Two-dimensional(2D)soft materials,especially in their self-supported forms,demonstrate attractive properties to realize biomimetic morphing and ultrasensitive sensing.Although extensive efforts on design of self-supported functional membranes and integrated systems have been devoted,there still remains an unexplored regime of the combination of mechanical,electrical and surface wetting properties for specific functions.Here,we report a self-supported film featured with elastic,thin,conductive and superhydrophobic characteristics.Through a well-defined surface modification strategy,the surface wettability and mechanical sensing can be effectively balanced.The resulted film can function as a smart umbrella to achieve real-time simulated raining with diverse frequencies and intensity.In addition,the integrated umbrella can even response sensitively to the sunlight and demonstrate a positively correlation of current signals with the intensity of sun illumination.Moreover,the superhydrophobic umbrella can be further employed to realize water rescue,which can take the underwater object onto water surface,load and rapidly transport the considerable weight.More importantly,the whole process of loaded objects and water flow velocity can be precisely detected.The self-supported smart umbrella can effectively monitor the weather and realize a smart water rescue,demonstrating significant potentials in multifunctional sensing and directional actuation in the presence of water.

We report an experimental investigation on the Doppler-free saturated absorption spectroscopy of buffer-gas-cooled Barium monofluoride(BaF)molecules in a 4 K cryogenic cell.The obtained spectra with a resolution of 19 MHz,much smaller than previously observed in absorption spectroscopy,clearly resolve the hyperfine transitions.Moreover,we use these high-resolution spectra to fit the hyperfine splittings of excited A(v=0)state and find the hyperfine splitting of the laser-cooling-relevant A^(2)Π_(1/2)(v=0,J=1/2,+)state is about 18 MHz,much higher than the previous theoretically predicted value.This provides important missing information for laser cooling of BaF molecules.

Development and validation of a new oxide fuel rod performance analysis code for the liquid metal fast reactor

The integrity and reliability of fuel rods under both normal and accidental operating conditions are of great importance for nuclear reactors.In this study,considering various irradiation behaviors,a fuel rod performance analysis code,named KMC-Fueltra,was developed to evaluate the thermal–mechanical performance of oxide fuel rods under both normal and transient conditions in the LMFR.The accuracy and reliability of the KMC-Fueltra were validated by analytical solutions,as well as the results obtained from codes and experiments.The results indicated that KMC-Fueltra can predict the performance of oxide fuel rods under both normal and transient conditions in the LMFR.

New U-Pb zircon ages document Late Triassic Tianqiaoling flora of eastern Jinlin,NE China

The Late Triassic Tianqiaoling flora is well-known in China,and its discovery has changed our understanding of Chinese Late Triassic phytogeographical divisions.More broadly,this flora has great significance for the study of phytogeography in East Asia during this time.However,the previous dating of this flora was only evidenced by plant fossils and stratigraphic correlation,and the accurate dating has still not been achieved.In this study,rhyolite samples were collected from the bottom of the Tianqiaoling Formation,which is conformally contacted the Tianqiaoling flora-bearing beds.The results of new U-Pb dating gave ages for the rhyolites of 212.8±2.5 Ma,indicating the end of Malugou Formation and initial Tianqiaoling Formation in deposition occurred in the late Norian(~227–208.5 Ma),which is contemporaneous with the peak of the Tianqiaoling flora in development.Our radiometric dating results are basically consistent with paleobiological evidence.The new age provides a key anchor point for regional stratigraphic correlation of the Tianqiaoling flora with its related Late Triassic floras,and contribute to a better understanding of the geology and phytogeography in the East Asia,particularly in the"triangle region"covering the eastern Jilin(China),South Primorye(Russia)and Southwest Japan,during the Late Triassic.

Puncture Phenomena and Mechanism Analysis of a RTV Coated Cap and Pin Insulators in a Steep-front Impulse Voltage Test

In recent years,more than 6 million room temperature vulcanized(RTV)silicone rubber coated cap and pin insulators with high mechanical ratings were used in ultra-high voltage transmission lines in China to improve pollution performance.However,the unexpected puncture phenomena of RTV coated insulators were exposed during steep-front impulse voltage tests;for instance,the steep-front impulse voltage test pass rate decreased to less than 50% for 550 kN glass insulators with RTV coatings.The steep-front impulse voltage test is the most effective method used to check the insulation quality of cap and pin insulators・This unexpected phenomenon once caused serious concerns to power utilities.In this paper,several possible factors that affect the puncture of insulators were analyzed.Then,the extent of the decline in the breakdown of the 550 kN glass cap and pin insulators with and without RTV coatings were studied.The initial puncture location was then found,and the developmental process of the arc on the insulator surface in steep-front impulse voltage tests was observed with an ultra-high-speed intensified charge coupled device camera.Lastly,a breakdown mechanism is proposed.The puncture phenomena of a RTV coated insulator in a steep-front impulse voltage test is essentially an electrical breakdown of the internal insulation・The RTV coating induces the close adherence of the arc to the surface of the insulator.Such closeness changes the arc development path on the insulator surface and facilitates easy breakdown in the shed weak part.All these factors result in a significant increase in the breakdown probability of RTV coated insulators in steepfront impulse voltage tests.

Multisource localization based on angle distribution of time-frequency points using an FOA microphone

Multisource localization occupies an important position in the field of acoustic signal processing and is widely applied in scenarios,such as human‐machine interaction and spatial acoustic parameter acquisition.The direction‐of‐arrival(DOA)of a sound source is convenient to render spatial sound in the audio metaverse.A multisource localization method in a reverberation environment is proposed based on the angle distribution of time-frequency(TF)points using a first‐order ambisonics(FOA)microphone.The method is implemented in three steps.1)By exploring the angle distribution of TF points,a single‐source zone(SSZ)detection method is proposed by using a standard deviation‐based measure,which reveals the degree of convergence of TF point angles in a zone.2)To reduce the effect of outliers on localization,an outlier removal method is designed to remove the TF points whose angles are far from the real DOAs,where the median angle of each detected zone is adopted to construct the outlier set.3)DOA estimates of multiple sources are obtained by postprocessing of the angle histogram.Experimental results in both the simulated and real scenarios verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in a reverberation environment,which also show that the proposed method outperforms reference methods.

Numerical Investigations on the Transient Behavior of Sand Waves in Beibu Gulf Under Normal and Extreme Sea Conditions

In this study, a morphodynamic numerical model is established with the Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS)to investigate the transient behavior of sand waves under realistic sea conditions. The simulation of sand wave evolution comprises two steps: 1) a regional-scale model is configured first to simulate the ocean hydrodynamics, i.e., tides and tidal currents, and 2) the transient behavior of sand waves is simulated in a small computational domain under the time-variant currents extracted from the large model. The evolution of sand waves on the continental shelf in the Beibu Gulf is specifically investigated. The numerical results of the two-year evolution of sand waves under normal sea conditions compare well with the field survey data. The transient behavior of sand waves in individual months shows that the sand waves are more stable in April and October than that in other months, which can be selected as the windows for seabed operations. The effects of sediment properties, including settling velocity, critical shear stress and surface erosion rate, on sand wave evolution are also analyzed. Then, the typhoon-induced currents are further superimposed on the tidal currents as the extreme weather conditions. Sand waves with the average wavelength generally have more active behavior than smaller or larger sand waves. The characteristics of the evolution of sand waves in an individual typhoon process are quite different for different hydrodynamic combinations. For the storm conditions, i.e., the real combination and maximum combination cases, the sand waves experience a significant migration together with a damping in height due to the dominant suspended sediment transport. For the mild conditions, i.e., the pure tidal current and minimum combination cases, the sand waves migrate less, but the heights continue growing due to the dominant bedload transport.

AlN MEMS filters with extremely high bandwidth widening capability

This paper presents radio frequency(RF)microelectromechanical system(MEMS)filters with extremely high bandwidth widening capability.The proposed filtering topologies include hybrid configurations consisting of piezoelectric MEMS resonators and surface-mounted lumped elements.The MEMS resonators set the center frequency and provide electromechanical coupling to construct the filters,while the lumped-element-based matching networks help widen the bandwidth(BW)and enhance the out-of-band rejection.Aluminum nitride(AlN)S0 Lamb wave resonators are then applied to the proposed filtering topologies.AlN S0 first-and second-order wideband filters are studied and have shown prominent performance.Finally,the AlN S0 first-order wideband filter is experimentally implemented and characterized.The demonstrated first-order filter shows a large fractional bandwidth(FBW)of 5.6%(achieved with a resonator coupling of 0.94%)and a low insertion loss(IL)of 1.84 dB.The extracted bandwidth widening factor(BWF)is 6,which is approximately 12 times higher than those of the current ladder or lattice filtering topologies.This impressive bandwidth widening capability holds great potential for satisfying the stringent BW requirements of bands n77,n78,and n79 of 5G new radio(NR)and will overcome an outstanding technology hurdle in placing 5G NR into the marketplace.

Tropical cyclones and multiscale climate variability: The active western North Pacific typhoon season of 2018

The 2018 typhoon season in the western North Pacific(WNP) was highly active, with 26 named tropical cyclones(TCs) from June to November, which exceeded the climatological mean(22) and was the second busiest season over the past twenty years. More TCs formed in the eastern region of the WNP and the northern region of the South China Sea(SCS). More TCs took the northeast quadrant in the WNP, recurving from northwestward to northward and causing heavy damages in China's Mainland(69.73 billion yuan) in 2018. Multiscale climate variability is conducive to an active season via an enhanced monsoon trough and a weakened subtropical high in the WNP. The large-scale backgrounds in 2018 showed a favorable environment for TCs established by a developing central Pacific(CP) El Ni?o and positive Pacific meridional mode(PMM)episode on interannual timescales. The tropical central Pacific(TCP) SST forcing exhibits primary control on TCs in the WNP and large-scale circulations, which are insensitive to the PMM. During CP El Ni?o years, anomalous convection associated with the TCP warming leads to significantly increased anomalous cyclonic circulation in the WNP because of a Gill-type Rossby wave response. As a result, the weakened subtropical high and enhanced monsoon trough shift eastward and northward, which favor TC genesis and development. Although such increased TC activity in 2018 might be slightly suppressed by interdecadal climate variability, it was mostly attributed to the favorable interannual background. In addition, high-frequency climate signals,such as intraseasonal oscillations(ISOs) and synoptic-scale disturbances(SSDs), interacted with the enhanced monsoon trough and strongly modulated regional TC genesis and development in 2018.

To the Editor:Introduction of conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs(csDMARDs)has been highly efficacious in reducing the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and in delaying or preventing structural joint damage.Furthermore,the development and clinical use of biological DMARDs(bDMARDs)and targeted synthetic DMARDs(tsDMARDs)have dramatically altered the prognosis of patients with RA,particularly when they are combined with a treat-to-target regimen(T2T).[1]Consequently,over the last two decades,the rates of total hip arthroplasty(THA)and total knee arthroplasty(TKA)remained stable or even decreased in these special patient populations.Nevertheless,compared to patients with osteoarthritis,patients with RA have a higher risk of having worse functional outcomes and higher rates of complications after arthroplasty.This may be attributed to the complexity of the rheumatic disease process,including high disease activity,comorbidities,and immunosuppressive medications.[2]A key to making perioperative medication management decisions is to balance the risk of periprosthetic infection with the risk of a disease flare.
