Background:Acetaminophen(APAP)overdose can cause liver injury and liver failure,which is one of the most common causes of drug-induced liver injury in the United *** activation of autophagy by inhibiting mechanistic target of rapamycin(mTOR)protects against APAP-induced liver injury likely via autophagic removal of APAP-adducts and damaged *** the present study,we aimed to investigate the role of genetic ablation of mTOR pathways in mouse liver in APAP-induced liver injury and liver repair/***:Albumin-Cre(Alb-Cre)mice,mTOR^(f/f) and Raptor^(f/f) mice(C57BL/6J background)were crossbred to produce liver-specific mTOR knockout(L-mTOR KO,Alb Cret/-,mTOR^(f/f))and liver-specific Raptor KO(L-Raptor,Alb Cret/-,Raptor^(f/f))***-Cre littermates were used as wild-type(WT)*** mice were treated with APAP for various time points for up to 48 *** injury,cell proliferation,autophagy and mTOR activation were ***:We found that genetic deletion of neither Raptor,an important adaptor protein in mTOR complex 1,nor mTOR,in the mouse liver significantly protected against APAP-induced liver injury despite increased hepatic autophagic *** deletion of Raptor or mTOR in mouse livers did not affect APAP metabolism and APAP-induced c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK)activation,but slightly improved mouse survival likely due to increased hepatocyte ***:Our results indicate that genetic ablation of mTOR in mouse livers does not protect against APAP-induced liver injury but may slightly improve liver regeneration and mouse survival after APAP overdose.

Acupuncture points or acupressure points have been popularly used for thousands years for Chinese to cure various illness or pains. The method comes with less or no side effects, comparing the western medicine chemicals. With the new computer information technologies, the ancient Chinese healing tool could be very convenient for people to take care of themselves at home or work. In this paper, the authors present their online database system for locating the acupressure points. A case study shows the details of the design and structure of the online system.

This work presents a simple method to functionalise the surface of AZ31 magnesium alloy by applying a duplex MgF_(2)/chitosan coating,which improves its corrosion resistance and provides it with some antibacterial ***,the effect of three chitosan solutions with different concentrations on the growth of the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae in nutritive medium(TSB)was evaluated by absorbance kinetics experiments,where the chitosan solution at 2%(m/V)was selected for the coating *** coating application,the AZ31 substrate was pretreated with hydrofluoric acid for 48 hours in order to form a MgF_(2)conversion ***,the coating was applied to the pretreated substrate through the dry-casting *** of the alloy in each surface condition(bare,pretreated,and pretreated+coated with chitosan)were exposed to simulated body fluid(SBF)for 21 days at 37°C,with the solution renewed every 24 hours and the wastes *** surfaces were characterised by SEM-EDS,and XPS after the immersion tests,whereas the stored solutions were employed to measure the change in the Mg-ions *** impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarisation were performed in each surface condition to compare their corrosion resistance in *** antibacterial activity of the functionalised surfaces was evaluated by the plate counting method and compared with bare *** results were correlated and demonstrate that the modified surface of AZ31 achieved a higher corrosion resistance when it was exposed to SBF,as well as a reduction of the bacterial growth during in vitro tests.

Population Levels of Climate Change Fear in the United States

There is increasing evidence that climate change, like other natural disasters has the potential for significant human health impacts, including mental health. Fear as a psychological construct concerning climate change is not well understood. An online cross-sectional survey was conducted, targeting a demographically representative sample of Americans (n = 546) in terms of ethnicity, age, and gender. Survey questions included demographic information and global questions regarding self-rated anxiety and fear of climate change. Ordinal logistic models were created to determine which demographic factors were most predictive of climate change fear in the US population. Over half of the study sample (50.9%) indicated being moderately or very afraid of climate change. In the end, only three factors remained significant (p < 0.001) in the model;self-reported level of anxiety, political affiliation, and identifying and Hispanic/Latino. Climate change fear is still not understood, especially in terms of its impact on the mental health of the population in general, though prolonged fear can be an antecedent to other mental health disorders. This study had demonstrated that fear of climate change impacts over half of the U.S population. Level of fear differs significantly by demographic. This study has provided evidence that climate change fear impacts a significant proportion of the US population, prompting a need to investigate the potential acute and long-term impacts of this fear on the human psyche. The harms and benefits of the fear response to climate change should be explored as well as potential responses to fear due to climate change.
