Post-disaster very high resolution（VHR） satellite data are potential sources to provide detailed information on damage and geological changes for a large area in a short *** this paper,we studied landslides triggered by the M_w 6.9 earthquake in Sikkim,India which occurred on 18 September 2011 using VHR data from Cartosat-1,GeoEye-1,QuickBird-2 and WorldView-2 *** the earthquake-affected area is located in mostly inaccessible Himalayan terrain,VHR data from these satellites provided a unique opportunity for quick and synoptic assessment of the *** visual change analysis technique through comparison of pre- and post-earthquake images,we assessed the damage caused by the event.A total of 123 images acquired from eight satellites,covering an area of4105 km2 were analysed and 1196 new landslides triggered by the earthquake were *** blockages and severely affected villages were also *** assessment of the terrain highlighted linear disposition of landslides along existing fault scarps,suggesting a reactivation of *** landslide inventory map prepared from VHR images also showed a good correlation with the earthquake shake *** showed that several parts of north Sikkim,particularly Mangan and Chungthang,which are close to the epicentre,were severely affected by the earthquake,and that the event-based landslide inventory map can be used in future earthquake-triggered landslide susceptibility assessment studies.

BACKGROUND Procalcitonin(Pct)is a common biomarker in clinical practice,especially in the era of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** it is frequently used for the diagnosis and prognostication of bacterial infections or sepsis,it is also elevated in a few other conditions,including medullary thyroid carcinoma(MTC).CASE SUMMARY A 43-year-old female presented with moderately severe COVID-19 pneumonia in April *** gradually recovered clinically;however,despite normalization of other inflammatory markers,Pct levels remained persistently *** workup identified the cause as left lobe MTC with locoregional *** levels were high,and carcinoembryonic antigen levels were *** patient underwent total thyroidectomy and neck dissection,which was followed by another radical neck dissection due to residual ***,she is doing well,nearly having completed her course of external beam radiotherapy with no *** is well documented as a screening tool for MTC,especially because of its stable nature compared to calcitonin in the community *** is important to keep in mind the differential diagnosis of MTC in patients with persistently elevated Pct levels despite normal levels of other acute phase *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first report from Asia of such an incidental diagnosis of MTC due to persistently elevated Pct levels in a patient with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)*** Persistently elevated Pct levels can occur in any pro-inflammatory state including infections,sepsis,or acute respiratory distress *** the current setting,SARS-CoV-2 infection is one such clinical scenario,and in rare situations of persistent elevation,MTC may need to be ruled out.

It has been an established fact that comminution processes, crushing and grinding, are most energy intensive processes which account for more than half of the total energy consumed in mineral *** alternative pre-treatment methods have been tried by experts around the globe. Although these methods yielded positive results in terms of reduction in energy consumption in crushing and particularly, in grinding operations at laboratory scale, their industrial application still remains an unresolved issue and challenge. Present review paper describes each one of these methods along with outcome of earlier studies and issues that need to be addressed through further rigorous experimental *** also suggests the direction in which future studies can be carried out to meet the primary objective of making comminution processes more energy efficient than today they are.

Flow of two immiscible fluids gives rise to variety of flow patterns,which influence transportation *** this work,we present detailed analysis on the prediction of flow pattern maps and radial distribution of volume fraction,pressure and velocity of a pair of immiscible liquids through a horizontal pipeline by computational fluid dynamics（CFD） simulation using ANSYS FLUENT *** viscous oil and water have been taken as the fluid pair for *** of fluid（VOF） method has been employed to predict various flow patterns by assuming unsteady flow,immiscible liquid pair,constant liquid properties,and co-axial *** the grid independent study,we have selected 47 037 number of quadrilateral mesh elements for the entire *** successfully predicts almost all the flow patterns（viz.,plug,slug,stratified wavy,stratified mixed and annular）,except dispersion of oil in water and dispersion of water in *** simulated results are validated with experimental results of oil volume fraction and flow pattern *** distribution of volume fraction,pressure and velocity profiles describe the nature of the stratified wavy,stratified mixed and annular flow *** profiles help to developing the phenomenological correlations of interfacial characteristics in two-phase flow.

Hexagonal and triangular Au microplates extending over an area of~12,000μm^(2) with thickness in the range 30-1000 nm have been synthesized using a single step thermolysis of(AuCl_(4))^(-)-tetraoctylammonium bromide complex in *** microplates are self-supporting and can be easily manipulated using a sharp pin,a property which enables them to serve as substrates for living *** microplate surface is non-toxic to living cells and can enhance the fluorescence signal from fluorophores residing within the cell by an order of *** addition,the microplates are smooth and single-crystalline,and ideal as microscopy substrates and molecular *** growth of the microplates in the initial stages is interesting in that they seem to grow perpendicular to the substrate,as evidenced by in situ microscopy.

BACKGROUND In patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis(PD),catheter dysfunction is a common complication.A misplaced catheter is one of the reasons contributing to its *** present study aimed to describe a case of misplaced PD catheter with an unusual location of the catheter *** SUMMARY A 61-year-old man undergoing PD for 4 years was investigated for progressive nausea and fatigue of 3 *** adequacy studies indicated inefficient *** discovered that the PD catheter tip was mispositioned in the pelvic cavity with its tip outside the peritoneal *** the dialysate accumulating outside the peritoneal cavity,the patient had not developed perineal or scrotal *** patient had experienced a sustainable prolonged dialysis efficacy in this case until the renal function deteriorated further in view of the poor dialysis outcome and worsening health *** patient was subsequently transitioned to *** Proper placement of the catheter in the peritoneal cavity should always be confirmed and rechecked when necessary in patients undergoing PD to ensure dialytic adequacy.

Conventional 2D intestinal models cannot precisely recapitulate biomimetic features in vitro and thus are unsuitable for various pharmacokinetic applications,development of disease models,and understanding the host-microbiome ***,recently,efforts have been directed toward recreating in vitro models with intestine-associated unique 3D crypt-villus(for small intestine)or crypt-lumen(for large intestine)*** review comprehensively delineates the current advancements in this research area in terms of the different microfabrication technologies(photolithography,laser ablation,and 3D bioprinting)employed and the physiological relevance of the obtained models in mimicking the features of native intestinal tissue.A major thrust of the manuscript is also on highlighting the dynamic interplay between intestinal cells(both the stem cells and differentiated ones)and different biophysical,biochemical,and mechanobiological cues along with interaction with other cell types and intestinal microbiome,providing goals for the future developments in this *** article also manifests an outlook toward the application of induced pluripotent stem cells in the context of intestinal tissue *** a concluding note,challenges and prospects for clinical translation of 3D patterned intestinal tissue models have been discussed.

Discharge water temperature assessment of thermal power plantusing remote sensing techniques

Thermal power plants are generally constructed near to sea coast to meet their requirement of coolingwater. The warm water discharge from the thermal power plant is one of the major environmentalconcerns in view of the thermal pollution in the sea water. The temperature limit for the warm waterdischarge from the thermal power plant has to be monitored and controlled. Coastal Gujarat PowerLimited (CGPL) operates (24×7) at an “once-through system” based sea water circulation for powergeneration. The used sea water is then discharged into the sea through an outlet channel. As per environmental norms, the discharge water temperature needs to be maintained below the stipulated “delta”rise (+7 ℃) with respect to ambient sea surface temperature at the inlet. We demonstrate the applicability of thermal remote sensing data in understanding the seasonal and temporal variations of thetemperature difference between the discharge water and the ambient sea water. We used thermal banddata from Landsat-8 satellite imagery to map water surface temperature and create temperature profilesalong the intake and outflow channels (till the sea), to understand the variation of temperature andestimate the “DT” between intake point and various observation points along the outflow. This analysiswas carried out for all 11 months (except June) of the year 2018 to correlate temperature variations withseasonal changes. Tidal conditions during the time of data acquisition were also considered to accountfor the effect of tides on DT. The result shows that the average temperature rise between intake andoutflow are maintained at ~3 ℃ across all the months of 2018, with minor variations in the months ofJuly and August. Further, average temperature drop from outflow to cooling channel (before diaphragm)is seen to be ~2 ℃ across all the months with similar seasonal fluctuations.
