UPLC-QTOF-MS Analysis of Extracts from the Leaves of <i>Pouteria caimito</i>(Sapotaceae) and Their Antioxidant Activity

This study describes the phytochemical profile and antioxidant activity of an extract from the leaves of Pouteria caimito (Sapotaceae). The extract in ethanol was obtained by maceration at room temperature and subjected to the liquid-liquid partition to obtain fractions in hexane and ethyl acetate. Steroids, triterpenes, saponins, alkaloids and flavonoids were identified by the phytochemical prospection of extracts and fractions from the leaves. The analysis of the ethyl acetate fraction by UPLC-QTOF-MS allowed us to identify eight triterpenes, namely, euscaphic acid (1), hyptadienic acid (2), betulinic acid (3), oleanolic acid (4), ursolic acid (5), 3β-(O-p-coumaroyl)- alphitolic acid (6), 3β-(O-p-coumaroyl)-maslinic acid (7) and 3β-(O-p-coumaroyl)-2-hydroxy-urs-12-en-28-oic acid (8). The ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction presented total phenolic contents of 10.6 ± 0.1 and 11.4 ± 0.3 mg GAE g-1, respectively, and considerable antioxidant activity in the DPPH assay with EC50 values of 299.4 ± 1.5 and 391.8 ± 0.9 μg·ml-1, respectively.

Introduction: Epilepsy is a syndrome characterized by the presence of seizures that can affect the cognitive performance of the individual. Neuropsychology has studied the idiopathic epilepsies to understand if the behavioral and cognitive impairments are associated with electrical discharges in the brain, and not with an injury itself. Objective: To identify cognitive impairments of a child with epilepsy associated with diagnosis of learning disorder. Method: The sample consists of a child diagnosed with epilepsy, nine years old, from Maceió-AL. The methodology applied is a qualitative and descriptive study of a case report. Neuropsychological tests are applied for that purpose. Results: The results of the tests show cognitive deficits, impaired attention, memory and slowness of reasoning. Conclusion: Despite the results, it cannot be said in this case that epilepsy was the only factor that triggered the learning disorder, because the child had related comorbidities.

Background: HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) may appear in patients with viral and immunological response to treatment and remain unnoticed during the initial stage of the infection. The goal of this study is to evaluate the development and/or progression of HAND in patients with undetectable viral load for more than ten years. Methods: We included adult HIV-infected patients who were under antiretroviral treatment and had undetectable plasma viral load for more than ten years (blips were included). These patients had already been subjected to neurocognitive evaluation five years previously. Demographic, clinical and analytical data were analysed. For the neurocognitive evaluation, the WAIS-III subtests (digit symbol coding and symbol search), trail making test (TMT) A and B, Stroop test and categorical verbal fluency (animals) tests were used. SPSS??version 22.0 for Windows was used for statistical analysis. Results: In this re-evaluation, performed 4.76 (±1.82) years after the first one, 9 (36%) patients showed deficits in processing speed (WAIS-III and TMT A), 8 (32%) executive function (TMT B and Stroop) and 12 (48%) verbal fluency. There were significant statistical differences between the past and current executive function tests (p = 0.029 and p = 0.01), highlighting worsening of deficits. No differences were found for the other tests. No association was found between deficit progression and the studied variables. Conclusions: Although not generally noticed on regular appointments, in this small population, worsening of executive function deficits (mental flexibility and divided attention) was found. Classical risk factors for HAND did not appear to interfere in its progression. Speed of information processing and categorical verbal fluency remained stable.

The vaquejada race is a sport with animals which has the greatest socio-economic impact in Brazil and is responsible for generating an intense cultural and economic movement. However, this activity has been the subject of questions about well-being involving the environmental and mental comfort conditions offered to equine and cattle interactions. It is necessary to perform technical evaluations of the cattle involved on the basis of scientific study to better understand the processes of sport and, with this, promote their evolution on good welfare practices in the 21st century. Therefore, to test the hypothesis that the use of the official rules of the vaquejada where cattle use a protective harness on the tail protects the cattle’s tail from injuries in this region that compromise health. Before, during and after races, a study was developed that aimed to perform a general and radiological clinical evaluation in the proximal coccygeal region in cattle that ran in a modern cattle stall. Forty male bovines were evaluated (average: 2 year-old and 420 kg). Oxen were subjected to clinical and radiological examination before and after racing with official rules. Results of the clinical and radiological evaluations performed by veterinarians, did not observe clinical occurrences before and after the races in the 40 cattle evaluated. The increase in heart and respiratory rates was a reflection of temporary management stressors, as the animals returned to the feeding/rumination/interaction pattern after running in the rest pen. The radiographic findings in the tail, represented by the reduction of the intervertebral space and areas of subcutaneous radiolucency, suggest technical artifacts derived from

Proteus综合征是一种极其罕见的先天性疾病．其特征是多种组织出现进行性非对称性过度生长。目前为止，该综合征病因尚不清楚。本文描述了一例Proteus综合征患者牙周组织的临床特点和影像学特点．以及其他口腔表现。该Proteus综合征患者是一个13岁巴西白人女孩。我们对患者进行了临床检查和全口的口内影像学分析．发现患者表现有骨骼畸形、巨人症、特征性面型以及包括颅骨、左手和下肢在内的多种组织非对称性过度生长。患者左脚跖面有脑回状结缔组织痣，双手关节活动度也有所下降。口内检查结果显示患者还表现有其他的口腔问题．包括局限于口腔左侧的恒牙釉质发育不全、广泛性牙龈增生、大量牙菌斑沉积和牙齿错位。未检出牙周袋和牙槽骨的破坏。总之．这例Proteus综合征患者的口腔表现包括：牙龈增生、牙齿错位以及单侧牙齿釉质发育不全。
