Heat treatment of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)has provided a wide variety of functional carbons coordinated with metal *** this study,two kinds of zinc-based MOF(ZMOF),C_(16)H_(10)O_(4)Zn(ZMOF1)and C_(8)H_(4)O_(4)Zn(ZMOF2),were ***1 and ZMOF2 were carbonized at 1000℃,forming CZMOF1 and CZMOF2,*** specific surface area(s_(BET))of CZMOF2 was~2700 m^(2)g^(−1),much higher than that of CZMOF1(~1300 m^(2)g^(−1)).A supercapacitor electrode based on CZMOF2 achieved specific capacitances of 360,278,and 221 F g^(−1)at 50,250,and 1000 mA g^(−1)in an aqueous electrolyte(H2sO_(4)),respectively,the highest values reported to date for ZMOF-derived electrodes under identical *** practical applicability of the CZMOF-based supercapacitor was verified in non-aqueous *** initial capacitance retention was 78%after 100000 charge/discharge cycles at 10 A g^(−1).Crucially,the high capacitance of CZMOF2 arises from pore generation during *** 1000℃,pore generation is dominated by the Zn/C ratio of ZMOFs,as carbon atoms reduce the zinc oxides formed during *** 1000℃,a high O/C ratio becomes essential for pore generation because the oxygen functional groups are *** findings will provide insightful information for other metal-based MOFderived multifunctional carbons.

A novel silica-supported resin with a cyclic monoamide of polymerized 4-acryloylmorpholine(silica-AM) was synthesized, and adsorptivity to metal ions of major fission products(FP) was examined in HNO3 and HCl solutions. silica-AM has a carbonyl oxygen atom outside of the 6-membered morpholine ring, and a cyclic structure that is different than other cyclic monoamide resins we have studied. These include polyvinylpolypyrrolidone(PVPP) and poly-N-vinyl-ε-caprolactam(VEC), both of which have coordinative carbonyl groups included in the ring. silica-AM was similar to a cyclic monoamide we have reported because it exhibited adsorption to Pd(Ⅱ) and Re(VⅡ) in HNO3 of a particularly low concentration range. silica-AM has an ether oxygen atom included in the ring as well. Considering the difference in the chemical structures of silica-AM and other cyclic monoamide resins, it was suggested that oxygen atoms in the carbonyl group and in ether may be main contributors to silica-AM's respective adsorptions to Pd(Ⅱ) and Re(VⅡ), and Mo(VI) and Zr(IV). Our results imply that the contribution of the two types of oxygen atoms to adsorption is more observable in an HCl system. The contribution of the ether oxygen atom to the adsorption of Pd(Ⅱ) was also suggested from our study on crystal prepared from 4-acetylmorpholine and palladium nitrate.

The brookite-phase TiO{in2} was prepared by a hydrothermal synthesis of titanium chloride solution. The thermolysis time and the pH value of the solution were controlled during the synthesis. X-ray diffraction experiments showed that TiO{in2} powders partially containing the brookite-phase were successfully obtained. A great amount of OH{su\t-} in the reaction solution was found to be important to obtain the brookite phase because the intermediate complex leading to the brookite phase consumes more OH{su\t-} than other phases like the rutile.

We present molecular dynamics simulation evidence for a freezing transition from liquid silicon to quasi-two-dimensional(quasi-2D)bilayer silicon in a slit *** new quasi-2D polymorph of silicon exhibits a bilayer hexagonal structure in which the covalent coordination number of every silicon atom is *** molecular dynamics simulations show that the stand-alone bilayer silicon(without the confinement)is still stable at 400 *** band-structure calculations suggest that the bilayer hexagonal silicon is a quasi-2D semimetal,similar to a graphene monolayer,but with an indirect zero band gap.

Pax6 and its Drosophila homolog Eyeless(Ey) play essential roles during eye ***/Pax6 contains two distinct DNA binding domains,a Paired domain(PD) and a Homeodomain(HD).While Ey/Pax6 PD is required for the expression of key regulators of retinal development,relatively little is known about the HD-dependent Ey *** this study,we used the UAs/GAL4 system to determine the functions of different Ey domains on cell growth and on retinal *** showed that Ey can promote cell growth,which requires the HD but not the *** contrast,the ability of Ey to activate Ato expression and induce ectopic eye formation requires the PD but not the ***,deletion of the HD enhanced Ey-dependent ectopic eye induction while overexpression of the HD only Ey forms antagonizes ectopic eye *** studies revealed a novel function of Ey HD on cell growth and a novel antagonistic effect of Ey HD on Ey PD-dependent eye *** further show the third helix of the Ey HD can directly interact with the RED subdomain in Ey PD and that deletion of the HD increased the binding of Ey PD to its *** results suggest that the direct interaction between the HD and the PD potentially mediates their antagonistic *** different Ey splicing forms are expressed in overlapping regions during normal development,we speculate that the expression ratios of the different Ey splice forms potentially contribute to the regulation of growth and differentiation of these tissues.

In this paper, we consider the following problem about the James constant： When does the equality J（X＊） = J（X） hold for a Banach space X ？ It is known that the James constant of a Banach space does not coincide with that of its dual space in general. In fact, we already have counterexamples of two-dimensional normed spaces that are equipped with either symmetric or absolute norms. However,we show that if the norm on a two-dimensional space X is both symmetric and absolute, then the equality J（X＊） = J（X） holds. This provides a global answer to the problem in the two-dimensional case.

Gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding was performed both in a microgravity environment and in a terrestrial environment,and the arc shapes in both environments were compared. A microgravity condition was obtained using the free fallsystem at the Japan Microgravity Center. The system can maintain a 10 s microgravity of less than 10-5 g. Awater-cooled Cu plate was used to simplify the arc phenomenon. The electric arc current was between 15 and 80 A,and the shielding and atmospheric gas was 99.9995% Ar and its flowing rate was 10 l/min. The polarity was a directcurrent electrode negative (DCEN). The arc gap was 3 mm and careful attention was also paid to the arc gap in boththe terrestrial and microgravity environments being the same. As a result, it was found that no effect of gravity onthe arc shape is observed under general welding conditions (over 60 A). When the electric arc current is lower than25 A, the arc shape is determined by the initial position of the arc root and is constant with time. Accordingly, itcan not be judged whether or not the arc shape is affected by gravity for this range. When the electric arc current isbetween 25 A and 60 A, it is estimated that the arc shape is not affected by gravity though it is occasionally affectedby other minor effects.
