The mammalian brain is a highly complex network that consists of millions to billions of densely-interconnected neurons.Precise dissection of neural circuits at the mesoscopic level can provide important structural information for understanding the brain.Optical approaches can achieve submicron lateral resolution and achieve“optical sectioning”by a variety of means,which has the natural advantage of allowing the observation of neural circuits at the mesoscopic level.Automated whole-brain optical imaging methods based on tissue clearing or histological sectioning surpass the limitation of optical imaging depth in biological tissues and can provide delicate structural information in a large volume of tissues.Combined with various fluorescent labeling techniques,whole-brain optical imaging methods have shown great potential in the brain-wide quantitative profiling of cells,circuits,and blood vessels.In this review,we summarize the principles and implementations of various whole-brain optical imaging methods and provide some concepts regarding their future development.

Blue energy,which includes rainfall,tidal current,wave,and water-flow energy,is a promising renewable resource,although its exploitation is limited by current technologies and thus remains low.This form of energy is mainly harvested by electromagnetic generators(EMGs),which generate electricity via Lorenz force-driven electron flows.Triboelectric nano genera tors(TENGs)and TENG networks exhibit superiority over EMGs in low-frequency and high-entropy energy harvesting as a new approach for blue energy harvesting.A TENG produces electrical outputs by adopting the mechanism of Maxwell’s displacement current.To date,a series of research efforts have been made to optimize the structure and performance of TENGs for effective blue energy harvesting and marine environmental applications.Despite the great progress that has been achieved in the use of TENGs in this context so far,continuous exploration is required in energy conversion,device durability,power management,and environmental applications.This review reports on advances in TENGs for blue energy harvesting and marine environmental monitoring.It introduces the theoretical foundations of TENGs and discusses advanced TENG prototypes for blue energy harvesting,including TENG structures that function in freestanding and contact-separation modes.Performance enhancement strategies for TENGs intended for blue energy harvesting are also summarized.Finally,marine environmental applications of TENGs based on blue energy harvesting are discussed.

Improved Multi-Bandwidth Mode Manifold for Enhanced Bearing Fault Diagnosis

Variational mode decomposition(VMD) has been proved to be useful for extraction of fault-induced transients of rolling bearings. Multi-bandwidth mode manifold(Triple M, TM) is one variation of the VMD, which units multiple fault-related modes with different bandwidths by a nonlinear manifold learning algorithm named local tangent space alignment(LTSA). The merit of the TM method is that the bearing fault-induced transients extracted contain low level of in-band noise without optimization of the VMD parameters. However, the determination of the neighborhood size of the LTSA is time-consuming, and the extracted fault-induced transients may have the problem of asymmetry in the up-and-down direction. This paper aims to improve the efficiency and waveform symmetry of the TM method.Specifically, the multi-bandwidth modes consisting of the fault-related modes with different bandwidths are first obtained by repeating the recycling VMD(RVMD) method with different bandwidth balance parameters. Then, the LTSA algorithm is performed on the multi-bandwidth modes to extract their inherent manifold structure, in which the natural nearest neighbor(Triple N, TN) algorithm is adopted to efficiently and reasonably select the neighbors of each data point in the multi-bandwidth modes. Finally, a weight-based feature compensation strategy is designed to synthesize the low-dimensional manifold features to alleviate the asymmetry problem, resulting in a symmetric TM feature that can represent the real fault transient components. The major contribution of the improved TM method for bearing fault diagnosis is that the pure fault-induced transients are extracted efficiently and are symmetrical as the real. One simulation analysis and two experimental applications in bearing fault diagnosis validate the enhanced performance of the improved TM method over the traditional methods. The research of complex networks facilitates the progress of various disciplines,including biology,chemistry,social science,computer,and communication engineering.Recently,it is popular to utilize complex networks to study the communication networks,such as designing efficient routing strategies and robust communication networks.However,exploiting the advantages of communication networks to investigate networks in various disciplines beyond telecommunications is still in infancy.Because of this situation,this paper proposes an information-defined network(IDN)framework by which a complex network can be abstracted as a communication network associated with multiple intelligent agents.Specifically,each component and dynamic process in this framework can be defined by information.We show that the IDN framework promotes the research of unsolved problems in the current complex network field,especially for detecting new interaction types in realworld networks.

Objective This study aimed to compare the postoperative analgesia and recovery of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block combined with serratus anterior plane block(ESPB combined with SAPB)versus thoracic paravertebral block(PVB)after thoracoscopic surgery.Methods Ninety-two patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS)were randomly divided into group S(n=46)and group P(n=46).After anesthesia induction,the same anesthesiologist performed ultrasound-guided ESPB at T5 and T7 levels combined with SAPB at the level of the fifth rib in the midaxillary line in group S and ultrasound-guided PVB at T5 and T7 levels in group P.Patients in both groups were given 40 mL of 0.4%ropivacaine.Eighty-six patients completed the study(group S,n=44;group P,n=42).The morphine consumption,visual analogue scale(VAS)scores at rest and coughing,and frequency of remedial analgesia were recorded at 1,2,4,8,and 24 h postoperatively.Pulmonary function parameters were recorded at 1,4,and 24 h postoperatively,and the quality of recovery(QoR)-15 score at 24 h postoperatively.The adverse effects,duration of chest tube drainage and length of stay were also recorded.Results The morphine consumption at postoperative 4 and 8 h and the incidence of ipsilateral shoulder pain(ISP)were significantly lower in group S than in group P.The QoR-15 questionnaire score at postoperative 24 h was significantly lower in group P than in group S(P<0.05).The morphine consumption was lower at 24 h postoperatively in group S than in group P,with no significant difference found yet.The morphine consumption at other observed times,VAS scores,pulmonary function parameters,frequency of remedial analgesia,duration of chest tube drainage,length of stay,and incidence of other adverse events were comparable between group S and group P.Conclusion Ultrasound-guided ESPB combined with SAPB is non-inferior to PVB in terms of morphine consumption at postoperative 24 h and postoperative recovery.But,this approach can significantly reduce morphine consumpti

High-chromium vanadium-titanium magnetite(HCVTM)is a valuable resource containing metal elements such as iron,vanadium,titanium,and chromium.To recycle these elements,direct reduction is an efficient way.The mechanism and reaction kinetic parameters for the direct reduction of HCVTM were studied.Experimental results show that the reduction degree increases obviously when the C/O ratio and temperature increase.Thermodynamic analysis showed a dramatic mass loss in the direct reduction of HCVTM in the temperature range of 985-1160℃.From 1200 to 1350℃,the reduction curves for the isothermal reduction of HCVTM followed the same trend,with a sharp increase in the initial reaction zone and a slight increase in the reduction rate with increasing time,and finally,the isothermal reduction process of HCVTM was divided into several limiting stages with varying degrees,with inconsistent limiting factors for the reaction rate at different stages.The results also show that the activation energy decreases slightly at larger degrees of reduction.Also,the apparent rate constant k(T)increased with increasing reduction temperature,with lnk(T)showing a good linear relationship with temperature.

Controlled peptide assembly offers significant promise to develop synthetic supramolecular nanostructures to display material and biological properties that mimic protein assemblies in nature.Despite the progress in forming peptide nanostructures of various morphology,there exists a distinct gap between natural and synthetic assembly systems in terms of size control.Constructing nanostructures with a narrow size distribution that can be tuned over a wide range of length-scales is essential for applications that require precise spacing between objects.This approach provides the opportunity to correlate materials and biological properties of interest with assembly size.In this review,we discuss representative endeavors over the past two decades for design of size-controllable peptide nanostructures using tunable building blocks.Other mechanisms for size control,e.g.,molecular frustration,template-directed peptide assembly,and multi-component peptide co-assembly,will also be discussed.We also demonstrate the applicable scopes of these strategies and suggest potential future avenues for scientific advances in this field.
