AIM： To determine whether different intravitreal doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin lead to electroretinographic or histological changes in the rabbit retina over one month period after injection. METHODS： Eighteen new Zealand white rabbits were divided into three treatment groups （groups 1 to 3） and different intravitreal doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin were tested in each group. The right eye was injected with the drug and the left eye received intravitreal injection of 5% dextrose water and served as control eye. The doses delivered to each group were 0.1 mg/0.1 mL, 1 mg/0.1 mL and 10 mg/0.1 mL. Simultaneous, bilateral, dark-adapted electroretinography and clinical images of both eyes were obtained in.all groups before injection （baseline） and after 7, 14, 21 and 28d, followed by enucleation for histological examination. RESULTS： Subjects in the group 1 showed no signs of toxicity in the electroretinogram when compared with groups 2 and 3 （Kruskall-Wallis test, P=0.000）. By day 7, no electrical response to light stimuli was recorded in the treated eyes in groups 2 and 3, consistent with severe damage due to retinal toxicity. Light microscopy revealedno significant histopathological changes in the group 1, while rabbits in groups 2 and 3 had signs of granulomatous inflammation in most cases. COnCLUSIOn： Intravitreal 0.1 mg/0.1 mL doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin do not lead to electroretinographic or histological signs of retinal toxicity compared with 1 mg/0.1 mL and 10 mg/O.1 mL in this rabbit model.

Introduction: The severity of Sars-Cov-2 infection is associated with the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The progression to ARDS appears to be driven by a major inflammatory mechanism potentially sensitive to corticosteroids. Observation: This article describes the case of an elderly patient was admitted to emergency departments for intense asthen.a, accompanied by motor diarrhoea, dyspnoea with desaturation in.ambient air, in.a context of strong suspicion of infection linked to COVID-19. The article also reviews the existing literature on the diagnosis and treatment of this severe form of the disease. Conclusion: Corticosteroids, and in particular dexamethasone, have been shown to be effective in the management of patients with COVID-19, an oxygen-releasing disease.

Testicular cancer seminoma is one of the most common types of cancer among men of reproductive *** with this condition usually present reduced semen quality,even before initiating cancer ***,the underlying mechanisms by which testicular cancer seminoma affects male fertility are largely *** aim of this study was to investigate alterations in the sperm proteome of men with seminoma undergoing sperm banking before starting cancer therapy,in comparison to healthy proven fertile men(control group).A routine semen.analysis was conducted before cryopreservation of the samples(n=15 per group).Men with seminoma showed a decrease in sperm motility(P=0.019),total motile count(P=0.001),concentration(P=0.003),and total sperm count(P=0.001).Quantitative proteomic analysis identified 393 differentially expressed proteins between the study *** proteins involved in spermatogenesis,sperm function,binding of sperm to the oocyte,and fertilization were selected for validation by western *** confirmed the underexpression of heat shock-related 70 kDa protein 2(P=0.041),ubiquinol-cytochrome C reductase core protein 2(P=0.026),and testis-specific sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase subunit alpha-4(P=0.016),as well as the overexpression of angiotensin I converting enzyme(P=0.005)in the seminoma *** altered expression levels of these proteins are associated with spermatogenesis dysfunction,reduced sperm kinematics and motility,failure in capacitation.and *** findings of this study may explain the decrease in the fertilizing ability of men with seminoma before starting cancer therapy.

Marine mammals undergo cycles of tissue ischemia and reperfusion during the dive *** injury can result in oxidative tissue damage and the activation of a pro-inflammatory immune *** risk of oxidative damage is reduced by *** hypothesis is that the reported higher antioxidant defenses within marine mammal tissues provide additional protection in situations that produce oxidative stress,like inflammation,in comparison to terrestrial mammal *** were isolated from the whole blood of Pacific bottlenose dolphins(Tursiops trun.atus gilli)and humans(Homo sapiens)and were exposed to lipopolysaccharides(LPS,10μg/mL)in vitro to simulate a pro-inflammatory *** stress indicators,including superoxide radical(O_(2)^(•−))production.activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase(GPx),glutathione reductase(GR),and glutathione S-transferase(GST),as well as oxidative protein damage,were quantified by *** 48 h under experimen.al conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes produced 1.9 times more O_(2)^(•−)but displayed 2.0 times lower protein carbonyl concentrations compared to human *** 48 h under experimen.al conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes displayed 7.9,2.0,11.1,and 3.3 times more activities of CAT,GPx,GR,and GST,respectively,compared to human *** results suggest that,under cell culture conditions,the antioxidant defenses in bottlenose dolphin leukocytes provide additional protection.against pro-inflammatory challenges in comparison to human leukocytes,likely as an.adaptive advan.age.

We review the case of a 74-year-old patient with ad-vanced colon cancer who suffered recurrent bouts of hypoglycemia. A state of inappropriate, non-suppressed hyperinsulinism in the presence of severe hypoglycemia was diagnosed. We finally discuss the known mecha-nisms behind fasting hypoglycemia in patients with ad-vanced cancer, the diagnosis, and possible treatments of this rare paraneoplastic endocrine complication.

This study investigated the neural mechanisms located in the prefron.al cortex(PFC)involved in main.aining addictive-like eating ***,we aimed toll a gap in the existing literature and help clarify the food addiction(FA)cycle by inspecting the relationship between the executive control and psychopathology involved in the FA ***-three students recruited from the University of Macao participated in this *** investigated a hemodynamic response captured by nIRS recordings,activated during n-back,set-shifting,and go/nogo ***,we investigated the FA symptoms through the YFAS clinical inventory to better understand the relationship between hemodynamic response and clinical symptomatology in college ***,the hemodynamicndings conrm that altered cognitive control in executive function performance appears to be linked to addictive-like eating behaviors,which in turn conrms a circuit similarity between FA and the substance abuse population(SUD)as reported in previous fMRI ***,the psychologicalndings conrm the signicant association between the working memory decits and symptoms severity which suggest the role of self-control and regulation in limiting the storage resources as a potential trigger to develop overconsumption episodes in the FA *** highlight how disrupted self-control and regulation of craving and negative a®ect induced by men.al imagery might shape and overload the working memory storage as a potential trigger to develop binge eating episodes to main.ain the FA *** conclusion,the use of fnIRS in the context of eating disorders studies represents a valuable application,nonin.asive,and patientfriendly tool,providing new insights into understanding the addiction cycle and treatment guidelines.

Radioactive contents and background doses from northern.alluvial sediment plains between rivers Ravi and Chenab,Pakistan

Radiometric analysis of soil samples, collected from northern.alluvial sediment plains between rivers Ravi and Chenab, has been carried out. Activity concentrations of^(226) Ra,^(232)Th,^(40) K and the artificial radionuclide^(137) Cs were estimated by using high-purity germanium detector. Subsequent values of activity concentrations were used to find terrestrial absorbed dose rate and ann.al effective doses received by resident of area. The mean radioactivity levels of^(226) Ra,^(232)Th,^(40) K and^(137)Cs were found to be 45.0 ± 1.3,59.6 ± 2.8, 613.8 ± 20.0 and 4.0 ± 0.2 Bq kg^(-1), respectively. Terrestrial absorbed dose rate and ann.al effective dose received by public were found to be 85.1 n Gy h^(-1)and0.5 m Sv, respectively. The activity concentrations of^(226) Ra,^(232)Th,^(40) K and^(137)Cs and resulting doses obtained for the current study were compared with data available in the literature and with international stan.ards.

nitrous oxide gas removal by using compost-based biofilter medium

This paper is aimed at introducing our research result in the efficiencyin removing nitrous oxide gas (n_2O) by using compost as a medium filter,which is actually a kind of manure derived from cow faeces at KukusanKelurahan farm con.aing wood chips and some other microorganisms. Practicallyspeaking, n_2O is a major greenhouse gas, whose continuous presence in theatmosphere is expected to last over a 100 years and produce its radiative warmingeffect just next to CO_2. In spite of its rather small concentration in the atmosphere,it is the number Four largest greenhouse gas contributor to the overallglobal warming, behind carbon dioxide, methane and water vapour. Thebiofiltration experiments we have conducted to explore its removing rate of n_2Ofrom flue gas help us to find various operating factors in the biofilter system. Sofar as we know, n_2O gas has been fed from the top of the column. It was flowingthrough the column when it is made to get circulated with a peristaltic pumpfor 6 hours. The data obtained in our paper prove to be in conformity with theLangmuir adsorption model. The highest n_2O gas removing efficiency can bemade to be as high as 70.22% at the highest biofilter length of 50 cm with thegas flowing rate of 200 mL/min. The results of this research have finally beenmodeled by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm formula with its K value obtainedbeing 16.949 L/mol.

A Cross-Sectional Study on.assessment of Oxidative Stress in Coronary Heart Disease Patients in Bangladesh

Oxidative stress is considered a central factor in endothelial dysfunction.and plaque formation in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients. In this cross-?sectional study, the stress-induced protein.and lipid oxidation.and production of signaling molecule, nitric oxide has been investigated in CHD patients in Bangladesh. A total of 140 participants were enrolled of which 70 were CHD patients, and the remaining 70 were control subjects having no cardiovascular disease. The diagnosis of CHD was made by expert physicians through characteristic electrocardiogram and troponin changes. The protein carbonyls and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels in plasma of both groups were measured by spectrophotometric methods. The plasma nitric oxide levels were measured by reaction with Griess reagent. Statistical non-parametric tests and t-tests were used to analyze the results between the CHD patients and controls. In the patients, the mean protein carbonyls and TBARS, two important markers of oxidative stress, were 2.87 ± 0.97 nmol/mg and 6.92 ± 3.56 nmol/mL, respectively, which were significantly higher than in the control subjects, 1.71 ± 0.82 nmol/mg and 3.15 ± 1.42 nmol/mL, respectively. Assessment of the cardiovascular signaling molecule nitric oxide showed significantly lower value in the CHD patients (6.29 ± 4.78 μM) compared to the controls (10.75 ± 6.03 μM). There was a significant negative correlation between plasma TBARS and total plasma protein, and a weak negative correlation between TBARS and nitric oxide levels in the CHD patients. Evaluation of the smoking habit strongly suggested that smoking was a risk factor for the development of CHD among the Bangladeshi population. These results provide an overview of oxidative?stress-mediated damages on proteins, lipids and effects on signaling molecule nitric oxide in CHD patients.
