An Overview of PRP-Delivering Scaffolds for Bone and Cartilage Tissue Engineering

＜正＞Improving water use efficiency is crucial to both Australia and China. In the case of China, development in the last half century has resulted in the irrigated area growing from 16.0 Mha to 55.9 Mha which accounts for 42.4% of the farmland. The total water use for irrigation in China gradually increased from approximately 100 BCM in 1949 to 358 BCM in 1980, after which, it has since stabilised. However, competition for water from other sectors is increasing. For example, industrial and municipal water use has increased rapidly and reduced the proportion used in irrigation to 92, 80 and 60% in 1949, 1980 and 2003 respectively. This situation demands major improvement in water use efficiency for irrigated agriculture if current production levels are to be enhanced or maintained. Irrigated agriculture makes up 70% of Australia’s consumptive water use. With the water resources in irrigation areas being close to fully allocated, or even over-allocated in some catchments, there is an increased competition for water. It is generally accepted that there will be less water available for irrigated agriculture in the future and the only way to provide enough water for irrigation will be to use the available resource more efficiently at both farm and catchment scales. In both China and Australia, it is hardly possible to withdraw more water from existing resources;the present irrigation practices and future irrigation developments should focus on improvement of water use efficiency in all sectors at all scales. However, savings from one part of the system may lead to higher water use in another part of the system and the overall improvement may be negligible. Some measures that may improve the water productivity in agriculture are canal lining, irrigation scheduling, high-tech irrigation technologies, improved cropping patterns and conversion to crops with higher economic returns. Tissue engineering is nowadays an emerging approach that aims to replace or regenerate diseased or damaged organs with engineered constructs. Considering the key role of growth factors (GFs) in the tissue regeneration process, these biomolecules are considered an important part of the tissue engineering process, so the presence of growth factors in engineered scaffolds can accelerate tissue regeneration by influencing the behavior of cells. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), as an autologous source of a variety of growth factors, is considered a therapeutic agent for the treatment of degenerative diseases. Regarding its ability to promote the healing process and tissue regeneration, PRP therapy has attracted great attention in bone and cartilage tissue engineering. Incorporating PRP and its derivatives into engineered scaffolds not only bioactivates the scaffold, but the scaffold matrix also acts as a sustained and localized growth factor release system. In addition, the presence of a scaffold can promote the bioactivity of GFs by providing an environment that facilitates their interaction, leading to enhanced effects compared to their free form. This review presents a brief overview of PRP's role in bone and cartilage tissue regeneration with the main focus on scaffold-mediated PRP delivery. In addition, the classification of platelet-rich products, current extraction techniques, terminology, and scaffold bioactivation methods are presented to provide a better understanding of the basics and the key aspects that may affect the effectiveness of therapy in bone and cartilage tissue engineering.

Vulnerability assessment is essential for understanding and launching effective flood risk reduction *** study aimed to examine the vulnerability of flood-prone rural communities in southern Punjab,Pakistan to external *** concept of vulnerability encompasses a range of dimensions,including physical,social,institutional,environmental,economic,and *** a composite index method,indices were developed for each dimension and combined to create a multidimensional measure of vulnerability.A sample of 365 communities was selected using the Yamane sampling technique,and data were collected through a questionnaire containing 65 indicators across all *** statistics and ANOVA tests were used to analyze the *** results show that communities near the Chenab River had higher attitudinal and institutional vulnerability compared to other *** attitudinal vulnerabilities were as sociated with poorly perceived flood risks and low preparedness measures,whereas institutional vulnerabilities were driven by conventional flood protection strategies,lack of institutional trust,and lack of flood risk *** research provides insights into the various components of vulnerability in flood-prone rural communities in Pakistan and demonstrates a useful methodology that can be applied to other disasters at different spatial scales.

The widespread use of disposable batteries to power common electronic devices is a major source of *** are growing environmental and health concerns due to the expansion of e-waste around the ***,developing a reli-able system for recycling old batteries has reached the top of the recycling priority *** current study presents a novel approach to synthesis carbon nanoparticles(CNPs)from spent batteries via an eco-friendly method that offers economical,environment-friendly,and nontoxic approaches in comparison to conventional chemical *** synthesized nano-particles were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),energy-dispersive X-ray(EDX),powder X-ray diffractometry(XRD),UV-VIS absorption analysis(UV),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),Atomic force microscope(AFM),and thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA).The average diameter of the synthesized particles was 40.16 nm,and the particles tended to be aspherical in *** analysis also predicted the presence of pure carbon,with some contamination arrived at 15%(in weight).This is a novel study in which nanocarbons were synthesized in a brine(7600x10-6)from a target(CNPs>75 nm),which paves the way for future use of CNPs derived from spent batteries and helps the environment by decreasing the amount of electronic waste dumped in landfills.
