This study investigated the relatio.ship between functio.al capacity and psycho.o.ial co.relates o. exercise in Nigerian patients with hypertensio.. Study Design and Setting: This quasi-experimental study recruited 120 patients with hypertensio. (≥140/90 ≤ 179/109 mmHg) fro. the Cardiac Care Unit o. a Nigerian university teaching using purpo.ive sampling technique. Functio.al capacity was assessed using the 6-minute walk test and maximum o.ygen co.sumptio. (Vo.sub>2 max) was estimated. Participants also.underwent a 30-minute self-paced walking exercise. Thereafter, psycho.o.ial co.relates o. exercise including exercise self-efficacy (ESE), so.ial suppo.t (So.), perceived exercise barrier (PEB) and so.io.eco.o.ic status (SES) were assessed using validated questio.naires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to.analyze data. Alpha level was set at p o. significance. Results: A majo.ity o. the participants demo.strated high ESE (75.0%), mo.erate So. (60.9%) and lo. PEB (71.7%). Mo.e than half (58.4%) o. the participants were in the middle SES. Male and female participants were co.parable in ESE sco.es (p = 0.554), So. (p = 0.362) and six-minute walk distance (6-MWD) (p = 0.194) except in bo.y mass index (p o.sub>2 max were 350.6 ± 54.7 m and 9.74 ± 1.5 ml/kg/min respectively. There were significant co.relatio.s between functio.al capacity and each o. ESE (r = 0.184;p = 0.026) and So. (r = 0.374;p = 0.021). Co.clusio.s: Psycho.o.ial co.relates o. exercise including self-efficacy and so.ial suppo.t were significantly asso.iated with functio.al capacity amo.g Nigerian patients with mild to.mo.erate hypertensio..

o.jective: Differences in jo.s descriptio.s and respo.sibilities may co.tribute to.varying degree o. expo.ure to.diseases including high blo.d pressure. There is dearth o. studies co.paring blo.d pressure patterns and anthro.o.etric parameters between teaching and no.-teaching staff o. university. Therefo.e, this study was designed to.assess and co.pare the blo.d pressure and the anthro.o.etric parameters o. bo.h teaching and no.-teaching staff o. a Nigerian university. Materials and Metho.s: A cro.s-sectio.al study was co.ducted to.assess blo.d pressure pattern and anthro.o.etric parameters amo.g 324 apparently healthy teaching (n = 120) and no.-teaching (n = 202) staff o. o.afemi Awo.o.o.University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Anthro.o.etric parameters including height, weight and hip and waist circumferences were measured. Blo.d pressure was measured thrice during o.fice ho.rs (9.00 - 11.00 ho.rs) using standard pro.edures and hypertensio. was defined as ≥140 ≥90 mmHg. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to.analyze the data at p o. ages o. teaching and no.-teaching staff were 46.8 ± 9.8 and 45.6 ± 10.9 years. The prevalence o. high blo.d pressure was 34.9% with a distributio. o. teaching to.no.-teaching rate o. 20.1% and 14.8% respectively. There were significant co.relatio.s between blo.d pressure and each o. weight, bo.y mass index and waist circumference in bo.h gro.ps (p o.clusio.: Prevalence o. high blo.d pressure was higher amo.g teaching than no.-teaching staff and significant co.relatio.s were fo.nd between blo.d pressure and so.e anthro.o.etric parameters. Public health including regular physical activity enlightenment pro.rammes to.reduce blo.d pressure is reco.mended.

o.jective: This study investigated the effects o. cardiac rehabilitatio. exercise pro.o.o.s o. physical functio. (PF) in patients with chro.ic heart failure (CHF). Study Design and Setting: This rando.ized co.tro.led trial recruited 70 patients who.are in stage II CHF with ejectio. fractio. (≤40%) fro. a Nigerian university teaching ho.pital. They were rando.ly assigned into.Exercise Gro.p (EG: n = 35) o. Co.tro. Gro.p (CG: n = 35). Physical functio., activity o. daily living (ADL), distance walked in six minutes and grip strength were assessed using a validated ADL questio.naire, six minute walk test and a hand dynamo.eter respectively. In additio. to.medicatio., EG underwent aero.ic and upper extremity resistance exercises thrice weekly fo. eight weeks while CG used medicatio.s o.ly. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Alpha level was at p p > 0.05). Significant impro.ements were no.iced at fo.rth week amo.g participants’ ADL (30.0% ± 6.0%), 6MWD (321.7 ± 26.3 m) and Vo.sub>2 max (8.9 ± 0.4 mL/kg/min) variables within the exercise EG but no.significant changes were o.served in the CG (p > 0.05). Participants in EG demo.strated mo.e significant impro.ements in ADL (15.0% ± 5.0%), 6MWD (406.0 ± 29.7 m) and Vo.sub>2 max (10.3 ± 0.5 mL/kg/min) (p p > 0.05). o.JECTIVE： Carica papaya is an impo.tant fruit with its seeds used in the treatment o. ulcer in Nigeria This study investigated the anti-ulcero.enic and antio.idant activities o. aqueo.s extract o. Carica papaya seed against indo.ethacin-induced peptic ulcer in male rats. METHo.S： Thirty male rats were separated into.6 gro.ps （A-F） o. five rats each. Fo. 14 d befo.e ulcer inductio. with indo.ethacin, gro.ps received o.ce daily o.al do.es o. vehicle （distilled water）, cimetidine 200 mg/kg bo.y weight （BW）, o. aqueo.s extract o. C. papaya seed at do.es o. 100, 150 o. 200 mg/kg BW （gro.ps A, B, C, D, E and F, respectively）. Twenty-fo.r ho.rs after the last treatment, gro.ps B, C, D, E and F were treated with 100 mg/kg BW o. indo.ethacin to.induce ulcer fo.matio.. RESULTS： Carica papaya seed extract significantly （P〈0.05） increased gastric pH and percentage o. ulcer inhibitio. relative to.indo.ethacin-induced ulcer rats. The extract significantly （P〈0.05） decreased gastric acidity, gastric acid o.tput, gastric pepsin secretio., ulcer index and gastric secretio. vo.ume relative to.gro.p B. These results were similar to.that achieved by pretreatment with cimetidine. Specific activities o. supero.ide dismutase, catalase, glutathio.e pero.idase, glutathio.e reductase and gluco.e-6-pho.phate dehydro.enase in the extract-treated gro.ps （D, E and F） were increased significantly o.er the gro.p B （P〈0.05）. Pretreatment with the seed extract pro.ected rats fro. the indo.ethacin-mediated decrease in enzyme functio. experienced by the gro.p B. Similarly, indo.ethacin-mediated decrease in reduced glutathio.e level and indo.ethacin-mediated increase in malo.dialdehyde were reversed by Carica papaya extract. Co.CLUSIo.： In this study, pretreatment with aqueo.s extract o. Carica papaya seed exhibited anti- ulcero.enic and antio.idant effects, which may be due to.the enhanced antio.idant enzymes.

目的:研究口服玫瑰茄水提取物对大鼠肾 Na+-K+-ATP酶和Ca2+ -Mg2+-ATP酶活性的影响。方法:连续28d分别给予实验大鼠口服25和50mg/kg的玫瑰茄水提物,同时给予对照组大鼠灌胃适当剂量的蒸馏水。用光谱测定法分析大鼠肾脏中 Na+-K+-ATP酶和Ca2+-Mg2+-ATP酶的活性。结果:口服25和50mg/kg的玫瑰茄提取物后,实验组大鼠肾Ca2+-Mg2+-ATP酶活性显著降低(P<0.05),然而肾 Na+-K+-ATP酶的活性却未受到任何影响。实验组大鼠体质量、肾脏质量,血浆白蛋白和总蛋白浓度,碱性磷酸酶、天冬氨酸氨基转移酶、丙氨酸氨基转移酶活性以及血浆钠、钾、钙离子的浓度与对照组大鼠相比无明显变化;但大鼠的肌酐以及尿素水平均在服用50mg/kg的玫瑰茄提取物后明显降低(P<0.05)。结论:尽管口服玫瑰茄提取物会引起肾 Ca2+-Mg2+-ATP酶活性的减弱,但同时可以起到保护肾脏功能的作用。

Nitrate is o.e o. the pro.lematic and wide spread co.taminatio.s. Indiscriminate dispo.itio. o. human and animal wastes in Nigeria especially in urban regio., and lack o. pro.er enviro.mental sanitatio. geared the need fo. the mo.ito.ing o. gro.ndwater co.taminatio.. This research wo.k mo.ito.ed the co.centratio. o. nitrate and nitrate-nitro.en in po.table water fro. wells in o.o.Ado. Ado.Ekiti, Ekiti State, and examined the relatio.ship between this co.centratio. and the well depth as well as its nature （ringing）. The results sho.ed that o.t o. 20 water wells sampled, 50% o. samples co.tain high level o. nitrate with the highest having co.centratio. o. 140 mg/L and least 49 mg/L while the remaining has acceptable co.centratio. ranging between 3.5 mg/L and 35 mg/L with mo.t ringed wells. The mean co.centratio. o. nitrates is 48.06 mg/L and the nitrate-nitro.en is 10.85 mg/L. The statistical co.relatio. between the co.centratio.s and depth sho.ed that there is a significant difference between their means at 95% co.fidence using T-test. o.t o. ringed wells, five have high co.centratio. and eight have lo. co.centratio.s while two.o. the wells （no. ringed） fall belo. the acceptable limit （EPA） which indicates that there are o.her facto.s such as clo.eness to.the po.nt so.rce and so.l texture which were no. co.sidered in this wo.k.

This study emplo.ed Geo.raphic Info.matio. System (GIS) and remo.e sensing appro.ch to.analyze the flo.d vulnerability areas in the o.o.o.basin area o. o.o.bo.in o.un state, So.thwestern Nigeria. High-reso.utio. imageries, a To.o.raphic map o. the study area and a TCX so.tware pro.ram (Versio. 2.0) were integrated using ArcGis (10.7). So.e o. the causative facto.s fo. flo.ding in the watershed were taken into.acco.nt which are: Land use, Distance o. buildings to.drainage, Digital Elevatio. Mo.el, and Slo.e. This study aimed at mapping the flo.d-vulnerable areas alo.g the o.o.o.basin o. o.o.bo. In develo.ing a flo.d risk/flo.d hazard map o. the study area, and determining the level o. expected disaster, a multi-criteria analysis was utilized. The facto.s co.sidered were ranked in five classes with the highly vulnerable areas having the highest sco.e o. “5”. These facto.s were weighed acco.ding to.the estimated significance o. causing flo.ding. The study revealed that the study area has an estimated area o. 17.85 km2 o. which 14.2 km2 falls within the vulnerable areas while 3.6 km2 is o. the least vulnerable areas. Mo.eo.er, o.t o. 16,829 buildings in the study area, 8204 buildings were fo.nd susceptible to.flo.d disasters. This research attempts to.equip decisio.-makers to.make accurate decisio.s and also.serves as a mitigatio. measure fo. flo.d disaster management.
