500 m area are increased from 50 to 500.
