Purpose:The new Finnish National Core Curriculum for Early Childhood Education and Care(2018)strongly highlights pedagogical knowledge and practice,demanding teachers to develop their pedagogical thinking,evaluation,judgment,and operating *** ethics is viewed as vital characteristics of the teaching profession,our objective is to make these complex ethical issues more visible to be subject to democratic discussion and ***/Approach/Methods:The framework comprises a broad theory base of codes of ethics and professional codes of ethics of *** research materials were national curricula of early childhood education and care(ECEC)-and pre-primary *** eight-step qualitative analysis process was applied to identify and shed light on the codes of ethics laying the foundations forpurposeful and ethical earlychildhood education(ECE)***:The results indicate that through both theoretical lenses,the Finnish ECEC curricula comprise several ethical *** the future purposeful ECE teachers as ethical professionals,the results raise questions for further ***,issues related to the ethics of care,intellectual freedom,inquiry stance,and professional competence,and diversity may further enhance our ECEC curricula.

AIM: To investigate efficacy and safety for granulocyte, monocyte apheresis in a population of pediatric patients with ulcerative ***: The ADAPT study was a prospective, open-label, multicenter study in pediatric patients with moderate, active ulcerative colitis with pediatric ulcerative colitis activity index (PUCAI) of 35-64. Patients received one weekly apheresis with Adacolumn® granulocyte, monocyte/macrophage adsorptive (GMA) apheresis over 5 consecutive weeks, optionally followed by up to 3 additional apheresis treatments over 3 consecutive weeks. Given the growing interest in ground source heat pump and distributed heating installations in general for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions,technology implementation planning can benefit from the simultaneous consideration of building ***,a method for identifying and evaluating scenarios based on cost and greenhouse gas emissions is *** method is demonstrated for a case study in Vaasa *** case study considers the insulation of the walls,roof,and base floor and the replacement of windows based on 2003 and 2010 Finnish building codes simultaneously with the possible replacement of existing heat sources with ground source heat *** of changes in heat demand for consecutive renovations are combined with data on renovation,installation,heating costs,and life cycle greenhouse gas emissions data for the current and proposed heat *** scenarios are identifi ed and evaluated by building type,construction decade,and current heating *** results are then placed within the contexts of the Vaasa building stock and policy theory.

New types of communication cables were found to be needed already during the 1960-decade,because the copper cables had,and still would have,too high attenuation and especially limited bandwidth,due to extremely high dispersion at communication signals above 2 Mbit/*** the first commercially available multimode optical fibers(1979),developed from pure silica glass with a Ge-doped core,had much lower attenuation at signal frequencies of the order of 2-9 Mbit/s and above ***,fiber core,cladding and coating materials,cable structures and materials,as well as manufacturing-,measurements-and test methods have been needed to be developed much further to get the reliable fiber cable communication *** important development stages and solutions to the most significant childhood problems of the optical fibers and cables are described in this *** over 500 million km of optical fibers are manufactured and installed worldwide for the communication *** understanding of how to make the fibers with the very good transmission,mechanical and reliability properties exists at the manufacturers of the fibers and cables.

This study investigated episodic memory in prodromal HD. Three groups were compared (N = 70): mutation carriers with less than 12.5 years to disease onset (n = 16), mutation carriers with 12.5 or more years to disease onset (n = 16), and noncarriers (n = 38). Episodic memory was assessed using the Fuld Object Memory Evaluation, which included multimodal presentation and selective reminding, and the Claeson-Dahl Learning Test which included verbal repeated presentation and recall trials. Both carrier groups demonstrated deficient episodic memory compared to noncarriers. The results suggest deficient episodic memory in prodromal HD, and that inconsistent retrieval contributes to these deficits. Multimodal presentation attenuates the deficits.

Are there differences between the expectations of parents, nurses and physicians when using music in NICU?

This paper aimed to describe and explain the expectations concerning the use of music in NICU from the viewpoints of parents, nurses and physicians. The relevant questionnaires were distributed to 836 participants who were recruited from the country’s five university hospitals (n = 508, response rate 61). Slightly over half of the participants preferred recorded music versus live music in the NICU. They strongly expected that their preferred music could be beneficial both for the infants, parents and staff. The parents agreed most that live music is the most suitable choice for infants (p < 0.001), and that the music could especially benefit the infant (p < 0.001) and parents (p < 0.001) compared with the nurses’ and physicians’ preferences. Some background details such as age, average length of time listening to music, musical training and experiences of using music provided significant explanations for the participants’ expectations. In conclusion, there were significant differences between the groups of the respondents concerning the type of the preferred music and its expected effects. This highlights the importance of discussion with the caregivers when taking music into regular use in the neonatal intensive care units.

The need for long-term surveillance of recovery of psychiatric patients with somatic complaints

Objective: Treatment of psychiatric patients with psychosomatic or somatic symptoms needs special attention. Methods: We examined correlates, change and recovery from depression among psychiatric patients (n = 150) during the assessment of their work ability. Patients were referred to an open psychiatric ward during 8/2004-9/2005. Psychiatric diseases were diagnosed with the ICD-10 by the psychiatrist, but also the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID I and II) was conducted. The patients replied to questionnaires after admission and before discharge including questions on life changes, somatic health, psychosocial and health-related factors as well as psychometric scales for depression (BDI), life satisfaction (LS) and general psychopathology (SCL). RESULTS. At baseline, 75% of the patients reported clinically significant depression (BDI > 15) and a quarter of them experienced their depression as severe (BDI ≥ 30). Whereas, according to ICD-10 guidelines, 91% of the patients suffered from depressive disorder and 66% of them from major depression. The average duration of inpatient evaluation was 24 (SD 9, 4) days. Baseline poor general health, life dissatisfaction, psychosomatic symptoms, bodily pains as well as poor financial situation and adverse life events predicted prevailing depression at discharge. Clinical symptoms improved significantly, especially among younger patients, recovery could not be reached by the time of discharge. Conclusions: Psychiatric patients with somatic complaints tended to under-rate their depression. To enhance their recovery, long-term and individually planned out-patient treatment and surveillance are needed.

Our previous in vitro and ex vivo experiments show that selected probiotic lactic acid bacteria can bind aflatoxin B (AFB). We propose that these bacteria, given to subjects exposed to AFs via diet, will reduce the absorption of dietary AFs from the intestine.
