different image processing algorithms have been evaluated in the context of geological mapping using Landsat TM data. False color composites, the principal component imagery, and IHS decorrelation stretching method for Landsat-5 TM data have been found useful for delineating the regional geological features, mainly to provide the maximum geological information of the studied area . The study testifies that using which image processing yields best results for geological mapping in arid and semiarid regions by preserving morphological and spectral information. Generally, the studied area can be divided into three main geological units: Basaltic intrusive rocks, Metamorphic with varying intensities and Sedimentary rocks.

The distribution control center(dCC)has evolved from a sideshow in the traditional distribution service center to a major centerpiece of the utility moving into the decentralized ***,this is the place where much of the action is happening due to new forms of energy that are coining into the distribution *** creates the flexibility of operation and in-creased complexity due to the need for increased coordination between the transmission control center and ***,the US and European utilities have adapted to this change in very different ***,we describe the research works done in a dCC and their evolutions from the perspectives of major US utilities,and those enhanced by the European perspective focusing on the coordination of distribution system operator and transmission system operator(dSO-TSO).We pres-ent the insights into the systems used in these control centers and the role of vendors in their *** this paper,we present the perspectives of challenges,operational capabilities,and the involvement of various parties who will be re-sponsible to make the transition *** differences are pointed out on how distribution operations are conducted between the US and Europe.

Induction of antitumor immunity by vaccination is one of the major current immunother- apy strategies. We present a mathematical model of the competition between immune cells and mammary carcinogenesis under the effect of Triplex vaccine. The model describes both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses against cancer cells. The control of the cancer cells growth occurs through the application of the pulse vaccination. Here we determine the relationship between the strength of the vaccine and the time required to eradicate cancer cells, and we present some simulations to illustrate our theoretical results, namely, the total cancer cells depletion, which is influenced by competition occurs among the immune and cancer cells.

Miniaturized optical benches process free-space light propagating in-plane with respect to the substrate and have a large variety of applications,including the coupling of light through an optical *** coupling efficiency is usually obtained using assembled micro-optical parts,which considerably increase the system cost and integration *** this work,we report a high coupling efficiency,monolithically integrated silicon micromirror with controlled three-dimensional(3d)curvature that is capable of manipulating optical beams propagating in the plane of the silicon *** on our theoretical modeling,a spherical micromirror with a microscale radius of curvature as small as twice the Gaussian beam Rayleigh range provides a 100%coupling efficiency over a relatively long optical path *** dimensionless parameters facilitates the elucidation of the role of key design parameters,including the mirror’s radii of curvature,independent of the wavelength.A micromachining method is presented for fabricating the 3d micromirror using fluorinated gas *** measured coupling efficiency was greater than 50%over a 200-mm optical path,compared to less than 10%afforded by a conventional flat micromirror,which was in good agreement with the *** the 3d micromirror,an optical cavity was formed with a round-trip diffraction loss of less than 0.4%,resulting in one order of magnitude enhancement in the measured quality factor.A nearly 100%coupling was also estimated when matching the sagittal and tangential radii of curvature of the presented micromirror’s *** reported class of 3d micromirrors may be an advantageous replacement for the optical lenses usually assembled in silicon photonics and optical benches by transforming them into real 3d monolithic systems while achieving wideband high coupling efficiency over submillimeter distances.

This paper reports fast and efficient chemical decontamination of water within a tree-branched centimeter-scale microfluidic *** microreactor integrates Zinc oxide nanowires(ZnO NWs)in situ grown acting as an efficient photocatalytic nanomaterial *** growth of ZnO NWs within the microfluidic chamber brings this photocatalytic medium at the very close vicinity of the water flow path,hence minimizing the required interaction time to produce efficient purification *** demonstrate a degradation efficiency of 95%in o5 s of residence time in one-pass *** to our estimates,it becomes attainable using microfluidic reactors to produce decontamination of merely 1 l of water per day,typical of the human daily drinking water *** conduct our experiments,we have chosen a laboratory-scale case study as a seed for addressing the health concern of water contamination by volatile organic compounds(VOCs),which remain difficult to remove using alternative decontamination techniques,especially those involving water *** contaminated water sample contains mixture of five pollutants:Benzene;Toluene;Ethylbenzene;m–p Xylenes;and o-Xylene(BTEX)diluted in water at 10 *** of *** was analytically monitored in a selective manner until it falls below 1 *** each of the five pollutants,corresponding to the maximum contaminant level(MCL)established by the US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA).We also report on a preliminary study,investigating the nature of the chemical by-products after the photocatalytic VOCs degradation process.

Solitary pulmonary metastasis arising thirteen years after liver transplantation for HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma

We described a 59-year-old male patient who underwent liver transplantation in 1989 for hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） complicating hepatitis B virus （HBV） cirrhosis. In 2001 （12 years after liver transplantation）, he developed a lung metastasis of HCC without intrahepatic recurrence and the resection was done. In July 2003, he was symptom free without any recurrence. HCC metastasis can develop even after a very long time of liver transplantation. Many HCCs grow slowly, and the growth rate of recurrent tumors in patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy is significantly greater than that of those who do not receive immunosuppressive therapy.

AIM: The aqueous methanolic extracts of two plants from Algeria, Helichrysum stoechas subsp. rupestre and Phagnalon saxatile subsp. saxatile, were investigated for their antioxidant activity. METHOd: Total phenolics, flavonoids, and tannins were determined by spectrophotometric techniques..In vitro antioxidant and radical scavenging profiling was determined by spectrophotometric methods, through: Total antioxidant capacity, and radical scavenging effects by the dPPH and ABTS methods, reducing and chelating power, and blanching inhibition of the β-carotene. RESULTS: All of the extracts showed interesting antioxidant and radical scavenging activity. The highest contents in phenolics, tannins, and the highest total antioxidant capacity as gallic acid equivalents of 97.5 ± 0.33 mg GAE/g dW was obtained for the flowers of H. stoechas subsp. rupestre extract in the phosphomolybdenum assay. An extract of the leafy stems of P. saxatile subsp. saxatile revealed the highest content of flavonoids, and the highest antioxidant activity by the radical scavenging and β-carotene assays when compared with standards. The best activity was by the scavenging radical dPPH with an IC50 value of 5.65 ± 0.10 μg·mL-1. CONCLUSION: The studied medicinal plants could provide scientific evidence for some traditional uses in the treatment of diseases related to the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and oxidative stress.

Idiomarina loihiensis was isolated from the salt works in Sfax (Tunisia), until now, the characterization of the GAPdH phosphorylante was never studied. Here, we report the isolation and the biochemical characterization of glyceralehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPdH) fromI. loihiensis saline’s bacteria on the basis of the apparent native and subunit molecular weights, physico-chemical and kinetic characterizations. The purification method consisted of two steps, ammonium sulfate fractionation followed by one chromatographic step, namely dye-affinity on Blue Sepharose CL-6B. Polyclonal antibodies against the purified enzyme were used to recognize theI. loihiensis GAPdH by Western blotting. The optimum pH of the purified enzyme was 8.5. Studies on the effect of temperatures revealed an enzyme increasing activity of about 45?C. The molecular weight of the purified enzyme was 36 kda determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Non-denaturing polyacrylamide gels yield a molecular weight of 147 kda. The Michaelis constants for NAd+ and d-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate estimated was 19 μM and 3.1 μM, respectively. The maximal velocity of the purified enzyme was estimated to be 2.06 U/mg, approximately 6-fold increase in specific activity and a final yield of approximately 32.5%. The physicochemical properties of this GAPdH, being characterized, could be used in further studies.
