Influences of top clearance and liquid throughput on the performances of an external loop airlift slurry reactor integrated mixing and separation

A new developed external loop airlift slurry reactor, which was integrated with gas–liquid–solid three-phase mixing, mass transfer, and liquid–solid separation simultaneously, was deemed to be a promising slurry reactor due to its prominent advantages such as achieving continuous separation of clear liquid from slurry and cyclic utilization of solid particles without any extra energy, energy-saving, and intrinsic safety design. The principal operating parameters, including gas separator volume, handling capacity, and superficial gas velocity, are systematically investigated here to promote the capabilities of mixing, mass transfer, and yield in the pilot external loop airlift slurry reactor. The influences of top clearance and throughput of the clear liquid on flow regime and gas holdup in the riser, liquid circulating velocity, and volumetric mass transfer coefficient with a typical high solid holdup and free of particles are examined experimentally. It was found that increasing the gas separator volume could promote the liquid circulating velocity by about 14.0% at most. Increasing the handling capacity of the clear liquid from 0.9 m3·h-1 to 3.0 m3·h-1 not only could increase the output without any adverse consequences, but also could enhance the liquid circulating velocity as much as 97.3%. Typical operating conditions investigated here can provide some necessary data and guidelines for this new external loop airlift slurry reactor to upgrade its performances.

Optimized Separation of Pharmacologically Active Xanthones from Securidaca inappendiculata by Capillary Electrophoresis

A capillary electrophoresis (CE) method has been firstly used for the separation of the therapeutically important xanthones from Securidaca inappendiculata. The separation of the nine xanthones was systematically optimized with respect to pH, concentration of running buffers, addition of sulfated b-CD, applied voltage and column temperature. Baseline separation was achieved for the nine xanthones in less than 15 minutes using a background electrolyte consisting of 200 mmol/L borate (pH 9.5) and 10 mmol/L sulfated b-CD.

The one-step highly selective oxidation of cyclohexane into cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol as the essential intermediates of nylon-6 and nylon-66 is considerably ***,an efficient and low-cost catalyst must be urgently developed to improve the efficiency of this *** this study,a Co_(3)O_(4)–CeO2 composite oxide catalyst was successfully prepared through ultrasound-assisted *** catalyst exhibited a higher selectivity to KA-oil,which was benefited from the synergistic effects between Co^(3+))/Co^(2+))and Ce^(4+)/Ce^(3+)redox pairs,than bulk CeO2 and/or Co_(3)O_(4).Under the optimum reaction conditions,89.6%selectivity to KA-oil with a cyclohexane conversion of 5.8%was achieved over Co_(3)O_(4)–*** catalytic performance remained unchanged after five *** the synergistic effects between the redox pairs of different transition metals,this study provides a feasible strategy to design high-performance catalysts for the selective oxidation of alkanes.

Separation of Biphenyl Nitrile Compounds by Microemulsion Electrokinetic Chromatography with Mixed Surfactants

A mixture of nine biphenyl nitrile compounds with high hydrophobicity and similar structures was successfully separated by microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) within 30 min. The buffer system contained 100 mmol/L sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), 80 mmol/L sodium cholate (SC), 0.81% heptane, 7.5% n-butanol, 10% acetonitrile and 10 mmol/L borate. The addition of SC, organic modifiers, sample preparation and temperature all showed remarkable effect on the separation. Meanwhile, the MEEKC method was briefly compared with micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) method.

Genetic Stability of Resistance of Bean(Phasedus vulgaris L.)to Glyphosate

Thirty lines of bean were tested for resistance to glyphosate in the *** difference in resistance response to glyphosate was detected when glyphosate was applied at the rate of 1kg ai/ha on the 15th day after emergence of *** ling 89-05 showed high resistance with a survival of 77%.Even after glyphosate was reapplied,the survival rats was still 20%.Obvious segregation was found in Progency of 89-05 for resistance to glyphosate;the survival rate of lined 89-05-1 89-05-2 and 89-05-3 were,respectively.42.3%,51.4% and 85.7% at 1kg ai/ha of the *** 89-05-3 continued to show resistance and lines 89-05-3-5 and 89-05-3-7 both had a survival rate of 100%.When glyphosate was applied with a rate over 1kg ai/ha, the survival rate of the 89-05 -3- 5 was still between 50%-98%.

Acetaminophen(ACE)is commonly used in analgesic and antipyretic drug,which is hardly removed by traditional wastewater treatment ***,amorphous Co(OH)_(2)nanocages were explored as peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activator for efficient degradation of *** the presence of amorphous Co(OH)_(2)nanocages,100%of ACE removal was reached within 2 min with a reaction rate constant k_(1)=3.68 min 1 at optimum pH 5,which was much better than that of crystallineβ-Co(OH)_(2)and Co_(3)O_(4).Amorphous materials(disorder atom arrangement)with hollow structures possess large specific surface area,more reactive sites,and abundant vacancies structures,which could efficiently facilitate the catalytic redox *** radicals quenching experiment demonstrated that SO_(4)^(·-)radicals dominated the ACE degradation rather than^(·)OH *** mechanism of ACE degradation was elucidated by the an alysis of degradation in termediates and theoretical calculation,indicating that the electrophilic SO_(4)^(·-)and^(·)OH tend to attack the atoms of ACE with high Fukui index(f).Our finding highlights the remarkable advantages of amorphous materials as heterogeneous catalysts in sulfate radicals-based AOPs and sheds new lights on water treatment for the degradation of emerging organic contaminants.

The present study evaluated a photo-Fenton reactive membrane that achieved enhanced 1,4-Dioxane removal *** a common organic solvent and stabilizer,1,4-Dioxane is widely used in a variety of industrial products and poses negative environmental and health *** membrane was prepared by covalently coating photocatalyst of goethite(α-FeOOH)on a ceramic porous membrane as we reported *** effects of UV irradiation,H_(2)O_(2)and catalyst on the removal efficiency of 1,4-Dioxane in batch reactors were first evaluated for optimized reaction conditions,followed by a systematical investigation of 1,4-Dioxane removal in the photo-Fenton membrane filtration *** optimized conditions,the 1,4-Dioxane removal rate reached up to 16%with combination of 2 mmol/L H_(2)O_(2)and UV365 irradiation(2000µW/cm^(2))when the feed water was filtered by the photo-Fenton reactive membrane at a hydraulic retention time of 6 *** removal efficiency and apparent quantum yield(AQY)were both enhanced in the filtration compared to the batch mode of the same photo-Fenton ***,the proposed degradation pathways were analyzed by density functional theory(DFT)calculations,which provided a new insight into the degradation mechanisms of 1,4-Dioxane in photo-Fenton reactions on the functionalized ceramic membrane.

Marine microorganisms have long been recognized as potential sources for drug *** was one of the first antifungal natural products and has been used as an antifungal agent for *** this study,12 new griseofulvin derivatives[(±)-1-2,(+)-3,(±)-4,10-12,and 14-15]and two new griseofulvin natural products(9 and 16)together with six known analogues[(-)-3,5-8,and 13]were isolated from the mangrove-derived fungus Nigrospora ***1 treated with 0.3%NaCl or 2%NaBr in rice solid *** 2D structures and absolute configurations were established by extensive spectroscopic analysis(1D and 2D NMR,HRESIMS),ECD spectra,computational calculation,DP4+analysis,and X-ray single-crystal *** 1-4 represent the first griseofulvin enantiomers with four absolute configurations(2S,6'S;2R,6'R;2S,6'R;2R,6'S),and compounds 9-12 represent the first successful production of brominated griseofulvin derivatives from fungi via the addition of NaBr to the culture *** the antifungal assays,compounds 6 and 9 demonstrated significant inhibitory activities against the fungi Colletotrichum truncatum,Microsporum gypseum,and Trichophyton mentagrophyte with inhibition zones varying between 28 and 41 mm(10μg/disc).The structure-activity relationship(SAR)was analyzed,which showed that substituents at C-6,C-7,C-6'and the positions of the carbonyl and double bond of griseofulvin derivatives significantly affected the antifungal activity.
